i'm trying to find michael amott's videos where he plays some of spiritual beggars stuff... i can't find them! FRUSTRATION! anybody happen to have them? these guys are gods.
cool how they are brothers in the same band but have drastically different styles Chris has the very technical lead style and Michael has the grittier blues shoot from the hip style
lol i´ve just realized that besides the fact that chris have long fingers, that he got his ring finger longer than the middle one, that remind sort of paul g.
@daniyalkhan21 He really is, i mean don't get me wrong mike is awesome, but in my opinion chris is just that bit better. His shreds are always clean live and spot on and he always plays the harder of the two harmonising parts and never fails to impress me live. He just doesn't get as much recognition as mike =/
@EmoGuitarSceneKidxP Slash is just meh in general, I don't like his style lol. I dont mean to compare guitarist but I prefer Chris or Michael by a long shot.
@SoCalDirtDragon ye the bass drum is triggered, but its still awesome drumming regardless, a trigger just changes the sound of the bass drum for recording, the hits are all still being played by the drummer
I'm not beeing rude and I'm not saying they have no talent (they do and a lot) but you must to consider the engine they have and also that anyone can play like that by having a teacher 1 and half, 2 years.
@cnnre2005 So? most music is playable within learning an instrument for a few year. Being an exceptional guitarist is not defined by what you can play, more so by your creative ability to write music.
but if you notice they are just going straight amp no computers like dragon force or any of that crap to clean there crappy playing and another thing the can solo with feeling wich takes alot
Hah you have NO idea what you are talking about. After playing for one and a half years you may THINK you are good enough to play this well but I guarantee you it will be sloppy and nowhere near this level.
Their bend vibratos are completely unmatched on the metal scene at the moment, that takes ALOT more than just a year and a half.. Getting your alternate picking to a level where not only can you play at this speed but consistantly and comfortably without even the slightest of fuckups
and are hitting each note just hard enough to get the tone you are looking for. Getting the level of cleanness chris pulls off here where there is zero unwanted string noise on any of the string changes or large position shifts takes years and years. Not to mention the knowledge of theory to choose just the right notes for each backing chord, that alone can take several years to get down, Chris went through music college y'know.
Sure having good equipment helps but a huge amount of the sound
comes from the individual player and their little quirks. If you had his amp and guitar you would still probably sound like shit, but he would still sound unmistakably like Chris with a $50 amp and guitar..
Chris got where he is by practicing around 10 hours a day for several years. It does not come easy, dont talk about things you dont understand :).
Hmm not necessarily, upgrading your gear can sometimes be a good incentive to practice more and may make you enjoy your playing even more thus you will improve faster, just dont expect (as the guy my comment was in response to claimed) it will make you go from zero to sounding like they do here as alot of it is from the fingers, the amp does make a difference too for sure.
Well for the least these guys use analog stuff and passive humbuckers so the way you play every note can shine through. Not like most of the people who drop 6th string 6 notes lower than the 5th, put active humbuckers and use a digital processor and the only thing they play is chug chug chug.
thats bringing in sexism into the picture - look at her v's male screamers as the same - IMHO angela doesn't cut it because its so un-dynamic - everything sounds the same and has done since wages of sin
i was just saying that shes good and im impressed that she can keep up with all the guys since guys naturally have deeper, rougher voices. personally i think randy blythe from lamb of god is way better
can anybody give me more insight on what he does at 0:44, the way he hits the strings with his pick before he picks the note, it's like a type of "wah" before the note - a similar was of expressing notes. A lot of guitarists with feel do that.
can someone explain how to achieve that noise sound good, when i do it, it sounds like a bad palm muted sweep before the note.
I dont know how to play it best, or the name of it. But all i know is that it is often used in blues playing (i noted that SRV used it a lot).
basically all you do is sweep a string or two (palm muted) before you actually hit the string which you want to play a note with...that's what Chris did in 0:44 second...
I really dig Johan's vocals, There's something about Angela Gossow...I liked her on every album so far but theres just something there I'm not sure about...
dude i totally agree 100% and i have agreed since wages of sin - angela is good and all but nobody will ever beat johan on AE's vocals - he was just so aggressive and dynamic - angela's work is just... all the same to me. i only listen to AE now because of chris and michael and i blank out angela's vox work
Hmm...come to think of it I do believe men are better at everything except making sandwiches and doing dishes. Maybe you're right. Regardless I like their older songs more.
the only time soul can be measured is when you're measuring your won soul. some people can feel soul from certain things and some people can't. some people can feel it, but to a different extent than other people. you can't measure somebody else's soul, you can only measure what you feel from it and they might feel more soul from their music than you do. power is the most important thing for a vocalist in a band like this anyways.

that's a "Rake".
To get at the string yo want to play, hit the ones up at the same time you muted the strings, using sweep picking tecnic.
It's useful when you want to do a bend because you have already muted the up strings.
