  • When I read all the comments, it's hard to believe I'm related to this guy. Good luck on your tours Micheal!

  • This is probably my 2nd comment & this man makes his bass ring !! Geddy Lee meets Billy Sheehan meets tuck andress

  • telespalla bob!!! xD

  • This guy is simply the best in the "solo bass" area.

  • would like to see more than title + and red (time) line! and at least hear something!!

  • @fuerjo1 change to 240 p , that's the only one that works

  • What about he playing with a chapman stick?

  • buy his album, it's amazing.

  • Lol its awesome sounds like the guy that plays the piano in the old Charlie Brown cartoon ha ha

  • Amazing.

  • Utterly amazing. Wow.

  • Excuse me while I go pick my jaw up off the floor...

  • BTW I have a bass clinic video, with a few players featuring Victor Wooten. Is it you on one of those?

  • Outstanding. Growing up a guitarist, it was nice to see when bass players were really excepted as solo artists. Your playing, feel are top notch. You also have that sound that most bassists (or guitarists) just can't get. It is kind of like the old saying; "If I have to explain it to someone, they probably wouldn't get it anyway. GREAT!

  • WTF KIND MAGIC IS THIS?! 240?

  • nice man

  • So amazing he makes it look so easy cross between Geddy Lee & Billy Sheehan meets Michael Hedges tapping on bass

  • it's the hair...those aren't arms and hands playing that bass, the hair has got Mr. Manring under mind control.

  • 0:06 waiting....

    0:16 still waiting............

0:35 Okay! WHEN IS THIS GONNA SHOW UP!!! *looks at top comments* oooooooh!

  • If someone had played this on a piano, I'd be in awe music-wise, but not technique-wise. But that's not the case. Mr. Manring just layed down some amazing music, and he did it in the most unorthodox of ways. MAJOR respect! :D

  • Youtube can`t handle this in 360p.

  • @alabalaportocala29 you don't even want to know what happens in 1080...trust me... :| the hair is very powerful.

  • No audio

  • @sardanonimo You have to put it on 240p, then it'll work. Don't ask me why.

  • chuck norris plays like this with his beard... then he wakes up!

  • LOLWTF it doesn't work with 360p

thats the wierdest thing on youtube

  • Can't believe all that comes from one instrument. Amazing.

  • 51 people hit the wrong button.

  • Is it just me, or does this sound like Michael Hedges channeling Vince Guaraldi?

  • @ZMugg1 vey true

  • ???????

    no audio!!!!!

  • @imanolgrosso use 240p

  • i switchd 2 240p & saw it, it was gr8 but why doesnt it work with 360p

  • NO AUDIO wtf

  • Yeah!

  • Fuck, people are stupid. If you can't figure out how to make the video play you are either illiterate or not very observant.

  • @buckethead41

It could be worse, we could be absolute arseholes like yourself

  • well all i heard was .... <--- exactly

and i saw "Michael Manring A Morning Star" for 4:01.. great

  • I didn't know Hagred could play guitar that good.

  • @fetor41 he cant.. its a bass

  • @fetor41 I've seen like 500 comments like that about don ross. You are a failure.

  • Silenzio metafisico o metaforico? Silenzio...

  • I don't hear anything.

  • @CosmicFlatulence if u use 240p the video will work :D

  • this makes me wanna practice lol

  • sounds a bit like terry riley

  • Thank you!

  • wtf theres no sound, just a title for four minutes

  • I did not hear jack shit.

  • what a weird glitch get it to 240p to hear it

  • 240p only works

  • Great Song!

  • fuck this

  • i went deaf right before it started...

  • Such an intense song................Almost so good you cant even HEAR IT..

  • @brieflicker Get it down to 240p and it will.

  • Didn´t know Kenny G was such a great bass player!

  • I've a feeling that Manring and Newton Faulkner could write some good music together.

  • looks like youtube fucked up the sound in 360p version...

  • Such a BADASS!...his Tone is so Unique too!

  • ???

  • how about sound?

  • hahaha i can't hear....

  • @Savlo1 use 240p

  • use 240p and it'l work

  • No AUDIO, WTF?

  • @Maxwedge12000 use 240p

  • @infernape1jp Thanks, that worked.

  • It doesn't work anymore?

  • @timmerios use 240p

  • @infernape1jp Thank you sir

  • Wow! Amazing! Anyone has any idea of what tuning this is in??

  • Who ever did not like this, SHAME ON YOU! THIS IS AMAZING!!!!!

  • i absolutely am amazed and very impressed with his playing. definitely one of the best skill-wise. but i just don't find this very appealing. he's basically playing guitar. i prefer victor wooten because i just think his playing sounds more like a bass.

    great musician though.

    props

  • A bit secret of mana but thats no insult .beautiful and complex at the same time .

  • This is like hes doing the harp guitar Hedges did in Because its There yet its a very different song. The consistency and clarity are unbelievable.

  • i just have an orgasm.

  • I wish I'd never taught him how to do that :-(

  • wena!!

  • I bought the same bass only in 4 string and all black

  • This is not only an incredible and unique way of playing the bass, it is also very beautiful. As a bass player myself, I would be more than happy with 100th of Michael's ability!

  • WATCH OUT: Static electricity from his hair can create an electromagnetic pulse capable of shutting down the whole US power grid!!!

  • My word he is amazing. I wish I had one pinkies worth of his talent!

  • anyone know where to get the tabs for this?

  • Comment removed

  • Reminds me of the Peanuts music.

  • You can really tell him and Michael Hedges were friends.

  • Wow!

  • @xBROKENxxxDREAMSx

To me, it sounds a LOT like the late Michael Hedges, who was Manring's label-mate on Windham Hill Records.

  • Yeah! What YetiSomZ said!!!!!!!

  • мясо какое то, не стал бы я у себя в машине такое слушать =/

  • Это не для машины музыка :Р

  • жестите с комментом %)

  • this sounds like a 12 bar blues

  • its a 5 string bass ffs. count with me one two three four and five. and its a bass come on childrens spell it with me B A S S. good now youve been cultured somewhat with one of my online private lessons. thats 50$ thank you and goodnight.

  • maybe it sounds stupid, but a little respect man- that sounds so hard to play! haha XD

  • @hoovboy14 wasnt sying it to you man that gy is the shit

  • This dude is like an improved Stanley Clarke, smokin hot bass player.

  • If you don't think that's a bass, you're clearly not a musician...

  • злооой, ОЧЕНЬ злой дядя!

  • Just a 5 string picolo bass ?

  • That's a 10-string bass - a 5x2 bass.

  • look at the head stock only 5 nuts on the top so there for 5 sting bass der

  • @TheMiketomato Nah, I think that's a 5 string bass with piccolo strings and an alternate tuning.

  • @SuperEnigmation From talkbass forums: "A Morning Star is played on Michael's Zon Legacy Elite 10-string bass. The tuning is Aa Aa Ed Da Ge."

  • @TheMiketomato Whoa, a TEN string bass, let alone the double-stringed type? That's crazy. Michael Manring is crazy.

  • Sounds more right.

  • morning star? wtf

  • that's a bass??????????????????????????

  • @wizzard64598 So what's that if that's not a bass?

  • He looks so joyous when he does this. You can really tell this is his calling. This is what he loves.

  • Those two harmonic chords at 1:42 leading into the chorus are just beautiful.

  • why this bass sounds like that...?

  • He's playing a 10 string bass.

  • because the equalization of him must be a little particular....just in case his awesome bass has 5 strngs, and michael manring is simply excelent, that's all the reasons i think XD

  • Manring is the perfect balance between technique and feeling.

  • Simply amazing... and mesmerizing...

  • you couldn't be any more wrong, you clearly haven't listen to any of his other stuff.

  • This reminds me of progressive rock...acid rock...i dunno, there's something more to this song than the others I feel. I hate to label it with anything because it's certainly not exactly like what I did label it as...i would say more progressive than anything...at any rate. WOW!!!!

  • for me...this is the best piece of Mr. Manring. MORE!!

  • thereMs only a bass in this song? can't believe it

  • yes i know, it sounds like a banjo and a piano, and a bass at the same time.

  • AMAZEING!!!

  • the definition of a virtuoso is having a big nose...

  • @ciaputa hahaha fuck yea!!!!

  • @ciaputa that makes me one! hahah

  • @ciaputa Geddy Lee ;)

  • unreal , fantastic, just mesmerizingly awesome.

  • One of his best pieces imo.

  • My god! Such a pretty tone! 5 stars!

  • The "Kenny G" of bass...

  • Well, you can't deny that he looks like him here LOL. but not as a person.

  • please, don't insult manring

  • nothing like doing what you love.

  • He even sounds amazing when he's just tuning.

  • wow...when he's tapping it's almost got a banjo like quality.

  • Caught Michael Manring and Michael Hedges in a show once. Unforgettable.

  • for real? when?

  • that's one of the few virtuosos that i have seen who aren't boring

  • I gave you thumb up, even if I think it's in the definition of a virtuoso that he is not boring

  • i thought the definition of a virtuoso is unmatched technical skill on his instrument. many technical players just suck at composing and are only watchable for like 15 seconds after you understand that they are all about technique

  • naw, the definition of a virtuoso is incredible technical skill. but few of them are able to actually make stuff that doesnt stop being interesting after 1 minute, when the awe about their speed is gone.

  • Everything that played technically geniously is interesting.

  • check out grancesco fareri. he is very skilled but very boring

  • obviously haven't watched enough of his videos then

  • why not?

  • I was talking about "Grancesco Fareri" btw, michael Manring is a virtuoso

  • Listen to the original master Michael Hedges. This guy sounds exactly like him... only he plays bass. Michael played on an acoustic guitar and a harp guitar which has bass strings on it.

  • Manring actually used to both study and play regularly with Michael Hedges. He cites him as being one of his biggest musical influences and collaborators.

  • WOW Kenny G is now playing bass!

  • He sounds like August Rush

  • That´s the common answer done on technical musican performance... But no luck, in that case both are present : Emotion and technic.

As far as everything is relative as you say, next time please don´t loose your time posting.

  • I didn't know Robert Plant could play bass!

  • i hate fashion before 2000 lol

  • Genius

  • Lovely bright tone. What amp is he using?

  • GK 800RB

  • sounds like a copy of Michael Hedges but still fine!

  • In this vid he's playing a ten string bass. Not ten individual strings, but five courses of strings pairs. Each pair is a bass string and a guitar string tuned an octave apart.

  • Just one word: GENIUS

  • it almost sounds like a banjo

  • you're a fucking toon.

Only noobs and a shit for a musician could compare this to a BANJO??!

  • He's not comparing it to a banjo, he's saying that's what it sounds like.

By the way, heard of Bela Fleck?

  • GENIUS..NOTHING MORE
