  • Was that truck mixed ? Any Acid around there ? I have seen that in one year flat around Acid Vats. They mix that by hand ?

  • I still can't believe things like these are still happening today.

  • @howtohireacontractor Actually the standards are even lower now in Nova Scotia than when this was made. Too bad :(

  • @LOBSPERT It looks like it is short of Cement to me....

  • That's hard to imagine.

  • @howtohireacontractor Yes. Sterling Belliveau went on to become our provincial MLA, Fisheries Minister and Environment Minister if you can imagine. Voters are completely retarded in Nova Scotia and were taken to the cleaners by Belliveau and his gang of fraudsters.

  • @LOBSPERT It's hard to imagine, living in the 21st century and still having problems with contractors. I just finished writing a book to protect homeowners from these types of problems. I wonder when it's ever going to stop. If homeowners would take the time to educate themselves about consumer fraud, we live in a better world.

  • whos the camera guy? the gay guy from family guy? lol peter ssssstop playing with the holes in the wallssss geezzze

  • You also need independent building inspector that you pay for. The pay should include a bonus for every thing he finds wrong. Along with a penalty for every thing he misses Independent lab to cut core sample of concrete so you know if you are getting 5000 lb or 2000 lb concrete. Along with testing to make sure the soil is compacted right.

  • I wonder what kind of lawyer you had to rep. you alone? If you had your lawyer reword the standards the contractor would build to and a hefty penalty (3 times cost) to buy the house back, if he did not met those standards. Along with the contractor paying the cost of binding aberration on the contractor. Arbiter had to be rabbi from 500 miles away. You could also appeal the aberration to court (contractor pays court cost) if you did not like the decision of the arbiter.

  • Speak English

  • Not only do you have an inadequate slab underneath, but you also appear to have elements of styrofoam fill....which, once it gets to about 5-10 years old, decays & emits a gas which is attractive to termites. (Information i got directly from a termite contractor who is also a building inspector & has been in the game for 40 years).

People....if you build a house....100% SOLID CONCRETE SLAB with adequate footing is the only way to go...make sure you're there when it's poured. Sorry for you man!

  • Thanks for the confirmation.

  • From the look of things they did not follow plans and did not do the right job. I will try to show this to people I know but I dont think there will be any results.

On a side note I did not know the Canadian government was like that. You must have representatives that you can trust. I know the there are many branches or levels of government that you can turn to. Wish I could help... take care

  • I've been a Canadian fisheries and political activist here for 24 years and believe me there is absolutely nobody I've met that I trust in any level of gov't here. You think your gov't is corrupt I've just spent 24 years as... Airing our corruption on YouTube is Canadian justice. Thanks a million for your time :)

  • My brother observed the construction of his 5 cottages but the foundations were obstructed by the insulation. Holmes on Holmes is from Toronto and we live thousands of miles away here in Nova Scotia. Too bad nobody can help and my brother has lost so much and our governments are so rediculously cruel. Thanks for your help.

  • I am not a fan of that type of foundation process. Always go fo the proven type of work. There are film companies that work with problem construction. I have seen a company on HGTV and they are from Canada. Also Holmes on Homes comes from Canada. How may cottages were there built. How may were damaged by poor construction.

  • what type of foundation is that? is it like the foam blocks that you like stack up and you pour your concrete in it?

  • Yes it was. I think they did not vibrate the cement as it was used. The grade of product might have been poor also.

The inspector had to have been looking with his eyes closed. Again I am not a fan of this type of crawl space. Please let us know what happen.

  • Nothing. Building inspectors in Nova Scotia get paid more by wearing the blindfold that doing legal work with complete immunity from our institutionized official gov't corruption. Sorry. We are still corrupt here!!

  • We are not that sophisticated here in Canada and we have nobody to turn to. Thanks but the building inspectors have no accountability and we don't have anyone within our various levels of government that has any ethics or morals or someone else would rubber stamp such construction. Any lawyer would simply be bias for any level of gov't that pays more plus a gov't job and...

  • It will take a lot and depends on what your invesment was. My guess would be lift all the cottages and rip out that junk and start new or just fill all the crawl spaces with cement. Who was your on site forman. They should have checked as the construction was going on. Your last line of defence is your ouw 2 eyes should have been at every stage of the building process. Hope it works out and KEEP ME POSTED. if i'm ever up your way I will let you know so I can look at them. You up in Canada?

  • wise words lad, always checkout the work that your paying for , go to the job and look around and ask questions . if somrthing just looks wrong, or stikes you odd ask and check it out.

  • Not much I can do. You should contact the Attorney General's office first, then a fancy Boston Attorney and the local law enforcement. You should also record all and every conversation with all government officials that you deal with. Get copies of everything related to the inspection and insurance of the companies involved. Get credentials of the inspector. Contact National Association of Home Inspectors, archiect, engineer

  • Should the jack posts be cemented in a footing?

The beam should be pocketed. The jack post should be bolted to the beam. Should not use a temporary jack post. Buddy you need a good boston lawyer that deals with construction and real estate and you will get every dime back from the builder. hope he was insured... Was he the cheapest guy around? There are some great builders on the cape, when I was last up I saw some real nice homes... Good luck and post what happen to the problem.

  • Heaven or Hell is within our own heart or soul. Cheer up and watch out for those crosswalks:)

  • i may be unhappy living in dartmouth, but i'm a little less so when i think i could still be living on cape sable.
