There are lots of easiers ways now since photoshop cs5. Just search for redefine edge + quick selection tool

right click on your tools, it gives you options of different tools to use, for me, if i right click the gradient tool i can choose a different tool wich is the paintbucket tool...

so it should be in Image/adjustments/and somewhere near the bottom should be it.

And you can get a 2-3 button mouse for a mac, you don't have to use that single click crap that comes with it.
