  • It's difficult to take Bill's soldiers seriously; they're standing there looking all hard except for those silly top hats.

  • @criggs187 nah man i think the top hats r perfect simply for that era of tough guy if ya catch my drift lol

  • 2:05 - 2:14 unbelievable good acting

  • DDL saved this movie. Without him, it would be shit

  • Daniel Day-Lewis is such an amazing freaking actor. When you look at his eyes in this scene you can tell he actually became Bill Poole.

  • Daniel has such an epic mustache

  • Daniel Day's such a good actor, John Malkovich plays the extra behind him. 0:53

  • @labtechtech What in Heaven's name are you talking about? That's not John Malkovich, that's Gary Lewis

  • @labtechtech That's John Malkovich behind him or you just being metaphorical?

  • @labtechtech

That isn't John Malkovich behind him.

  • One of my favorite movies

  • I think all they ate in this movie was meat. Even if they weren't all killing each other in the streets, the meat would have eventually gotten them all. lol.

  • This movie was retarded.

  • @animalstudios This sort of observation really tells us more about you than about the movie, eh?

  • @animalstudios Ladies and gentleman, a true film critic! This was arguably the best performance (Daniel Day-Lewis) I've ever seen.

  • @logicalperson I totally agree with you, he had me convinced that he was really supposed to cry in this scene.

  • whenever i see that guy i just see him fight with brendon

  • I wonder who would win in a sitdown.. Bill the Butcher vs Al Swearengen?

  • priest valon died a nobel death, but now his dead rabbits are done and OUTLAWED!......let no one so much as speek their name again!...........haha,for real though, lewis is an acting legend in his own time....a powerfull performance.

  • Is that the guy off Step Brothers?

  • @Superfuzzzay Yep.

  • f'ing brilliant.

  • If one day I get to even be an extra in a film with Daniel Day-Lewis my life will be complete.

  • Dan Yell Lewis

  • @NormbrettaMod YEAH ASSHOLE lol =)

  • i was expecting to have a retort of " Your such a hunk!" at the end.

  • Top contender for scariest fucker ever.

  • Daniel IS A EFFING LEGEND

  • I'm paid to uphold the law, ya dingus!--Dr. Steve Brule.

  • I think John C. Reiley has been in more serious movies than comedies. He is reall good actor. he was good in The Thin Red Line

  • i cant take john c. reilly seriously

  • Daniel Day Lewis is one bad mother fucker !!!

  • 1:25 - 1:39 best quote ever !

"Here’s the thing. I don’t give a tuppenny fuck about your moral conundrum, you meat-headed shit-sack. That’s more or less the thing."

  • hey! thats the guy in step brother!!! he is a funny guy....

  • john c reily was a serius actor once lol

  • so he was crying sarcastically ?

  • lol from 1:15 to 1:18 I thought the clip was still loading but it was actually Daniel Day Lewis staring at the sack of shit very still. Lewis is by far the best living actor today

  • @davedirector7 I would love to see DDL togheter with Micheal shannon in a movie, that would be something with all that talent.

  • you know, daniel day lewis would make a great captain hook

  • Help yourself to some decent meat on the way out

  • im sorry but every time i see that one guy i always think of talledega nights and stepbrothers

  • DDL is a genius

  • day lewis is rite up there with de niro and pacino

  • @anytigerwood Beyond.

  • @anytigerwood Try Olivier, Hopkins and O'Toole.

  • all i can think of when i see john c reilly is "dad what are you doing, its shark week!"

  • HE WAS IN THERE WILL BE BLOOD!!

  • i dig that guy's mustache!

  • Thumbs up if ryan connoly sent you

  • Thumbs up for film riot!

  • the crying was to induce the policeman's sense of moral responsibility because he believed the rabbit was insignificant.

  • incredible scene, but a question. Is Bill actually crying or is he sarcastically crying for giving the order to kill Vallon? his quick transition confuses me haha

  • @eekman87 Hes sarcastically crying.

  • Man Daniel Day-Lewis is a good actor, wish he were in more movies. I love how he stares after Reilly says "I'm in no danger of damnation, Bill." Menacing.

  • my favorite part was when he said what in heavens name are you talking about

  • Are they having a squint-off???

  • Yawn

  • Don't go believing that 3 people disliked this video, that way lies damnation.

  • You see there my friends???...... That, is real acting.....

  • i'm a butcher too ya dangus

  • "....You meat-headed shit sack.."

Pure awesomeness. DDL is a fantastic actor.

  • SHAKE N BAKE!!

  • he's wearing an optimus prime police badge...

  • @cityofwhat hahahahhahah great observation lmao!

  • @cityofwhat to bad megatron dont need one!

  • Shit movie. DDL is the best actor in the world though.

  • @pacoiec What in heaven's name are you talking about?

You may have misgivings about this film, but don't go believing that. That way lies damnation.

  • Comment removed

  • I love that tiny change in his expression when he goes from fake crying to grinning. He should've got the oscar instead of Adrien Brody.

  • @HeFilmsTheClouds I agree with you, but DDL had already won before and I think everyone knew that there wr going to be many more opportunities for him (I mean, he won again 5 years later for there will be blood). Adrien Brody did a pretty good job anyways

  • HAHAHAHAHAAHa He Fucking facepalmed and everything. "What in heaven's name are you talking about?"

  • @christopher81818 Double facepalm

  • Help yourself to some decent meat on the way out

  • one person is a meat headed shit sack

  • Haha ok chilln out @sumumabitch

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHA JOHN C. REILY HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

  • Reilly is a good actor. He did awesome work in this movie.

But, why does he choose such crappy roles at other times?

I love the guy, but seriously. If I were him, I would take my job as an actor much more seriously.

  • I have seen this film about 20 times, I own it on dvd. I plan to get it on blu-ray someday as well. In this film alone, I look up to Bill the Butcher, maybe its his confidence and the way he carries himself throughout the entire film that I look up to him for. Yes I know hes the villain in the film, but no doubt a very good one. This scene shows you the true nature of Bill himself calm and collected as well as enraged. My other favorite scene is the speech he gives to Dicaprio

  • This is the guy who makes me want to pick up my things and run towards Hollywood. It's as if his talent rubs off on people too, DiCaprio has done some good work recently.

  • Hahahaa...Bill pretends to listen to him.turning his head when Reilly is going"no not uneasy Bill..no,I wouldnt say that."....and look how he goes from"the last "cry" to the line"is that undrstood?" He almost has the EXACT same facial expression..I mean how brilliant can an actor be?To bad the academy and everybody factored in his fame, how great he is here and his comeback to cinema by putting him in the leading category. He owns GONY but Its a big supporting role,I think.Robbed!

  • @Sumumabitch78 They didn't like his role being a racist

  • @lordvoldemort578 Maybe they didn´t...but it´s still a big supporting role and he was kinda robbed. U know who didn´t have a problem with him being a racist? S creen actors guild, hollywoods actors voted him best actor. So did most critics.But...slowly but surely the general opinion about Gangs was that it was a movie most people loved or hated, getting a worse rep as the oscars came closer.Dont forget Scorsese won a golden globe for best director only for Gangs to win 0 outta 10 at the oscars.

  • @Sumumabitch78 Gangs Should have definitely won At least 6 Oscars, I don't know though. Everybody says the Plot was predictable and very simple. It didn't get to deep, accept the scene when Bill was talking about civilization changing, and People are more quicker to talk things out rather than Battle out, Which annoyed him. When Mcginn Chooses to talk things out with Bill rather than Fight Bill Like Bill wanted. Bill stuck the axe through His back enraged. The people didn't side with MCGINN(con)

  • Daniel Day Lewis definitely deserved An Oscar. He Brought an Iconic character to life. Screen actors guild, Hollywood Probably as the oscars got closer didn't Like it Because the Plot was simple In their Opinions but I believe Bill goes pretty deep with His Opinions.

  • Bill the Butcher tee @ benshirtman.co.uk

  • I was expecting Bill to say, "Your a curly headed fuck!"

  • I'm convinced that Bill crying wasn't even in the script. DDL just decided to do it just to show how awesome he is at acting.

  • @Advent3546 your right there he told scorsese he had an idea for the scene that "might be a little crazy" scorsese said dont tell me just do it - and do it he did my good friend

  • @Advent3546 or he just ad-libbed his entire role in the movie

  • @Advent3546 I know you wrote that comment a long time ago but I thought I'd tell you in case you didn't know, it was indeed improvisation by Day-Lewis. He suggested to Scorcese before this scene that he had an idea and the director said just go ahead and do it, don't tell me what it is. Turns out it was this. My source is the director's commentary on this film, I just watched it :)

  • click like if you came here after watching this epic film last night!

  • @barneywhitehall you mean thumbs up?

  • Daniel Day Lewis and Heath Ledger my favourite actors :)

  • Transition from belittling to intimidating at 2:03-2:11 is so subtle but you can tell when it happens. Shit's nuts.

  • is it possibly to physically tell the difference between an english person an irish and a german?

  • @lvll138inrs umm very

  • @lvll138inrs

    Nope.

  • DDL was robbed - the fact that he didn't get the oscar destroyed what little faith I had in the Academy to rise oabove their petty interests and recognise true art and talent. They should all be shot - meat-heaed shit sacks.

  • Adrien Brody did a fine job in "The Pianist", but there is no way in Hell that Daniel Day-Lewis did not deserve the best actor Oscar for this performance!

  • God I love Daniel Day Lewis. He so good it's almost scary...

  • I almost died from laughter...

  • .....amazing....

  • Academy Award for Best Actor should go to this man. Always. Regardless of whether he was in a film that year or not.

  • any upcoming actors watch mr day-lewis and if you ever get half as good as him . you've made it

  • @specialfx34 Ah, never heard that word before. I stand corrected.

  • for an Irishman he does an absolutely superb NY accent. Really, try it. If you're from any place on the planet that's not NYC I challenge you to top this.

  • @shittyfagg

He's English, and has an English accent. But I agree with your point. He's awesome.

  • @HecklerBlog nah. Half Irish, half English, but his accent definitely leans towards Irish.

  • @shittyfagg

NO you are wrong. Its a posh English accent with a slight Irish lilt and a soft 't'. He doesn't have a brogue. In more recent interviews for NIne, he sounds much more english.

  • WOW!! What a butt-kicking actor! He's really one of the few best.

  • When I first watched this i thought he was foreal and then he got all serious. I looove DDL in this movie. His accent it perfect and he's so evil, I love it! I don't knoe why, but I think he's sexy in this movie. (;

  • That is my favorite scene in the movie, I really thought for a moment that he was crying over the rabbit. He's acting while acting an character that has to be tough and he pulls it over beautifully. I clapped after this scene that was REALLY, REALLY good.

  • the way he goes from crying to serious so quickly is kinda scary

  • @90mv Was he seriously crying? I thought he was just messing with the guy.

  • what a sicko face, i LOVE HIM !

  • instead of busted ect. or the term fella istead of guy ect. thats cause marty pays attention to detail in all his dialogue. when he got DDL to do this movie he hit a home run cause DDL is a stickler for authenticity , he actually used this accent the entire film( whether filming or not) so as not only to stay in character but to make it effortless. method acting if you know what that is.

  • Where does his accent originate from?

  • @lnmissgreen that accent (Bills) is basically and old school new york accent. probably a blend of anglo with a touch of dutch as you notice his words are very clipped and he drops is r's very typical of a quote hard new york accent. you will notice the natives speak different than the irish.DDL studied the lingo of the place and period down to the t. also if you saw the goodfellas they use some of the old school lingo and new york dialect you notice they always say you gunna get us "pinched"

  • @lnmissgreen Well, bill cutting was of english descent, along with most of the natives, so I imagine its just an americanized english accent. I really wouldn't be surprised if the natives in real life, spoke like southerners.

  • @bigc902 that might be a good way to put it americanized english .the old school new yorkers still use funny lingo that is left over from bygone days . but i wouldn't say they sounded like southerners who talk slow and drawl their words. though a new orlean accent sounds kinda like a nasaly new york doesn't even sound southern at all . so who knows you may be right.

  • I LOVE this guy.

  • this guy would make an awesome captain hook

  • I can't believe they gave Brody the Oscar over Daniel. Fucking ridiculous.

  • Bill the Butcher: Best Looney Tune Ever!!!

  • damn he can pull the accent goooood

  • boats and hoes

  • best part 44 - 55. What the heavens name are you talkin about. Bust up laughing every time

  • Epic moustache and epic top hats in the background

  • Watch McGloin's face when he's crying about the rabbit. Funny, funny shit.

  • @ThePsychoReturns I lmfao, I strongly recommend everyone do what ThePsychoReturns says. (He's right behind Bill the Butcher)

  • oh man, I'm a girl, but this makes me hella want a mustache.

  • Gonna kick all kinds of ass as Lincoln.

  • is it weird that i find him attractive in this movie?

he's so bloody convincing. this man deserves all the oscars in the world

  • In the other version he says "I don't give a fuck about your moral conflicts...

    ..you meatheaded shit sack."

  • This was all improv btw

  • @Mcike26 How do you know?

  • @Mcike26 Seriously?? :O

    That's awesome!

  • 0:41 Daniel Day Lewis entering "PISSED OFF" mode

  • RESPECT THE 'STACHE!!!

    Lol

  • Daniel Day-Lewis = Fucking Genius. Period.

  • What in heaven's name are you talking about?

  • I nominate him to be the next Joker.

  • great actor!

  • BEST ACTOR ALIVE.

  • @NathanXPablo john c. reilly. i agree.

  • @greatgooglymoogly12 bull shit.

  • Look at DDL's eyes @ 1:32-1:33. That man didn't act; he literally became Bill the Butcher.

  • Comment removed

  • @AgApE010 that's ddl man, he needs to play a boxer, he trains in boxing, needs to play a butcher, he becomes a butcher, needs to play paralyzed, he gets people to wheel him around set and feed him.

the man is a goddamn genius and a method acting legend.

  • @BayushiEisaku

    -

Wow. A freakin genius indeed. He's the Mozart of cinema.

  • Comment removed

  • @AgApE010 Thats metod acting my friend... did you know he began his lengthy, self-disciplined process by taking lessons as an apprentice butcher, and while filming, he was never out of character between takes including keeping his character's New York accent...

  • good ol' classic Steve Brule

  • may someone explain this scene to me?

  • @wilcox24 The protagonist just sent a dead rabbit to Bill the Butcher as a message of defiance. Now, Bill wants Happy Jack to find the perpetrator.

  • @CaptCM54 i meant: what "charge" is Happy Jack referring to when he says the charge does not sit "uneasy" with him?

  • @wilcox24 It means the charge of disturbing the way Bill runs things. Disruption of the status quo.
