  • wat een vrouw, en stem.

  • I really like Renee singing opera and the songs of Richard Strauss but in my opinion like other opera singers she doesn't handle crossover well.

The original version of this in the movie "Carousel" is far superior.

  • I love her face at the end. She's like, "Yeah, I know, I beasted it. No big deal. ANother day, another fabulous performance."

  • She is the last word! ABSOLUTELY BREATHTAKING! I LOVE HER!!!!!!! Just beautiful!

    Barbara Todres/NYC

  • Sorry, I have the greatest respect for Renee's operatic work but this isn't the best rendition of this song by a long shot, just listen to the original in the film

  • Moments like this is when we admire the best of America.

  • this is truly beautiful!

  • i wacht this video at least once in a week! Beautiful!

  • I think she is the best soprano in this world

    absolutely beautiful voice and face:P

  • @rexpakyue I think she's an alto, but she is beautiful

  • @cosangel88 Not even close. She's only sung soprano roles. Lyric soprano, leaning towards spinto now that she's a bit older.

  • The entire performance is amazing, Renee Flemming is a true gem to the ear to listen singing a beautiful rendition. The Military Chorus is grand as well.

  • It sounds better at Anfield when the Kop sings it.

  • Very lovely. Too bad it includes a war machine back-up vocals.

  • WHAR ELAE IS THERE? Very few are touched by such beauty ...

  • Does anyone know where I could find this exact same score ???!!

  • simply fantastic. And singing at Obama's inauguration just makes me fall ever deeper in love with her voice.

  • the original is WAY better

  • June Anderson is much, much better than her..... sorry ........

  • Simply gorgeous!!!

  • she killed the song

  • this voice let stones getting weak

  • She really is gorgeous tho...

  • OK...everyone is allowed one huge major unforgettable mistake in their lives and this is it for M. Flemng...singing at Hussein Obama's inauguration...unforgivable!

  • @doobeedoo58 Go to Hell

  • @doobeedoo58 That's the best you got!

  • @tresia622 wth? was only stating the truth...sometimes the truth isn't pretty.

  • @doobeedoo58

Of course it is not such a smart choice to get involved with politics in the first place.

But also because of that flaky character, Obama.

She could have also been paid really well. You know how Obama is with other people's money. Maddof would be small fish.

  • Too schmalzy but then that's what these occasions ask for!

  • Amazing! Simply amazing!

  • there's just something about her style I could never get into (too broadway-ish? particularly when singing opera) but there's no denying the great voice, this was very good indeed especially considering the circumstances.

  • @ShawDAMAN

what circumstances do you mean? :)

  • @louisvuittonswicked Well singing outside in the winter at a big event at least. Shouldn't rattle a singer of this cachet, but it could.

  • Beautiful indeed. For those who liked the song look for the 1963 version by Gerry and the Pacemakers, a Liverlpool band managed by Brian Epstein in parallel to his activities with the Beatles

  • she is AMAZING!

  • Oscar Hammerstein II and Richard Rogers would have been honored to have their words and music performed so beautifully. Brings tears to my eyes.

  • liverpoollllllll fc

  • liverpollllllll fc

  • i typed in obama no dis mad weirdo singin walk on

  • Wow! Did she ever nail that--just as she always does. Bravissima!

  • Wow! What an operatic voice can bring to a song like this one.I have never heard a better rendition of this song.. Simply heavenly......

  • She kills me with this song everytime I hear it. Really just awesome.

  • So what's this got to do with CORNWALL??? NOTHING!!!!! puhh

  • I've heard many others over my many years -- but she's incredibly talented, and

    gets better with every performance -- I can't get enough !!! My heart is pounding;

my eyes teary, from the magnificence ~~~

  • I've heard many others over my many years -- but she's incredibly talented, and

gets better with every performance -- I can't get enough !!!

  • The tears are running down my cheeks.

  • the amazingness that is liverpool fc's anthem

    ynwa

  • She is just WONDERFUL my favorite soprano of all time.

  • I'M CRYING SO HARD RIGHT NOW =O Shout out to all my fellow military brats + opera fans of Renee Fleming ;)

  • @classicalgalNYC No Liverpool FC shoutout? ;)

  • I like it; i think ms. fleming has pipes!

  • Liverpool!!!!!!

  • i dont like opera singers that sing all the word of a song in full voice it sounds odd. no wonder sarah makes more money then her. shes the only one that can use both voices and sound good

  • @FreyaDiamond Are you sure Sarah makes more money? Renee is the most financially successful soprano (in real dollar terms) ever, with tons of sponsorships and six figure gigs. She's also not using "full voice," throughout the song, if you mean singing full out. But do you really mean "head voice" vs "chest voice"? If so, that's a real personal preference. People generally like one or the other. :)

  • @100fulallmusic have you heard renee's head or "normal" voice? she can barely sing without singing opera, enough said

  • @FreyaDiamond First, yes I have. Her head voice is her classical soprano voice. Her "normal" voice would be - as you use it - her chest voice, which is the voice used by most pop and broadway singers. And I've heard both. Her chest voice is excellent. She's recorded jazz and alternative CDs with primarily that voice. In fact, she's known as someone with many different "voices."

So, why the hostility? Don't get it. Did Renee run over your cat? Because your responses are a little OTT

  • @100fulallmusic lol your an idiot.

  • @100fulallmusic Sarah who? ;D

  • glory glory man utd

  • as a pretty fair non professional musician of 40 years i love it when a musical artist can take a song i don't even like an choke me up. outdoors, in the cold, she takes that last note and rings the overtones like she has a bell in her throat. i've come across singers from time to time that as soon as i hear them sing the first long tone i know they have something i don't have. they still have to learn musicianship and the other things about being a singer, but they have the gift.

  • i dont get it you say she needed hard work but ive been singing like her since i was lil.i thought peopel were born with talent? :o

  • totally serious- I was there at this concert in DC, and Renee Fleming singing this song has to be in the top 100 moments of my life.

  • enjoy her --you won't see another like her in your lifetime-- a beautiful instrument that is the standard for every soprano in the last 20 years - She took the torch from Miss Kiri and has done an incomparable job!!!

  • cant believe this is yankie .We made that song)."walk on democrates the bastrds are taking over again(".

  • nice voice n so fitting in front of the statue of Lincoln

  • going to see her live in Århus, Denmark on the 10th November :)

  • @dugistheking How was the concert?

  • @toobusywriting

Hi, it was amazing thank you. My first time at an opera like peformance in a orchistral hall. Simply amazing. How she can sing so well over the orchestra is beyond me. Beats any CD or video when you see it live. It was a tad expensive but well well WELL worth it. Highly recommended. Proud to say I have seen the number 1 female soprano LIVE at her absolute peak at 51 years old. Unforgettable. Favourite part was at the end. Live version of O mio babbino caro . Shivers throughout

  • there's just a one time effect?!?!? where's the second time? Am I stupid,... but now i don't like it anymore... =) sorry

  • its a shame that such a president is associated with such beauty and tradition as Liverpool FC.... the only one walking alone is obama....YNWA LFC!!!...but good rendition

  • @blkngld08 oh bite my ass.

  • Renee is very good! But I think Barbara Padilla's rendition of this song is even better. She did this at the inaugural ceremony for the mayor of Houston:

    watch?v=jUs3AoAl5_I

  • @zucchini2007 @zucchini2007 I did! She's very good but no better than Ms Fleming, with all respect. Of course there are always bad days for magnificent singers. Ms Padilla did have a bad day in Houston that time. But I like a lot in sacred repertoire!

  • @intermezzoboy2006 Why do you call yourself "intermezzo"? Are you a mezzotenor, mezzobaritone, or something?

Well, I heard Barbara in person about 1 month ago. And I would have to listen to Miss Fleming in person to compare them more accurately.

  • @zucchini2007 I agree, a lot more emotion on Mrs Padilla's version, although I think she sung it a bit too fast, I'd would love to see her singing this song a bit slower, so she can emphatize certain parts of the song a bit more... I just can't to see the climax on Mrs Flemming's performance of this song, plus sounds like she's affraid to get loud and enjoy the pianos more. Perhaps it was due to the weather conditions that day... go figure...

  • @chaconazo7 Have you even ever been to opera? You may like or dislike Renee, but saying that a soprano singing at the Met can't project is a bit ridiculous. Ever been to the Met? It's amazing how many opera "experts" there are here who probably haven't ever seen the inside of an opera house.

  • @jewelmarkess What makes you believe that I haven't? I live in NYC, and have a music background in singing. Don't embarrace yourself with your stupid comments.

  • @chaconazo7 So then, what have you seen and when?

  • @chaconazo7 Some of your past comments did make me believe it. If I was wrong, I apologize.

  • Comment removed

  • @chaconazo7 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAA! Are you in the business? Didn't you see the microphone in her hand? That's changes everything for a singer. May I mention singing in the outside, with thousands of people's noise there, and inclement weather!!! Go listen to her inside an Opera house. You'll be left trembling with her projection!

  • primus sucks

  • id tap that

  • One of R&H's best.

  • Renée é incrível mesmo. Parabéns!

  • Second best to the Kopites

  • @hegofinr Check out Barbara Padilla's performance of this same song. It will blow you away!

  • It can't be beaten. <3

  • Wonderful!

  • Her voice is as beautiful as her face -- the countenance of strength, grace and purity.

  • I wonder how many glasses she has, broken hitting those high notes?

  • Renee Fleming, God bliss you!

  • Comment removed

  • @amcycletrans um.. she sings a note. a chord is more than one note done at the same time. granted, i hear incredible overtones in that one note due to the great gift she was given, but it's a note. a great note, but a note. a wonderful choke me up note, but a note.

  • @jackhammer111 I stand corrected, now everyone, how about a rebel rousing applause for the Jackhammer!

  • She's AMAZING!!!

  • My oh my! She is good!

  • @chaconazo7 Like?

  • Renee is an opera genius, the way she sings and sounds is AMAZING. I hope she Thanks God Daily and Nightly for that voice...

  • Great,great,great Renée.

    BRAVA !!!!

  • Awesome!!!

  • Girlfriend can sing! What can I say? And can you imagine the pressure? She was singing for the whole nation at the biggest moment we've had in a 100 years! And she was fabulous! Effortlessly fabulous.

  • Obama the first half-caste biracial mixed-race president not black

  • Wow! Shows what an opera star can do with a microphone. This may supplant the Mahalia Jackson version of the most enduring hit from "Carousel" as my favorite!

  • Celtic FC in Scotland were the first to sing this classic.

  • @MajicTV no they wasnt it was Gerry and the Peacemakers

  • @theyardieman actully it was in a musical then Gerry sung it then Liverpool did then it spread to other clubs in the 60's

  • @MajicTV No they weren't. Little Celtic did copied from Liverpool though.

  • @KopOut Haha. Little Celtic, good one. At least we sign it better. I went and stood in the kop for two Champions League games last season and YNWA was no where near as good as a full Celtic Park singing it.

  • @MajicTV Post Istanbul anfield atmosphere affected badly but if you mean louder then thats understandable since Celtic Park holds more crowd.

  • @KopOut I went to the Lyon game then was at Celtic Park the next night with 35-40,000 for a Europa League game and it was still more passionate. Ive got a video of it on here. Btw the Europa League is F'n depressing.

  • Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II...gods

  • Brilliant job, that woman is amazing. Wow... I think I almost cried twice.

  • Who is this arrangment by? It's so wonderfully schmaltzy and gorgeous!

  • @celloguy It is too fast

  • @wheelnut059 Yes, it is too fast and too inelastic at the climax. In addition the arrangement and vocal 'stylings' are vulgar in the extreme.

  • @cousinjk ...You realize it was under 30 degrees out there that day? You try maintaining the necessary support to sing that any slower in that kind of weather.

  • @IfYourMomWereATaco Good point--Aretha gets a pass for the same reason. However I still think the arrangement is pretty tacky. Rodger's original (no repeat, mezzo key) is just perfect as it is. I love Rene Fleming in Mozart and Strauss; I just wish she (and other "classical" singers) would understand that these Rodgers' "anthems" for mezzo (i.e. "You'll Never Walk" and "Climb Every Mountain") should be sung like arias.

  • LIVERPOOL FC ***YNWA***

  • Walk on.. walk on.. with hope.. in your heart..

  • The song is directed at those service members and families who have lost their love one or friend in service to their country.

Not a tribute to our newest president!

  • @tfitzgerald5 I understand now, I made an error in my previous statement. god bless the men and women in the US, Canadian, and British armed forces.

  • had Callas been invited to sing here, she probaly would have chosen an incredibly difficult Verdi aria to sing...and everyone would have gone crazy even if they don't listen to opera.

    different artists

  • Fleming didn't choose this. She was asked to perform it.

  • the voice is gold, the singing itself is crap.

    100 percent unnecessary mannerisms.

    (and terrible orchestral arrangement)

listen to eileen farrell do the same song also with operatic voice.

  • My God, the voice is really a diamond... I´m down!

  • To carahatestrig. for your info and cultural edification, this song was originally written in English. Although your argument about romance languages being prettier, is quite valid. it really doesn't apply here.

  • oh my gosh, how did i miss this?

i saw it on tv , but how in the world did i miss this??

  • My God, it's just so beautiful. And how she makes it look effortless...

  • Where can I get a mp3 version of this ?

    It is tremendous !!!!!

  • Wow this song is so intense, and what a voice she have !! I love it !!!

  • She makes me weep.

  • Very beautiful voice. Not as emotionally moving or technically dazzling as Beverly Sills, but very very nice.

  • she has an incredible voice, but i feel like anything sung in english sounds worse...romance languages are so much prettier.

  • English is the original language in which the song was written (1945 Broadway musical "Carousel" by Rodgers & Hammerstein).

  • Powerful song, POWERFUL voice!!

    Thank you for posting this!

  • She is the best!!!!!!!

  • Fkin Amazing!

  • Renee Fleming is one of a kind.

  • Comment removed

  • @alloutiu Yes. One of a kind. But isn't everyone? I personally don't think this song should be sung by a soprano. A contralto gives it more meaning. Listen to this version and then tell me that Renee's is better.

American Contralto Claramae Turner ~ You'll Never Walk Alone (1956)

It also entirely the wrong setting. This song is mean't for poor people stuggling to fin meaning, not for the corridors of power and military might.

  • She's ridiculously amazing!!! like wtf, how does one get a voice as perfect as her?

  • Sir George Solti said of Fleming, "In my long life, I have met maybe two sopranos with this quality of singing, the other was Renata Tebaldi."

    Not bad eh?

  • @orangetree4 If you really want an answer to your question, a good place to start would be to read her book "The Inner Voice: The Making of a Singer." Not only is Ms. Fleming a brilliant singer, she's a VERY gifted writer.

  • @orangetree4 with years and years of practice and natural talent might have a little something to do with it!

  • @orangetree4 Read "The Inner Voice". She wrote about her training and how she developed her voice. But I agree, her voice is incredible.

  • @orangetree4 Lots and lots of practice

  • @orangetree4

    Born with it?

  • @ragingcluegoo Um, NO! IF you read or heard any interviews Renee has given, or read her book "The Inner Voice: The Making of a Singer," you will learn that, despite having both parents as Voice teachers and singing as an "amateur" since she could speak, she had TEN YEARS of formal training after she graduated High School and won the Met National Council audition. She made her professional debut at the Met three years AFTER that. Just an idea of how much WORK was required to develop this voice.

  • @linnyloo2

Cool linnyloo2, I greatly appreciate your enthusiasm for this information. Thank you very little.

  • @orangetree4 , you may want to read Ms.Fleming's book, "The Inner Voice." She explains there exactly how one get a good voice :-) It's a wonderful book, brilliantly written, and definitely a must read for any singer.

  • @orangetree4 PRACTICE! PRACTICE! PRACTICE! Renée has a beautiful natural voice but she also worked hard on her technique to get the instrument sounding young and fresh!

  • @fludu1 : totally agree. Who could imagine that a soprano at this age could sound just like a diva of the golden age in the past at her prime.

  • @orangetree4 HARD HARD HARD work :)

    LOOOOOVE Renée.... <3

  • Comment removed

  • i'd rather listen to aretha sing this one... not that this version is bad. technically or musically, it's pretty perfect in fact... but it lacks the soul that aretha can offer. This is USA president - safe. I want soul, not safe.

  • None Better!

  • You are 110% right.

  • Your right

  • This woman is simply amazing

  • She was inspired here. BRAVO!

  • Wow! What a voice... she really made me cry. Soooooooo beautiful!

  • Yeah, she made that decision entirely on her own before checking the weather forecast that morning.

  • Commosso!!!
