Thanks! The Exorcist has been one of my favorite movies since I first saw it (I was 12, I think). IMHO, Max von Sydow's performance (from his facial expressions that show a passionate faith to the subtleties in his deliveries [ex.) the waivers in his voice when he first says, "It's the power of Christ that compels you"]) focuses the power in that scene into spiritual imagination...which scared audiences.
I like when directors let audiences scare themselves-that's creativity!
Holy shit the devil was the best part by far hahaha!

Nice - that was one one the most powerful moments from the film, with the excellent Max von Sydow. And the other guy..
plus
"Why you do this to me, Dimi? WHY?"
Just saw the movie (again) and the excellent send-up in "Teaching Mrs. Tingle"
I'd really like to know the beginning and ending music, I know I've heard it before (not the Tubular Bells theme from The Exorcist).
p.s. yo mama cooks socks in hell

Re the director, Friedkin is brilliant; he also directed The French Connection as you probably know.
