It probably would be, but as time was limiting and it was only cut the day before it wasnt quite practical. Especially as my silage contractor is the one doing the baling with the rest of his men either driving combines or baling as well. It would save him time but not fused on the idea of raking stones into the sward. By the way the are massive 13ft swards lol!
Cheers - its 18acres with no poles, trees, rock or big stones - if only I owned it. Had it rented for one year only last year. Pity - real good ground.

Would it be worth it(price wise) to get a local silage contractor to rake the 10ft? rows of straw into 30ft rows?

Fair enough. The bales we got this year were full of stones and we got 5 kilos of stones out of the last one we opened!!!!

yea u see thats our thoughts - and goin through a straw chopper with cattle in the pens - just isnt worth thinkin about.

Never thought of that.....We spread straw by hand or by the loader and dont get problems like that thank god.
