  • OMG! I have been looking for this song but could never remember the name of the show, just the name of the boy. To this day the theme song pops into my head and I start to sing the chorus. Thank you Jenniferkate for posting this!!!!

  • Well you know my name is Simon, and the things I draw come true, Oh the pictures take me, take me over, Climb the ladder with you. Well you know my name is Simon, and the things I draw come true, Oh the pictures take me, take me over, Climb the ladder with you

  • love that moog!

  • This is a good back in the day show that brings a smile to my face...reminiscing on days of watching cartoons and the carefee life of a chid...ahhh what joy :)

  • Ah, does this bring back memories. First watched this during Captain Kangaroo, back in the day. Then again when it was a part of Pinwheel.

  • Anyone here age 33 +/- 1yr

  • @csp1977 40 here.

  • Wow. This is really going back to old school. I used to love this as a kid. Great memories and now this tune is stuck in my head again big time. lol!

  • I wonder if this is what influenced the Mike Meyers sketch on Saturday Night Live.

  • @NateSean Definitely did, this show was very popular in Canada.

  • @HerewegoPeter Haha. that is exactly my memory too. staying home sick from school and watching tv ontario.

  • I used to love this show! I wish the Swedish version was on Youtube too. :) The child who sang the song had an adorable little soprano voice.

  • @HerewegoPeter

Wow me too. And well said.

  • creepy

  • "I am Theodore Chalkdust and I really like to draw."

  • I always randomly end up singing this song :L

  • My fave show as a kid!

  • When I saw Mike Myers do the spoof I thought i was going insane because I knew the song already.. Now this makes sense..lol

  • Awww, I used to watch this too! I must have watched it on Captain Kangaroo here in the US. And years later I watched Mike Myers do a spoof of it on SNL.

  • This was my favorite Pinwheel cartoons, they just don’t make awesome shows like this for kids any more, give me the classics any day over the garbage they show now! I was in my (very) early teens when this came out but I still use to love watching it. Wow such awesome memories. Hey & just to let yall know I’m planning a Nickelodeon fan meet this fall, October 1-3, 2010. If you’re interested email me here & I’ll give you all the particulars & the link to the official fan meet website.

  • god i hadnt heard that theme tune since i was about 7 ...thats heavy i can still remember the words ..and you know my name is simon,,........etc

  • *sigh*

The days when my only concern was what we would be playing come recess

    I need this innocence back....

  • I watched this show when I was a kid especially because my first name is Simon.

  • That theme song was on my mind. I can never forget how these shows worked my imagination as a child.

  • No one at work remembered this show. I remembered the song he sang.

  • Perhaps the greatest show ever on TV when I was a kid!

  • @TomOwenM agree with you, I'm trying to find it in the market in UK to buy it for my son (and myself too :P)

  • Holy Crap I loved this show!!

  • this is how i thought it went: "now i know my name is Simon, and I'm only 32, gotta shake shake shake shake shakity shake, wtf is the matter with, fuck is the matter with, fuck is the matter with yooouuuuuu!". Seriously, that's what went through my brain as a kid.

  • Oh god I love this show. I use to watch it when I have PA days from school. It was around 11:00 or so and I still love it. Ah my childhood I miss all the good memories of my life!

  • a lovely trip down memory lane

  • Jennifer, I STILL love this show :)

Thank you for putting up here.

    Blessings

  • Wow, that's some generalisation. Your views are about 100 years out of date and no doubt believe we all sip tea, wear bowlers hats and have butlers. If we ever seemed sedate it's because, in comparison, a lot of Americans are the exact polar opposite and over the top with it.

  • I love that song! =)

  • This is so typically British. It's a song for a kid's show but there's this maudlin tone going through the entire thing. It's so sedate, like British people don't want their children getting TOO excited.

  • @TheLadyOphelia Wow, that's some generalisation and you're about 100 years out of date if you think all British people sip tea all day, have butlers and eat fish & chips. If we ever seemed sedate it's only because, in comparison, Americans tend to be the exact opposite and over the top with it.

  • Yes....such fond memories!

  • well you no my name is dylan and the things i do come true =D

  • One thing i noticed was when he left the house he left his door open. he he. i can't get that song out of my head.

  • hello my name is simon i like to do drugs

  • bloody hell i thought i imagined this,so i did watch it after all.fuck me where has time gone!!

  • holy fuck, I'm in full time-warp mode. I LOVE IT. It's better than DRUGS!

  • This was the best!!!

  • My name is Simon and I like to drawer.

  • At the end of the theme song Simon climbs a ladder that leans against a big brick wall and jumps over to the other side....this is where the land of chalk drawings is. If you didn't see it, you'd never know from this clip.

  • One thing that is weird is that the song has "i'll climb a ladder with you". thtas some fucked up shit that doesn't make sense

  • @KeeYaBitch

You are correct, two people should never be on a ladder at the same time. Good safety tip.

  • I've had this tune in my head for 30 years and have never been able to find it before this. Wow.

  • Same here!

  • I love this show..wow

  • I use to love to hear this song from "My name is Simon" from Captain Kangaroo.

  • I remember this show it was on CBC on Saturday mornings.

  • so snl and mike myers were parodying this?

  • yes, Simon liked to do Drawrrings!

  • Well, the theme song at least. This show has nothing to do with a kid in a bathtub.

  • Have been trying to find this for years.. could never remember his name but had the tune in my head. Bizarre.

  • Narrated by Donna's Grandfather!!

  • LOL, yes it is! :-)

  • I loved this :D The song used to give me nightmares but I have never forgotten it!

  • This, Cricket Magazine for kids and my bb gun was how I spent most of my childhood in Ohio... jeez this takes me back.

  • Oh Man!!!!!!

Tacking me WAY back with this one!

  • wow...brings back mems of a lonely childhood...the melody and lyrics quite haunting.

  • That song is ...so....memorizing

  • Absolutely

  • God Bless TVO for bringing my generation all these things!!

  • its odd that its not actually the person who did the voice for Simon who is singing, yet it still says "My name is simon" :0

  • I'm not so sure why that is odd. Not every voice actor can sing.

  • Yes but they could have at least got a boy to sing it because the person that is singing is a girl and Simon is a boy

  • one drop of water and he's dead

  • omgg I LOVED THISSSS

  • dear god the first second and my WHOLE childhood came back to me

    aaah nostalgia...

  • Awesome

  • This show brings back memories for me too. I used to watch it on TV Ontario.

  • Me too! On Access TV (Alberta).

  • @torontobear73 God Bless TVO!!!

  • @torontobear73 In US waws this a part of Pinwheel? I loved that show, (Emily cartoon), Belle & Sebastian, and no doubt Today's Special.

  • memories....

  • This cartoon is 33 years old.

  • I had completely forgotten about this program - but the moment that theme tune started, it all came flooding back! Nostalgia overload! :-)

  • Same here everyone. Does anyone remember tcc the childrens channel?

  • I remember this! This is a show that I used to watch years and years ago when I was four or five years old, besides Jeremy and Friends of the Forest.

  • Oh i just had a pleasent flashback, i also remember patington bear,

  • This is great! I loved this little cartoon's theme song...

  • I love it. I miss those long ago days of childhood.

  • Ahhh...childhood memories. I remember watching this. Times chnged. Cartoons nowadays ...uuukkk.

  • I loved this show too when I was a kid thanks for the memories.

  • Link me? c:

  • Has anyone seen the Mike Myers sketches on SNL? I remember seeing the original when I was about 4. Then ten years later the "Simon" SNL sketches came on. He sang a similar song, but for some reason he just sat in a bathtub and showed wierd drawings...

  • Yeah, I remember this as a kid on TV Ontario, after The Polka Dot Door... Mem o ries.

  • Does anyone know the cartoon with the lyrics "Its me Emily"? It came on after this show I think.. I can't remember. But I'm looking for that theme song.

  • I can understand why many of you found the opening theme song disturbing. That's why I hated the show as a kid.

I remember when I was 4 or 5, I tried to escape the kitchen with the tv playing those dreary notes with Simon stepping out into that dismal-looking town but didn't make it and threw-up all over the linoleum floor instead!

So now this show has a connotation to nauseasm. I was actually clutching my stomach when I watched the theme song just a few minutes ago!

  • I remeber weekday mornings watching Captain Kangaroo, this song was the best thing about the show. At least the only thing I can remember besides the ping pong balls falling on moose and Captain.

  • i'm named after this cartoon, as frightening as that is...

  • not frightening at all...i plan on doing the same! lol

simon's actually a pretty cool name, imo.

    gosh i loved/love this show.

    kinda nostalgic....

    :(

  • This is fantastic. i rememeber watching this the first time round and it was shown also on a late night programme on channel 4 with sarah cox and katie puckrik and somebody else.... think it was called the girly show???

  • My appologies not katie puckrik but sarah carwood and it was the girlie show.

  • That was 'Sam and his Magic Ball' (also on here, and Cosgrove Hall's of dangermouse fame, first animation on tv),which was from same era, 70's, they repeated it on the Girly Show, though i agree it had a similar feel to it as this cartoon.

  • And the video doesn't help either. 8) It all works together.

  • I agree with Mglosk. This song has a certain quality to it that penetrates ones soul. Even if you only heard it in the background one day as a kid it would forever be attached to you. I sure it has surfaced again being sung by those same 80's kids throughout their lives with different subjects and contexts. It is hard to discribe it any other way than the stuff of nightmares.

  • lawl my name is simon... really.. it is...

  • yea i was OBSESSED with this show as a little girl!!

  • Plus and Minus were funny as hell. My fav. themes from being a kid...Simon, Pinwheel opening, Today's Special, Voltron later on, and DEVLIN. Someone has to agree with me about Devlin, that show with like 12 episodes about the motorcycle brother and the mechanic brother, and the flat sister...lol

  • Good God!!! I've had that lodged in my head for 30 years, it reminds me of being off school sick cause it was the only time I got to watch it, Literally haven't seen or heard it in 30 years and its like yesterday. Thanks for putting it up.

  • I always wondered where I had seen this? Pinwheel/Nickelodeon! Wow... must have been at least 25 years ago!

  • While I like this show, the song has this strange creepy element to it. Kind of nightmarish, and a feeling of doom. I don't know why it's just weird.

  • did the same way to me 2 as a child. thats why i remember it so well. i was about 3yrs old when i watched it. this was off of "pinwheel" right?

  • Don't know what pinwheel is. I don't remember where I saw this when I was a kid. I just remember it. But the song is just really creepy. It's like a song you get in nightmares.

  • Pinwheel was on Nickelodeon in the early days of the channel. The channel used to be called The Pinwheel Channel. Pinwheel was a show that was kind of a rip off of Sesame St. and had some great cartoon segments like this. Just search YouTube for Pinwheel videos and you'll see the intro and ending to the show and other segments.

  • You are absolutely right. I know exactly the element of this song that you describe

  • I'm just curious why I got a thumbs down twice. I didn't bash it, really. It's just a bit creepy. I kind of like the horror aspect. 8)

  • yeah..it was shown on Pinwheel..I had forgotten about this until a while back I did a search for Pinwheel. Brings back memories of when I was little.

  • THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!!!!!! I had been so hoping I'd find some of Simon cartoons up here. I SOOOO miss the old Nickelodeon, like Pinwheel and such. I do NOT know why whomever holds this in their vault will not release it on DVD. This is an ENORMOUS fan base! They'd make money big time!!

  • Well you know my name is Simon and the things I draw come true All the pictures take me take me climbing over the garden wall with you Well you know my name is Simon and the things I draw come true all the pictures take me take me climbing over the garden wall with you. You never forget a cartoon theme song like that even after 20 + years it's still a classic song.
  • so many memories flooding back!! great show

  • WOW!!!! THis is awesome!!!!!! I remember it when I was a little kid.

  • The song was floating thru my head the other

day, and I sang it word for word after all

those years. Glad to see a clip up .. thanks !

  • Someone should remake classic cartoons like they do with movies, only good versions.

How about Simon working on his Computer and the land he creates there comes to life and he enters it and has adventures??

  • haha, I haven't seen this show in YEARS but I still get the song stuck in my head now and again... lol.

  • I've been searching for this for YEARS

  • I have the videos of these! Can't bear to part with them. Wonderful series.

Don't do kids programmes like they used to *reminisces*

  • Im 36 too, this tune has so stayed in my head!! Loving it! Thanks for posting for all the big kids out there lol.

  • i been loking and looking for this song also for many years it has also been stuck in my head to god i found it lol i remember watching this when i was 5 years old this is awesome thanks so much for putting it up im 36 now and its funny how we all remember it thank you

  • THANK YOU! I have had this song going through my head for four friggin' years. I didn't think ANYONE would have put it up.

  • This song stuck in my head too.

It ran on state TV in Sweden. Since it was dubbed into Swedish I (being just a kid) never realised it was a British series...!)

Apart from the song, I also remember that I enjoyed watching the Simon drawing.

  • ok........weird

  • Thanks for posting this Jenniferkate I used to watch this when I was little. Simon should definatley be on DVD.

  • Amazing to me how many are remarking that they remembered this song for 20+ years and yet none of their friends do. I have had the same experience. I remembered the melody my entire life yet nobody I know has ever heard the song. There's something very innocent and magical about it that stills almost gives me chills. How wonderful to hear it again. Thank you.

  • Thank you so much Jenniferkate I loved this show too when I was a kid thanks for the memories.

  • An Ice Cream truck tune...yea, i can see that. Its hard to believe there are folks

that don't remember Simon. All of us here

reliving our childhood through this. ;;;singing;;;; We'll you know my name is Simon & the things I draw come true" Thanks for the memories.

  • Oh my gosh! I had forgotten about this! I am going to cry. I LOVED this song!!! I'm 30 btw.

  • I'm 36 (37 next month) & I also still love this song. I find myself singng it even today.

    Great memories.

  • Yes same here!!

36 (going to be 37 in june) I have been singing this song ever since I first heard it!

The thing is I have asked so many people if they remember this cartoon and noone does.

People always tell me I am confusing cartoons..

But here it is.. I remembered it very well.

I am surprised this theme didn't become an ice cream truck tune or a music box favorite.

  • I still sing this too and I am now 42 years old. Love it!!

  • wish i could walk that smooth...

  • WOW... I have searched high and low for that theme song... It's one of those beautifully simplistic songs, that's just enveloped in innocence. That is a song that has never left my memory, and I'm 29 years old.

  • Me neither,I used to watch this on Romper Room and Pinwheel.

  • I completely relate! I'm 36, and that song has never, thankfully, left my head. It is wonderful.

  • love LOVE this show

  • Another fantastic show!!

  • It sort of sticks to you. Just like The Electric Co's cartoon clip: "As is". " 50 bucks and it's yours-- AZZZZZ IZZZZZ!"

  • Well you know my name is Simon

And I like to do drawings

I like to draw all day long

So come and do drawings with me

  • i love this theme tune

  • The tune theme is by Mike Batt, a great composer. This tv show I see it when I haved 4 ó 5 years old, there was in deepest zone of my memory. I see it in black and white television.

  • I too had a longstanding fascination with the theme.

It's a little bit scary the "the pictures take me, take me over" line. Like it's some kind of insanity.

  • The meaning behind that line is that "pictures" (drawing) helps him cope..

  • I STILL to this day hum the theme song.

    I LOVE SIMON.

I have been looking for the world for chalk drawing over many fences in my life!

  • i seriously almost cried when i heard this song again for the first time in what, 20+ years ?

  • the most enduring part of course is this theme song which is stained into our memories forever. (in a good way!) There is a new version of this show but the theme is not the same, sadly.

  • What was that

  • I know one lady who whistles this tune!

  • ME TO..I LOVED THIS SHOW AS WELL!

  • LOL i always thought it said 'let the light shine through' not 'climb the ladder with you' but i was like 5 so...

  • Thanks! Brings back great memories

  • I had forgotten this show until I did a search for Pinwheel...this brings back so many memories...thanks so much for adding this.

  • I lovvvved this show!!! Thanks!!!

  • DECO IVICA SE ZOVEM, KOGA CRTAM BUDE ZIV, TE ME SLIKE VODE, VODE...

  • Thank you for adding this! This was one of my favorites as a child! I would be sad when it would end. I used to really enjoy these! I added it to my favorites..
