I was in the Royal Air Force stationed in the South of England shortly after the war. We airmen listened to Radio Luxemburg and waited all week for the top tunes of the day. The music was sent via Tannoy to each hut. Twelfth Street Rag was the music we waited all week for. It was top of the list for weeks and weeks.
I had the pleasure of being Pee Wee Hunts neighbor. He was a very nice man. I wish I could appreciate the music at that young of an age, but your priorities are different when you are 10 years old. I do enjoy it now and I have found out how many countless WWII Veterans his music touched in my travels.
wonderful, i did remember of my times of boy when i watched greats cartoons in tv and i did hear it! i remembered too 0:29 a snippet of a sound of a brazilian group,
i always wondered what version of this song is used in spongebob squarepants, well i love it any ways, its a great song, and believe me i'm 14 years old...
I just did a google search to see what was the #1 Billboard song on the day I was born in 1948 and this is it! Thanks so much for putting up this video. I have really enjoyed it.
I made a joke about washing Bake-Lite recordings in a dishwasher.
I would never put a record in a dish washing machine. It was a jest on how well they are fabricated; that they last forever. Most people don't stay around as long as these recordings.
I'm holding an Edison Cylinder record in my paw, now; had it for thirty years. Never heard it. I'm sure it will sound just as good as this recording, if spun through a properly serviceable device.
I didn't have enough room, Kinda like a 78 'Rotations Per Minute Record, to say how much I appreciate the ol' 78s! And wouldn't you know while this is playing, the dog is doing the Francis Barraud's "Nipper: His Masters
Voice. It's just like the famous photo, with the head tilt and the ears...
She's only five months old; I guess a Pit Bull terrier. She was given to me by neighbor who saved her from idiot crackheads; and she is biting me while this plays. Other songs, no bite. This one = Bite.
Now this is just classic. When those old BakeLite records broke like that, there weren't cracks that ran through? The ones from the '20s, were they for the mechanical metal styli or for electro-magnetic stylus pickup? Just questions for you and your fans. Smaller, Faster, Better, Longer. (I mean they last forever) Put 'em in the dishwasher, who cares! Sorry, label, we'll print out another. Keep listening, you will hear it; scratches, pits, pops, drifts, and static electric charge. =^.^=
LOL I had this one twice and both had the same fate. The second one fell apart in my hands while cleaning it. First one to ever give out on me while cleaning. I think it's a sign I should own only the MP3 of it. LOL Love this version though!
Heavens to Murgatroid (as SnagglePuss would say)!!! What a delightful version of one of my all time favorite ragtime tunes! Never fails to lift my spirits! MANY thanks for sharing this delightful "blast from the past" with us!!! :)
I love this song. Mom and Dad had the same old 78 record and we would listen to it over and over when I was a kid. They also use to play this song with their band, before I was born.
Wonderful - just wonderful. I was born in the year this recording was made, and I grew up listening to it on an old wind-up gramophone. Thanks speedy1964 for posting the full version.
I'd send you my 78 copy but I wore it out in 1948! Luckily it's been re-issued many times. And EVERYBODY who plays 12th Street Rag plays the Pee Wee Hunt version. "Doo-Wacka-Doo"!
it does not look like 1948 it looks like 1920s to me
