  • lol MONASALLIE!! I haven't seen you since that time you sang with Ray Townsend. So, you're a Michael Franks fan too? I'm Laura's brother. Remember you sang that night at the Hilton when my neice April sang. I used to be married to Monica Bowser. I know you remember her...she was the lead singer for Dillinger?

  • Oops... "The Daily English Show 1323"

  • This YouTube video made me think about this song and brought me here: The Daily English show 1322. I'll bet you'll find Sara intriguing.

  • Love MF's music. I'm gonna ask my fiance if I could eat eggplant and all the other ingredients off her body. Hopefully she won't mind and will let me.

  • Eggplant, mushrooms, scallions, and mayonnaise used in a song. Most impressive.

  • It's called gourmet dinner when Michael Franks does it!!!

  • smooth as silk

  • Standing O!

  • surely mr. franks is a fan of bob dorough, blossom dearie and perhaps lyricist fran landesman? his lyrics have that witty, quirky element that set them apart. nice.

  • @dubpoet

Not familiar with the other two, but I've seen Dorough a a couple of times, have one of his albums ( with Takas), and love his lyrics/attitude.

  • I stumbled onto Michael Franks back in 1975 while in the 84th Army Band in Stuttgart, Germany. It was the year of Kenny Rankin and MIchael Franks and both are awesome. I've followed Michael since then and he's tres el fabo.

  • Wow!!! I was introduced to Michael Franks while living in Nigeria!!! I must have listened to the album most days for almost 2 years, was crazy about it, Oh! and madly in love at the time...

  • Lucky you!!

  • I'm not a musician but it strikes me that the flute part in this is very challenging to play because it's solo, any error would really hang out, anyway whoever that is really nailed it. Really nice!!

  • This song brings back such nice memories...I was 18 years old and out of my head in love. My gave me the album "The Art of Tea" on Valentine's Day. My heart still stops when I see the album cover.... :)

  • Beautiful

  • wow!

  • Man. I started listening to Michael due to my Mom's obsession when I was just a little kid. I didn't appreciate his brilliant style until I got older, which I did, but Michael seems absolutely timeless.

  • michael tought music in calf i was told at berkly ?

  • I'm sure taught somewhere, everytime I bought a new album of his, it would force me to the dictionary, before Google) Giaconda, meant having to do with the Mona Lisa, now we all know

  • just perfect! blue pacific is a great album too guys and dont forget dagonfly summer timeless!!! love this guy

  • two marvelous choices!!!!!

  • wow...!

  • Met Michael twice.... He is AWESOME!

  • Yep-I bought ALL the albums-yes, you get STUCK on that music.

I repurchased the Live and Sleeping Gypsy albums on cd.

    He always amazed me!!

  • 30 years and I still think of this song when I see an Eggplant.

I have been listening to MF since I was 18, now 48. I played it for dates. If they didn't dig it, out they went :) The dude never studied music, he studied literature. In essence, he has put literature to music. Get the music and read the lyrics. His best work '77'78'79'80, but hey everything was the best those 4 years. Listen to Eggplant, Popsicle Toes, Mr. Blue, Be very careful, the music is narcotic and will hook you.

  • maan, me too ma man. M 48 n started to listen to him since 18.

Havent grown out of Antonio's song and Tiger in the Rain.see me on 'Lynn151haj'.

my wife didnt dig him but at least she didnt have popsicle toes either.

  • my dad too.. thats why i love him so much i guess..

  • Agreed- very enticing indeed. I especially love Eggplant and "Just Like Key Largo".

  • my dads got all of his albums

  • He's been blessed with ageless vocal abilities.

  • Thanks:)

  • I really really love the relaxed and uncomplicated way these guys play...it is refreshing to hear a flute with the pleasant voice of mr Franks and his guitar..just so cool.

    grtz

    Anne

Some tones are false like on 0:26...

  • Michael Franks is an acquired taste. I happen to love the guy's music. I was introduced to him with with "Passionfruit" LP. Unique voice...relaxing and mysterious all at the same time. Back in the day, before they started making Saturday morning cartoons for him, this guy's singing voice would have been PERFECT for the old GARFIELD specials.

  • An aquired taste is another way of saying "yeah I finally get it"

  • I don't have all of his CD's yet...but I'm working on it! He's right up there with Steely Dan, Joni Mitchell, and Gino Vannelli. The world needs more elegant jazz/rock like this.

  • I've got all his Cd's - he can't make a bad one!

  • I may be young but i have an outstanding love for Jazz music. Dont get me wrong though i like all types, its just that Jazz music, sung well, gives a very relaxing, intriging perception of life if you think about every word said. YOUR MY FAV.! LOVE YA MICHAEL!

  • I have been a fan since 1980 - and have been ever since. The way he blends his oh so sensual lyrics and melody is quite exceptional. The more you listen to Michaelthe more you realize how incredible his almost inate sense of timing and phrasing play out in his songs. Please visit us in Australia. Cath

  • Cath,

I hope he comes to Australia too. Have you heard his CD with Australian Band called Cross-Fire, which I think he did when he was here in the early 80's. I may be wrong about the date, but the music is brilliant. You can't get the CD locally, but you can buy it on Amazon. Michael

  • I am heavy fans for this man as a singer since my age 15. and now, after 20 years old, it still working on.

  • He's one of the most talented people I'll ever listen to. Nice post !

  • Hey Appleblossom2007, you cannot even imagine what a beautiful job you are doing, thank you very much! Please post "Nightmoves" too whenever you can. Michael, we love you!

  • CHECK OUT MICHAEL FRANKS "CINEMA" QUITE COOL...SEARCH UNDER Kingdom Hearts - Cinema

  • A Fan since 1983 and he's still incredible

  • I've listened to this song since it came out so long ago. Michael Franks can do no wrong! What a GREAT writer and performer he is! Thanks for posting this video of one of my favorites!!

  • Real nice version. My favorite Michael Franks album in Sleeping Gypsy, especially the song B'wanna - he No Home. Don't get no better!

  • great song, great vocal...love u michael

  • I enjoy this all acoustic performance, thanks for posting. Nice and fresh interpretation instead of the usual full rhythm back-up!

  • Wonderful music. I admit the cover design of that album attracted me too. LOL

  • I think his best album is passionfruit. Very good jazz singer. He really mellow me out.

  • I am rather baffled/sad that Michael has never had a concert in the UK. Why? Whats wrong with the UK? We appreciate good music too. Come over Michael.

  • thanks for posting this piece "appleB' it reminds of the days it hit Manila during the mid 70's! i can still recall how great this piece when joe sample & the crusaders backed him

  • I'm surprised he knows all those chords on the guitar! he needs the band though.

  • this is awesome.. please post titled baseball

  • Good to see the old bastard in action. I think his best album is 'Live with Crossfire'

  • Great song. This particular performance suffers from the lack of a rhythm section.

  • It's hard to say which MF is my favorite, however this one ranks waay up there. Thank you so much for posting it. I am listening to this and remembering where I was when I first heard it.
