  • @tyclip1 - so does ur name mean "tie clip" or "tai clip?" Ghostface has talent and I am sure you have no ability to rhyme at his level or go platinum. And if ur cat had, not only a thumb but also an index finger, it could hold ur taiclip 4 U. Stop hatin dude.

  • @tyclip1 just as im wondering if your being stereotypical fyi method man is highly intelligent

  • @tyclip1 @tyclip1 alot of ghostface fans found found out about this band because of ghost sampling outside of the box. i bought the original vinyl of this off ebay and and i enjoy it.you should really take a good look as to how a rap song is written composed engineered and mastered it takes alot of intelligence youre looking at the surface of the song and not the body of work.

  • That dude is going to have some knee problems dancing like that.

  • This song is incredible! People will still play this in the year 3000

  • Wow. This is what Ghostface Killa sampled in Cherchez la Ghost! NOW I GET IT! lol

  • the disco scene was kicking in around Los Angelese around this time , so diffrent what people saw in saturday night fever ?

  • Exitosa canciòn de los años 70`s de la mejor epoca la mùsica Disco, malodìa incluida en la pelicula de studio 54.

  • Such atmosphere created with this song. Cory Daye is a keeper. Check out "Pow Wow" and "Green Light". Us old people allready know this

  • This song put Tommy Mattola on the map and mind of Disco and New Yorkers. This was MUSIC!! Those of us who survived tainted marajuana from the DEA and woke in in all the wrong places in NYC will never forget this song.

  • Those were the days of wine and fine drugs. Somebody called THE DOCTOR just in time!!!

  • huh?

  • creativity at its best!!!!! originality that will never come this way again and the young people dont even want to learn from artists like cory daye, kid creole and coati mundi

  • this was a great song in los angeles in the 70s no finger poining up in the air..

  • Take three songs from the thirties and meld them together and you get the anthem of disco. Cory Daye was one of the few disco artists that made it worth while. Bless her and bless you for posting this.

  • I love this group. Its still one my favorite all time albums. I always feel good after hearing from Dr. Buzzard's Orginal Savannah Band.

  • I loved Kid creole and the coconuts..are those bellhops the best or what!!

  • Those two robots at :49 cranking back to back - I'm falling out of my CHAIR! Is there room for a third?

  • It's said the real Dr.Buzzard was a very well respected practionioner of Voodoo down in loiusiana, i beleive it's in some library books or u can google it Hondo

  • Whoa and wow!!!!!!!!!! Whoawow!

    -Stosa!

  • To fast,

  • Can someone tell me who is Dr. Buzzard?

  • He later became the lead singer in King Creole and the Coconuts.

  • I'm from San Francisco and originally in the Hayes Valley district from the early to mid 1970s I was a kid but I do remember hearing this song in 1976 or so. First time seeing this ever....they did a video? Anyway, I love this music.

  • What a beautiful, sexy woman. And that smile....makes me want to melt.

  • most of the band members went on to form Kid Creole & the Coconuts, just recognized a few of them in this clip.

  • I loved all the 40's style and remakes of the mid 70's. we had fun dressing up in 40's vintage clothes (mixing with new). Dancing and looking fine. Didn't have to spend lots of money to look good.

  • R.I.P. Granny. Cant hear this song without thinking of YOU !!!

  • Waz telln my kidz bout my hospital stay n 77,granny brought me a radio to listen up,Heard dis song all day every day !!! Luv it !!!

  • Back in the day when I knew they were going to perform this song on t.v., I wondered how they would handle the third verse. Thanks.

  • I think its funny that they sing about Tommy Mattola losing his lady in 1977 and then decades later he marries Maria Carey and loses his lady.

At least he didn't have to live in the back of his big gray cadillac.

  • But I'll bet he had to give her a few of them

  • que elegancia, que clase

  • Does anybody know, who are the two singing bellhops?

  • I was thinking the same thing about the two bellhops but then I realized that this song came out in 1976 which means whoever they were then, they are 32 years older. So given that maybe they were about 23 years old would make them 55 years old now. E Gads!

  • "They tell you a lie with a colgate smile, hey baby love you one second and hate you the next oh ain't it crazy baby?" Is this 1977 or is this about the Republicans in 2008: the McCainites and the zombie liars? Wonder why we didn't listen the first time they sang to us? "The sults and the saints, they're all the same For the misery, my friend Cherchez la Femme (Se si bonne!)" AMAZING SONG... THANK YOU! A CLASSIC!!!
  • The guitarist on the right, August Darnell, aka Kid Creole, probably understands this. After living in England for years, he returned to America...to campaign for Barack Obama.

  • yea I like the sped up version. Whats her ethnicity anyway? dont matter but jsut curious. She looks high yellow black

  • hahaha her mom is puertorican and her dad is from syrie. She looks puertorican i think.

  • shes cerian and puerto rican

  • I used to love this song as a Kid. We did not have MTV or video shows. This is the 1st time I ever sen them perform. Too bad they disbabded after one Album. I bought the whole CD 5 years ago. Thank you for posting

  • Who are the two singing bellhops?

  • Is this Live? It seems a bit faster than the other vid.

  • Great seeing you with Kid Creole and the Coconuts x years ago at Penn's Landing, Philly. Also thinking of your appearance on Paul Anka's special(which by the way, included a celebrity-studded version of "My Way"--not everything is on YouTube).

  • I've loved this group for years!

  • Brilliant :O)

  • Love it, take me back, only in New York -- only in New York..

  • I like this...and I also gotta give props to Ghostface, from the Wu-Tang clan, for using this tune in his song "cherchez La Ghost"...both songs are dope!!!

  • heh, i like the sped up version just as much!

  • esto es maravilloso, el 77 fue magnifico

  • The audio is distorted...it sounds like it's been sped up.

  • Oh, I see why now...this was copied from a VCR recording. The video transferred well, just not the audio. Thanks for posting! A rare gem!

  • hello, I have allways loved this great song and wish that they played music like this today. is the original long version of this song on the original album release?

  • August Darnell = Genius

The man was ahead of his time.

  • Wow, all this love for Daye, but none for August Darnell?? Don't mind him, he's only the composer and arranger of the song, lol

And he's still out here doing shows today

  • Actually, August co-wrote the tunes with Stony Browder who also did all the arrangements. So the props should go to Stony.

  • I stand corrected. Thanks for the information. I hope all this great music gets reissued someday. I'd like to get Geechie Dan's Beechwood 9 album

  • I am so pleased to find you. Interpretive lyric enhancement has had me hooked. A close friend gave me all your songs.I speak of Armando. I was saddened by his passing in 2003 But tearfully I came across an e-mail note from one of his kids for kind comments she found on the internet. I would like to find Billie. I want to talk less publically. I will provide you with my bona fides at your request. Please please please consider my request. With profound love and admiration, La Quinta SoCal.

  • note below to corydaye

  • 1 call. A random act of kindness. Hope you are well.

  • I went to New York's Mable Dean Bacon high school with her for all four years and considered her one of my best friends. She was always very funny and very smart. She lived in the Soundview area of the Bronx. And she told me that she was Syrian-American descent. (Sorry that I lost touch with her after high school, I'd like to know how she is).

  • Hi Redbotz, It's me Cory, what's your name?

  • It's Pat, your crazy red-headed friend. Some time after HS grad, we ran into each other on the subway platform. I remember there was screaming and jumping up and down involved! We promised to keep in touch - c'est la vie. I'd love to talk (and laugh if you're the same girl I remember). How do we get in touch?

Still crazy after all these years!

  • I read she was of Puerto Rican and Syrian decent.

But why should stuff like this matter? Lets just go on a "meritocracy" theme. ;-)

Lovely, exotic, inspiring and that voice of her's is just incredible!

  • Corey Days is black. Why do so many people have a hard time contributing great people with being black?

  • Actually her mother was PR and her dad was Syrian. She grew up in The Bronx.

  • Whatever it is, it's fine. ( and I love her voice)

  • What a sexy woman and voice !

  • Thanks for posting.

  • Another time, another place

  • Good, it´s so cool! It´s kind of a proto-Disco. The latin roots of Disco are pretty clear here.

  • another note, the clave of latin music is Nigerian origin. The rythmn is associated with the Yuroba people who also are the primary contributors to Santeria, Voodou and other similarly popular beliefs of the spanish, french and portugese speaking regions of the americas.

  • Who Cares.

  • Corey daye is African American. If by spanish do you mean dominican, panamaian, borique,if you don't happen to know, their also of African ancestry, they are the descendants of enslaved West African of spanish speaking america. Please people pick up a history book and learn about slavery in the americas. By the way the largest African population outside of Africa resides in Brazil est.African and with African ancestry pop. between 70-90 million people.

  • Uhh, i didnt need a orgin history here, all i i asked was if shes black or spanish. I still says she spanish, u dont know for sure....

  • RL789, a "Spanish" person is someone who's from Spain, and I seriously doubt she's European. Did you mean to say Hispanic or Latina?

  • what happened to this great group?

  • Was Corey Daye black white or spanish, or all. I never knew/

  • It's playing too fast. What happened/?

  • this band are amazing, geniuses, love this group, there's no one like them

  • all my years of hearing this song..I never knew this woman was my great aunt. I looove this song..I don't even know if she is still alive or anything about her.

  • her name is cory daye and according to amazon, she's from brooklyn and was born in '52 which makes her about 25 or 26 when this video was filmed. i also think she went to james monroe hs in fort green

  • James Monroe HS is in The Bronx.

  • right you are. thank oyu

  • yes tommy has had a rep for looooong time.

Does anyone how i can get a hold of Corey Day's song called "Green Light". I use to have the vinyl and of course lost it. Thanks for the vid. Awsome performance.!

  • Why was Tommy Matola referred to in this song? Who was he back when this was recorded. I heard the Ghostface rip-off first and I thought the words were original and making reference to Mariah Carrey leaving him, which was topical at the time. I almost passed out when I heard the original. Has Tommy Matola had a 30year history of publicly losing his girlfriends?

  • Tommy Motolla was their manager at the time.

  • The best ever............

  • These guys were the best blend of disco and 40s retro-swing. Only people doing this (at the time) and still the best! Whatever happened to Corey Day?

  • she lives in nyc. sure wish someone would get her back into the studio and record.I saw her in alantic city a few years back what a show shes the best, and looks great.Shes so pretty
