Am I to understand that Fins are assumed to be members of a church unless they stipulate otherwise? And must renounce this membership so as not to be taxed? This is very, very wrong on so may levels.
There is no reason to assume anything about a person's religion. A person can only be a member when such a membership is openly affirmed. Then and only should anyone pay taxes for church support.

If religion was invented now no one in Finland would join. Most are members because god could exist they dont want to risk it, also they dont really care if they had couple of more euros. Rest are members for basically the same reason they just feel like they have to do a bit more to please god.

@heikkiorsila What I mean is that if you claim to be a Christian, then you should abide by the Word of God, which is the Bible, not what is popular to do in society.
