I apologize for my dispariging remarks ,nasty of me. Violteau is one of the very best young guitarists anywhere ,he is a very talented and sensitive musician .His guitar sounds fine in his hands which are magical hands .His playing of the Brouwer is first rate..
Viloteau has beautiful hands for the guitar .He is a very good player but needs to get himself a proper ,beautiful sounding guitar mott an artificial sounding piece of junk like Smallman.
@poupee58 dont be so quick to judge lattice-braced guitars. Smallman may have designed/pioneered them, but by no means is he the best at building such guitars, even he admits so. He just shaves the soundboards too thin to get a big volume, whilst diminishing the "traditional" sound of the guitar. A lattice braced guitar with a normal thickness soundboard imbibes the best tonal qualities of both traditional and lattice guitars.
This guy was cool, after winning he played at a church in miami and my friend and I took him out to see Miami the next day and hung out all day, really funny guy. Also plays sweet blues electric guitar!!!
It's a good thing that there are many different types of music, because it would be a very boring existence otherwise, for both listeners and musicians.
this is really a heart-breaker song, very good interpretation, it seems he dedicated his life to this. it's really rare to find someone plays a music witch you have to be a pro' just to listen. probablly he did sign a contract withe the satan!

Great technique, not sure where the tunes are. Melodies to take home with me. Haunting guitar but does not make me smile and think of Romance or fine dining as other classical guitar does. My vote goes to Tarrega.

The pleasure of a fine dining experience with live classical guitar performing melodic repetoire seems to have eluded you. Perhaps you are socially challenged. But to stoop to name calling. Tsk,tsk, tsk. Consider the source. Happy with Tarrega, thank you sir.
This man didnt dedicate his entire life and soul to classical guitar, to provide background music for your meal at the olive garden. This man is a genius/artist. Your remarks are unfitting, crude, and common.
You dont understand art or culture, so keep your comments inside your trailerpark where they belong.
Wish you were able to hear melodies. This man is a artist, yes, but you on the other hand are a critic of melody. My prayers go to you, I hope you live in a foreclosed home where you belong.
You are horribly shallow and undeserving to listen to music at all. I'm horridly offended to hear someone call my music something as base and repugnant as "dining music".
You are horribly shallow and out of context. The issue is the abstact nature of the piece . Dining music is for the listener, not the composer or performer's enjoyment. Get over it.
Deep Sea Seamus, please let it all out, perhaps without the expletive, what a joy to listen to classical guitar(which Kenny G does not play) such as Tarrega, which I do play and love to play for listeners who are able to take the melodies home with them. Lighten up. We are in this for the genre, not ourselves.
I'm not sure if it was meant to sound that way, but to me the tone is awfully nail-y. He plays near the bridge almost the entire time. I do not generally care for that tone, but I think the piece is wonderful.
I think he intentionally plays this piece that way. It helps to give it a tense, anxious feel. I rather like it, personally. Matter of fact, about a month ago I saw him play this at my college in Grand Rapids. I sat about 20 feet from him while he played, and this piece in particular, gave me goosebumps.
how many of the past gfa winners use smallmans?

Flemencojames .You obviously did NOT know Segovia .He would have thrown smallman guitars in the garbage can .They sound like loud banjos.

Rito de los Orishas is one of Leo Brouwer's greatest master works!!! Extremely effective concert piece if interpreted well.
