@schparky2000 you could either call it growl/ (from what iv heard) vibrato (and yes, eveyone does laugh when I try to explain that, before you ask), its a rare talent and a very hard thing to master, i think it's one of those things you either can or can't do, and sure as hell Kerry can. I hav done my fair share of it from time to time, but no where near as good as her. You can alway give it a go with the method snwbrdhb said, it took me a while to get it right.

its a vocal "growl". but i don't really know how to explain the technique used to get that sound.

It happens in the upper part of the throat.. normally sound should be coming from the "belly" but its stopped at the throat in this instance by closing the throat a bit but still forcing the air through. The best way to practice is a hard "h" sound on pitch...
