  • Hi Paul!

  • Sound great. The Shires has a bit of a cleaner, brighter sound without being "overblown" which is easy to do with small bore horns. I play a '57 2b and it's a problem I'm having. Looking into a larger horn though. Great job!

  • Makes me want to take up the drums.

  • I'd say the sound of the Williams when you play it is more compact in sound, more complex, but the Shires seems to slot a bit better, and the articulations are cleaner, more "legit" sounding, but both sound good; Williams is simply more interesting to my ears.

  • In the low register I prefere Williams

  • well you know, if you ever want to get rid of that williams...=]

  • The Williams i just...sounds better. And plus, it has that awesome water key. Williams wins.

  • i think the williams has a better tone quality and would be better for small bands or soloing, where the shires may be better for a concert, non jazz related piece.

  • i prefer the williams sound much more, its got that mellow vibe that suits your playing nicely

  • Nice sound both. I prefer Williams, specially relating to your way of playing which is milder and quite soft. Shires is more powerful but it needs more air to give you a better resonance. That's what I think.

    Keep up the bones!

  • Williams has a darker sound

  • Smoking !!!

    Judy / NEW YORK CITY

  • The Williams sounds a little fuzzier. Not in a bad way, but in a Carl Fontana kind of fuzzy way... lol

I think you should combo with the Williams and do big band with the shires, but realistically, you can achieve the sounds you need with both horns.

  • Sounds the same on both to me.. Fine!

  • The williams sounded richer than the shires.

  • how can you hear that on an mp3 ? i hear no difference...

  • Nice playing. I have the same conundrum. I love my Williams, blows freely, has a classic sound. Had my Shires made to match, 8 in bell, brass slide, Calicchio Williams leadpipe.

You sound good on both, Shires a bit brighter and clearer. Love the deeper sound of the Williams though. Would like to hear you play a high ballad on both.

I just sent my Williams off for a refinish, satin with lacquer. Looking forward to seeing how it sounds and looks.

  • Wow, your lines are very clean, congratulations. Are you doodle tonguing them ?

  • wow thank you so much for the kinds words. I am single tonguing using the syllable Dah

  • the williams sounds like a clevland sound, you know, that back in the day jazz, kinda like playing through cotton; the shire has a more loud, in your face jazz mode to it, i honestly like both...

  • Bottomline is it really does boil down to the trombonist. I don't know how but some sound much better on a small bore trombone. I personally like a bigger bore which is why I play a 52H now. BTW, don't take them videos I put up as me being fo'real.

  • I liked the warm sound of the Williams. However, the Shires seems more sturdy and able to take as much as you might want to push on it.

Nice playing. You move quite comfortably on the trombone.

  • maaan coool sound! i vote for williams, also I liked Your playing a lot! keep it up!

  • it's good work...

  • Both bones sounds swell to song "I love You"...I guess it will all depend on the song...williams is mellow and goes well with this song....7/1/09...

  • Sounds like you have a strong command of both horns. The Shires seems to cut well in the higher registers and the Williams has more of a mellow sound. Love the tune selection.

  • I like the Williams too.

  • The Williams has more presence, and you sound more comfortable on it.

  • nice
