  • Lol at being a mini M3.

  • "That's only about a 10th of a second shorter than an M3".....

    you mean "longer"....

  • Ive waited a long time to say this... its not that i want this car....its that im actually waiting for it to get from germany so i can t

    ake it home :D!!!

  • m3 0-60 is nt 5 seconds. its about 4.5

  • Well done, Jeremy...

  • I've been driving them for at least ten years and I've never had one break down on me. The one I'm driving now has had no major maintenance for the last six years and it's twenty years old. BMW's are pretty solid dude.

  • I'd say that a used e46 M3 would be a better buy.

  • @thimble288

But you can only buy that used

  • @TheVtieg6 You get a gold star for the day.

  • @thimble288 no cause bmws break down like a bitch

  • It's a great car, but God help you if you ever want anyone to sit in the back seats!! That's why I bought the 3 series!! Don't listen to this idiot saying it is a better car if you want to actually have back seats!!!

  • what the hell $40,000 thats cheap here in aus its $82,000 driveaway insane ....

  • @1UP09 The currency between america and Australia is different, so it may seem that it cost more just by looking at the number, but it still cost the same.

  • @ibro314

Actually, the Australian dollar is worth ~7% more than the US dollar at the moment. So, it should actually be less here.

We are getting absolutely ripped off here in Australia.

  • Jeremy

  • Why isn't this guy on Top Gear USA?

  • @Agent92 Indeed, why isn't he? Great review and better done than what TG USA has come up with so far!

  • good review!

  • Good reviewer for being american

  • wat a great reviewer.

  • 1 coupe M is coming out soon, that will be the best 1 series.

  • excellent review and the car is just superb. It's a car for someone like me: I spend a lot of time on the highway, where I need the horsepower and torque to pass and it is set up a little soft (understeer) as to not provoke any mistakes from drivers like me who think that they are an undiscovered F-1 talent, but aren't.

  • Good review. Not sure about the BMWness part.

  • I sold My 997 Carrera 4S for a 135i. This car is amazing, fast comfortable and smooth! I chipped it (Dinan Stage 2)and I wouldn't be surprised if it's faster too! Don't get me wrong, the 4S is awesome. and every time I see one I tell myself why did i sell it! But with some 40K more in my pocket! I am pretty happy with my bimmer!

  • Amazing review!!

  • Anyone know where the road footage was shot? It looks like Palms to Pines just south of Palm Desert on 74.

  • Great!! review and a great car

  • i want him on the new us topgear!!! :D

  • i love the 1series right now im 17 and just got my first car as a gift from my dad. 2006 a4 2.0t. But im going to get a 135i during or after college. And for ^ yes i would buy the 1series. Everyone knows about 3series and m3 but 1 is like a sleeper, not many people see it anything else from the cheapest bmw. But for the enthusiasts we know what the 1 really is.

  • @suprakilzz26 OMFG dude im in the same exact position as u man! i can literally type everything in ur comment but change out the dad for mom and the car model!

  • @thelittleasianboy haha sweet what do u drive?

  • @suprakilzz26 2007 BMW 525xi

  • @thelittleasianboy shit man 5 series as a kid, thats quite the car to impress the ladies haha. 525, is that the one with the base engine?

  • @suprakilzz26 yeah i love driving that car but i wish i had a faster one at times but i guess im lucky to have this even tho its base

  • @thelittleasianboy yea no doubt, its still a great car.

  • I love this car

  • This a great sports car! trust me, you won't regret it

  • This car is so good. i love the style

  • i like the engine..i don't like the looks

  • Excellent video all you people are very nice.

  • Did this guy just say it's an M3 that fits in your pocket? I guess 0-60 makes a car then. If you can't afford an E90 M3, get an E46. I love the 335i, but the M3 is another monster.

  • @DaOneAndOnly3

135i > e46 m3 imo. The 135i pulls at any speed in any gear and feels smaller/more connected than the M3. The M3 needs to have the sport button pressed to really come alive, this doesn't. From purely a driving perspective, I'd take the 135i over the e46 m3 any day.

  • I just sold my Porsche Carrera 4S (997) 2006 for a BMw 135i and trust me! you should see the smile on my face everytime I drive my new Bimmer! not only i get a top engineered motor, smooth and refined. It has that fun factor that porsche can't touch! It's nimble, quiet,(much easier to live with than the Porsche) and it's shocking fast with a Dinan Chip! Porsche makes amazing car and they are reliable too, but this is to my opinion the best bang for your buck! I love this car! Great review!

  • Congratulations, you really make a good business. I also would make the same choice.

  • @IN2OIL atta boy ;) bmw is the ultimate driving machine

  • I love this car!

  • Good car, too expensive though. Rubbish review, no handling images, too much bla bla.

  • This vehicle is in my top 5 dream cars.

  • guys i need advice, im young and need to ask. should i get the 135i coupe or 135i convertible? i really don't know i want the convertible when i cruise and party(you know how it goes with the ladys lol) but want the coupe for when i race on high ways.

  • dont be such a tool.

  • get the coupe!!

  • convertible will be around 200 lb heavier, that means losing performance numbers. ( when u dont have the roof, they add beefier metals to the sides of the car to keep it rigid. ).

  • beautiful car, great review.

  • that boy is good

  • Bring a smile to my face everytime I drive mine. Awesome car!

  • This is the best american made review i have seen in a long time! Great job!!

  • If I were ever in the market for a luxury car, only two makes would cross my mind: BMW and Cadillac.

Between the CTS for Caddy and all the lovely rides out of the Bavarian Motor Works, I'd have my hands too full to even consider something like a Lexus or Lincoln.

  • Great review!

  • Ear to ear smile - that's what bimmer drivers always have.

  • yeah after paying 3grand worth of work.

  • The 135i engine has won international engine of the year award 2 years in a row, and it won best new engine when it came out in 08!! And as far a s a skyline vs a ZR1 goes, how much more does the ZR1 cost?? A good amount more

  • i got mines for about $36000 because it was on sale!! Thats a great deal for all this perfomance . . A 370z and the 135i are VERY similar in performance but guess what!! the BMW is way more classy since its a luxury car and it has 2 more seats which I will use for sure . . Don't get me wrong, I think the 370z, G37, evo ad STI are great cars, but I needa luxury car that can perform just as well as the competition.

  • Wrong. 200 pounds is a lot of weight for performance cars. The 135i drives more nible then the 335i, has been tested over and over again. It is a lot cheaper than the 335i (netherlands). My uncle drives the 135i Schnitzer (375bhp/565Nm torque). It is an amazing car, performance figures like fast Porsches/Ferrari's for 1/4 or less the price!! lol. Looks? They are great, ok some different then average, but that's ok!

  • NISSAN ?

Please. Specs are one thing DRIVING the car is another. This is where the Germans still excel. NO soulless Asian product can come close to a BMW or Porsche.

  • or VW :)

  • True...

VW still makes some great cars with are very well designed, however their quality control has been lacking.

  • My dad has a VW mk5 Golf variant 1.9 tdi 105bhp 5 gears... i love it man :)

  • drive it before you knock it. I have driven an M3 and it was great. I drove a 335i, it was ok but still felt more like a family car, which it is. The 370Z is a beast in its own respect. Its not controlled by 20 million computers like the M3 is, its more mechanical, a pure driver's car. Raw mechanical grip, imo, feels better than the M3...plus its much cheaper.

  • imo, they still havent beaten nissan....370Z....4.8secs to 60, 336hp V6 N/A with rev matching downshift capability, deeply backed by aftermarket companies, and still only costs just over 30 grand....if you are a true enthusiest looking for the most power for 40 grand, you either buy a base model Vette, a SS camaro, or a 370Z, no questions asked. And with the camaro or the Z, you still have 10 grand left to put into an already beastly car....10 grand + Camaro = 600-700whp and the handles with it

  • go home, a nissan is no where near in the same league, i have a bmw 1 series and they will wipe the floor with a nissan. beats it with handling, build quality, style, luxury, and prestige. as for a vette and camaro, try taking a corner and you will be using that 10 grand you saved on medical bills. not the same league mate, bmw are just brilliant!

  • o really? you might want to do some research before saying that. Build quality in the 370z is excellent not to mention that it handles better than the 1 series, and is naturally asperated. And if you really think that a Vette cant out handle a BMW, u really need to go take some test drives buddy. The base model Vette handles the worst of the 3 getting .93 G on the skidpad, the Z06 is next, then the ZR1 with MR shocks from the CTS-V getting 1.09 G. The Camaro handles well for its size too

  • A vett and a camaro??? Really, after 1 yr they are both crap. And who wants to drive around in a Camaro? At least the vett has some class.

  • it understeers a bit because it has perfect 50/50 weight distribution.

For $43k this is the best bang for your buck. You get a luxury coupe that drives like an M sportscar. You can definetly make this car even faster by tuning the ECU and probably doing a dual turboback exhaust system since its twin turbo. No $43k vette could keep up with this thing

  • Try and torque those aluminum bolts! *snap!*

    Under steers like a bitch.

For $43k you can get a Vette, that blows its doors off (either a new base model or used zo6).

  • a vette? jog on mate, try take a corner and you will die, for two reasons, one it cant take corners for shit, and because the interior is shocking, in fact all american cars are crap inside. understeer? i dont think so bud, i have one, you clearly werent driving it right. it was perfectly balanced!

  • parnol, the Zo6 and Zr1 are two of the best handling and braking cars on the planet. Zr1 has the current road car record at the Nuremberg Ring.

  • No it doesnt, the street legal Radical SR8 is much faster than the ZR1

  • TheSkylineShopVancou, the Radical is not a car that can be used everyday, nor does is have a trunk, dual climate control, extra...

  • Your talking about road car records, the Radical is a road car no? its still faster at 6:55

  • TheSkylineShopVancou, the Radical is not considered a road car by Top Gear's standard: it can't make it over a speed bump. It doesn't even have a closed cockpit, so I can't have one because I live in Atlanta where it rains randomly.

  • If a Vette cant handle, then why does the ZR1 beat the GT-R, Ferrari 599 GTB, and Porche 911 GT3 around the track?? Check it out, Motor Trend did a test when the ZR1 first came out. Do some research. American cars are WAAAY better than u give them credit for. Maybe they were crap 20 years ago, but guess what? that was 20years ago, come the the present pal.

  • All I have to say if you drive it you will buy it.

  • I drove this and the 335i. I ultimately fell for the 4 door for practicality. I love the compactness of the 135i but it was too small for my needs. Either way, these cars are very quick, I have only owned it for 3 months and have only put on 2,300 miles so I'm still babying it LOL

  • Congratulations on your new BMW that engine is a gem.

  • The 1 series M will make me jizz.

It'll be a turbo- 4 cylinder, producing 300+ bhp and will evoke the days of the first M3 from the 70's.

    I cannot wait.

  • one more thing: I've read many 135i reviews and this guy was the only one to say "if you wanna buy a 2dr coupe, why buy the slower one?" Priceless in my eyes

    Great review

    Hats off

  • they did made a mistake: the 135i is only 40kg(80 pounds) lighter than the 335i

  • 90 kilos not 40.

  • I've just looked at the oficial borchure:

the 135i weighs 1560 kg whilst teh 335i weighs 1600kg

The figures quoted include a 90 per cent tank filling, 68 kg for the driver and 7 kg for luggage. Unladen weight applies to vehicles with standard equipment. Optional equipment may increase his figure.

  • I want this car...

Hopefully I will be able to buy it in 6 months time

  • this tries too much to be like Top Gear

  • Watching this vid just made me...JIZZ IN MY PANTS!! Haha..I want one..sigh.

    -FRizZ

  • someday.

  • that has nothing to do with this video.. go post that on a EVO-sti comparison video..

  • you pay 40,000 for ze hatchback

  • the reason it seems over priced is cause so much is standard. i mean even the big brakes are standard

  • The understeer that the 135i has is only at its limits. This car handles VERY good and the chassis is TAUT. The reason why BMW didn't make the handling better would simply be because it'd make it too great of a performance car.

Why'd you make a budget sports car that can nearly rival it's halo car on a track?

Myself and alot of others were pissed that they didn't add an LSD even as an option but if they did this car would be to great of a performance value. It wouldn't be very smart of them.

  • They didn't add LSD because it would have jacked the price up by at least 2000k

  • Wrong. They didn't add the LSD even as an OPTION (which means it don't matter how much it costs, at least it's an option) because it would best the M3 on a race track. That would be incredibly stupid because people would just buy this car instead of the M3 and especially the 335i.

That's the REAL reason why they didn't include LSD as an option.

  • I love this car. I was choosing either this or the E55 that I have now and obviously you know which one I went with.

The one thing I don't like about this car is the understeer. BUT it only does it at the limit and MOST drivers are too pussy to take any car to its limits in the first place. This car can easily get tail happy and drifts nicely while the understeer does hamper the fun but it also allows even a beginner to drift semi-safely.

The brakes on this car are amazing and it's fast.

  • very good overview... i would like to see more of these

  • Really nice review dude keep up the good work !!!!

  • this car is awesome i wish i had this instead of my 335i.

  • very good review,great presentation

  • great review, very nice editing!!

  • great review, great car.

  • haha. i'm a delivery driver and my boss told me people have been complaining about my driving.

  • BMW have made something special- with a massive price tag.

  • Be glad you don't live in Australia. The 135i retails for about $72k plus stamp duty, dealer delivery and other onroad costs, making it at least $80k on the road without options. That's $56k in US dollars.

  • this car is so sick, i raceded down with my cozin enough times

  • the g looks better ill give you that, but it is way way slower.

  • one thing he didnt mention about any of these cars is the gas mileage differences.

  • YA MON!!! Sweeeeet ride. A bit pricey, perhaps they could drop the price to 29-32k.

  • Very nice review, you guys made this car very cool, i might buy one now

  • i think it could replace Z4

  • the z4 is a roadster, it wont be replaced by this.

  • nice car...........

  • no match for hyundai elantra

  • No match for HUJ DIE!?

  • you do sacrifice the luggage space, the back seat two doors and gizmos between 135i and 335i and you could buy a used m3 for 335i money

  • it is trully a joy to ride!

  • phenomenal production

  • WOW! I know the car is great and all...but i was mostly impressed by your presentation. GJ! Loved the end :)

  • I was also impressed with his presentation...

  • that was one good presentation done by that young man. Simple but clear

  • Impressive team (webridetv)

  • too bad mustangs are pieces of shit

  • you say it will have the same performance. and sure it would be faster...at breaking down. the only thing the Mustang GT is close to in performance to the 135i is acceleration. in everything else, the BMW destroys the Mustang. and no tuner market? you've just been looking in JC Whitney. with a simple Dinan ECU tune, you get 384 hp and 421 torque. and a good warranty. and that's just the tip of the BMW tuning market iceberg. :)

  • You obviously know nothing about Mustangs. Did you know that they race them professionally around road courses? The suspension, brakes, and engine power are easily and cheaply upgradable to compete with Porsche on the same track. Bang for the buck is on the side of the Mustang and their current modular V8 engines are basically bulletproof. That's what happens when they race them...

  • i never said Mustangs don't have a tuner market or can't be raced. i just said that BMW's do. i agree, Mustangs have an better tuner market than BMW's. i'm just saying there's stuff out there for BMW's. and btw, i've driven a 335i with the same engine as the 135i and it sounds really good. some people like American muscle, it's not my favorite, but i'm not going to say it sounds like somebody gurgling water.

  • I wish bmw would make an ///M1

  • Only people who can't afford BMWs say things like that.

    Get a better job? lol

  • have a great job plus good taste :)

u dont know anything technical abt the car at all do u? except the badge on it. how gay is that !? lolz

  • You are a mustang lover.

Any car that is not American made is supposedly 'horrible' in your eyes. Time to move out of that midwest mentality.

There are better cars out there. ;)

  • there are better cars out there ;)

  • 135 doesnt compete with the G37.

The M3 competes with the G37

  • 335i competes with the G37.

  • 335i competes with the G35

    M3 with the G37.

  • haha. if that's a comparison, than the G37 gets owned. 335i coupe and G37 having closer specs. 335i sedan and G35 have close specs. the Infiniti doesn't have an M3 competitor. no journalists have compared the G37 and M3 (as far as i know. i know of a bunch that have compared the G37 and the 335i coupe.)

  • True, but the M3 is also much more expensive than the G37. Giving the G37 an economical edge.

There really isn't a totally fair comparison between Infiniti/Nissan and BMW. They are a mismatch really. Both are great cars and the decision is usually based on customer choice.

I've noticed that both Japenese and European cars drive and handle differently. American cars drive like boats lol; even the vette and mustangs.

  • the G37's price difference is one more reason it should be compared with the 335i. don't get me wrong, i really like Infiniti's because they are a cheaper alternative to the big German 3 (BMW, Audi, MB). and yeah. hahaha American cars are like driving sofas around.

  • Yeah, no Infiniti is a match for the M3. In fact, the G35 or G37 barely compete with the 335i as far as performance. The G is close, but its still a bit slower. It is however a better buy. Tons of quality inside and out, extras, looks, speed, sound, etc for a lot less than a similarly equipped 335i. I love my G35.

  • in numerous tests, automotive journalists have preferred the 335i to the G37. the G37 is no where as near as refined as the 335i. and you can't try and argue that the G37 handles better. you can argue space, price, and power, but not handling. BMW's have always been drivers cars. the Japanese are very good at copying BMW's philosophy, but they're still copying it. it will never be the same.

  • understeer is fun. oversteer will kill you!

  • I think you have it backwards, oversteer dips the front in too far, causing the back end to come out an play, understeer puts you into a tree head on...

  • in no way does the 135i handle poorly. i don't know what cave you've been living in, but BMW is know for making wonderfully handling cars.

  • BMW RULZ!!!

  • I think the 135i is the best car for the money I own one and it's very very fast I paid $41,500 for mine and only $1,200 more for AA Software and AFE cold air intake and it's now over 400HP and over 425 torque. 1/4 mile in only 12.25 sec with stock tires. A Corvette Z06 with 500HP is only doing about 12.4 1/4 mile times and it's over $75,000 and did I mention it's a Chevy not BMW... Every where I go people ask me that's the new BMW? and tell me "NICE BUY"

  • oh by the way the Paddle shift on the 135i has no delays like the 335i or other paddle shift cars like lexus and Audi. This means you have a feel of a F1 transmission just like a ferrari 355 F1 or the new Nissan GTR. once you master it. You'll never drive in "D" mode again....

  • 135i AKA EVO and STI Killer!!!!

  • I hate to spoil your fun but I absolutely LOATHE the automatic 135i. Nothing irritates me more than a transmission that shifts for me and doesn't shift when I wanted it too. Same thing happens to me in my E55 but damn, at least it's freaking fast.

  • great value for performance & luxury.

M3 costs double the price, but for value,

    nothing can beat the 135i.

  • this guy's a pretty good presenter. why isn't he on the american top gear?

  • Dude you're wrong in every way. For someone able to afford a 40k+ sports car its the way to go...just watch the fifth gear shoot out putting it against the porsche cayman! PLus BMW is a premium brand...why would they go after the likes of civics or mazda?!? Mind you they did try with the 318i and was a disaster...BMW nailed it this time!

  • No, I'm not. When BMW first hit the press with plans about this car that was the price range they said it would be in. Secondly, "civics and mazdas" are in no way 30 thousand dollar cars. That is not the area for bmw. What they said they were going to do was truly make a budget luxury sports coupe. Mazdas are in no way luxury. The crowd I thought they were originally going after was the people who buy fully loaded mustangs, Cadillacs, and such around low 30K price range.

  • I think he is a good host.

  • a souped-up Nissan Sentra? NO THANKS!

  • Are you joking?

  • wow. BMW has no relation to Nissan. the only similarity between a Sentra and a 135i is that they both have 2 doors and 4 wheels.
