One of my favs! Was lucky enough to go to an OMD gig in Glasgow two years back and guess who was singing with them? Claudia looks better now than she did then!
This song really has touch of genius... Tragically and not at all understandebly, it never got even 10% of credit, it really deserved... :-(
Probably the explanation lies in the fact that the group was a kind of "one hit wonder"... "P.Machinery" was quite a good and different song but there is nothing else to remember.
However, "Duel" is an absolute gold from my point of view.
@pix042 the best german song in English was "Wind of Change " by the Scorpions ! don't forget "Modern Talking" "Sasha" "Berlin" "Sandra" Propaganda was a minor band comparing to those greatests !
i have the album, the instrumental on this if i remember was called "jewel" i also remeber it being used on tv to highlight all the hard hits of NFL games... thats what drew my attention to the track
Today this band is almost forgotten in germany! You won't hear this song on radio eveen on stations dealing particulary with music of this decade. Maybe it's because the Neue Deutsche Welle -movement (= nwe german wave) overshadows everything that was produced during the 80's in germany
What a timeless classic. Just love this song. It has to be said that the Forbes/McGee/Armstrong axis added immeasurably to their live sound in late 1985. What a pity that Frankie Goes to Hollywood got all of the development money from ZTT. Would have loved to see how far Propaganda would have gone with their sonic brilliance.
Classic track! I remember being really struck by this back in the day, and it's the Claudia track I've been wracking my brain trying to remember since I heard her with Paul Humphreys on their Onetwo album! She still sounds fantastic, and having bee lucky enough to hear Onetwo play this live last night I'd say she sounds even better now than she did then - which is no mean feat!

And I still love this song!!!

The best German song 9in English) back then was, in my view, 99 red balloons. a bit silly perhaps but nice. Nena, i think, sang it.

Pretty good for a German band, actually i think this is an 80's classic, the rest of the album wasn't nearly as good though.

Same as the perfectly recorded version. Not live.

Classic, one of the greatest songs from the new wave movement.
Easily as good as Japan's 'The Quiet Life, Boulevard Noir's 'Images of Concrete Toys' and Visage's 'Fade to Gray'.

Genius.

I think the BBC used to use this song during the World Rally coverage. May be wrong !
beachy1141 5 years ago
hello there, that's correct. the BBC did use the instrumental version for the RAC rally many years ago.
lookupparagliding 5 years ago
They seem to have done two remixes of this track: Jewel & Jewelled. I think it's the latter that the BBC used. They're all on iTunes.
