I bet a GTR driver can practice all day long, hand over his keys to a GT3 driver and see the GT3 driver knock 1-2 seconds off. The porsche is unforgiving and properly trains the driver. The Nissan is GT5 on easy mode, i've driven one, and let me tell you its not fun to try to go over the edge and have the computer say "FUCKAYOU im grippin!" -____-

I'VE DRIVEN BOTH :D a 997 GT3 and a 2010 GTR.... (non biased explanation) GT3 is a drivers car, it trains you to be better... take it over the edge, and you will spin out. After a day of track, I felt like the GT3 kicked my ass, ready for more next time.
GTR is a family car with race spec suspension and turbos, too much comfort for a track car. Too easy to drive, I feel like I can get the fastest lap possible consistently but it never gave me the confidence to go faster... GT3 >GTR

@IPGAuto Incorrect the Porsche GT3 lost on practically every track against the GTR. Nurburgring for instance Nissan GTR 7:26.70, Porsche 911 GT3 7:40.00. This is also a video of a Premium Edition GTR (The cheapest version) with its basic tires not the Dunlop SPSport and still pulled almost a 4 second lap quicker, so you can imagine what it would do with its top model brand tires. The Transmission problem only happend with a few 2008 GTRs, was also resolved by late '09 - early '10 versions.

Fact is even the guys at Ferrari admit that it has them puzzled, they took the GTR's database and put it into their computer simulation system at Maranello and can't figure out how its so damn fast and how it can achieve its times and perform that well with that amount of weight. now here is my opinion: the gtr is a boyracer boat that takes no skill to drive fast and offers no driving enjoyment or character.
Try a Turbo S or GT2 vs the GTR (a twin turbo). You'll get a different result. Normally-aspirated GT3 is designed for handling, not top-end speed or 0-60 times..
If this guy could have drove the porsche properly it would have been there with the gtr if not faster. A porsche takes a completely new driving style because of its rear engine(break early and power through) all in all both were great cars, but dont understand why a drifting driver is doing hot laps. Definately GT3 all the way!!!

That said - when timed laps are done the GT-R is quicker (with the 530 HP DBA 2012 GT-R - much quicker). Right now - only the 300K GT2RS is faster at the NBR - but we still have to wait for a dry lap as the 2012's time of 7:24:22 was in the wet. LC4 is under warranty as it can only be activated with VDC-R on. It's a great rivalry that keeps improving the cars.
@Howie262 Incorrect, the new GTR produces around 512bhp stock. If you hand your Nissan to the Switzer tuning company they will hand it back to you with 800bhp+ and a bill of 60,000. The engine capacity remains at 3.8 litres, and the number of cylinders remains at 6, THAT is engineering.

What is wrong with Turbos? they are far more efficient than non turbo vehicles. GTR cost less but it is faster, the porsche cost more cause its a porsche of course and its exactly slow either. both are nice cars, both are expensive to maintain. Twin turbo with dual clutch transmission AWD or N/A 6 speed manual. RWD, its all personal preference.

@rooneygy Well, I am very jealous, I have nothing against a GTR, I own a 99' ford explorer and a 993 Carrera S, posche is less of a ride around town car, mine won't go under twenty miles an hour without bitching and shaking or brake normally without cracking and locking up. I like the GT3 better, the car looks beautiful, it may get beat out by the GTR but that's because it doesn't use as much technology to aid it's performance. Also the GT3 is not the fastest of the 911s, the 911 turbo will beat a GTR (in a straight line).

Around the Top Gear UK track, which is a power track more than handling & the GTR was built for handling & not straight line speed the GTR got 1:19:7, the ZR1 1:20:4 & Z06 1:22:4.
Around the Nurburgring ZR1 1:26:4, GTR 1:26:7 so thats a .3 slower for a car that has four seats ect. The GTR is a far better car.

I love watching all these videos of the GTR whooping anything thrown in its path. 1 thing im not fond of though is a drag race. The GTR is not made for stright line speed, its made for a race track. When has a race track been made in a stright line? I say, you want a drag race buy a drag car, you want a fast curcuit car buy a GTR, i did :)
@vulture241 Sam is a seriously good driver, so he's qualified by any reasonable standard. I just think it's a matter of technology and power. The GTR has P2W 7.91 vs. 7.41 lb/hp for GT3, but power has more to do with top speed. But the difference in torque is MASSIVE (134 lb-ft difference), and the GTR has a very high tech AWD drivetrain, so it can harness all that torque without losing grip. That's why it was so dominant in the drag race.
Numbers racing is for idiots..... The fact is the GTR is VERY overweight and practically drives itself with all of it's computer controlled driving aids. The GT3 is more rewarding and fun to drive because you actually have to drive it well to put down a fast lap. Nothing is better than striving to improve yourself as a driver and seeing the end result pay off. It's very unsatisfying when your car saves you from every mistake you make..... The GT3 is also in another league in quality.........

I'm not saying that I want a car that's sloppy, but I've always liked a car that requires skill to drive. gee..i wonder what happens when you put a drift driver in a car that has a natural tendency to oversteer....put a grip driver (an actual real race car driver) in the gt3 and it still may not win, but it would be a hell of a lot closer.
that is fact.
now here is my opinion: the gtr is a boyracer boat that takes no skill to drive fast and offers no driving enjoyment or character.

Try a Turbo S or GT2 vs the GTR (a twin turbo). You'll get a different result. Normally-aspirated GT3 is designed for handling, not top-end speed or 0-60 times..

If this guy could have drove the porsche properly it would have been there with the gtr if not faster. A porsche takes a completely new driving style because of its rear engine(break early and power through) all in all both were great cars, but dont understand why a drifting driver is doing hot laps. Definately GT3 all the way!!!

Porsche turbo vs this gtr would have been a fun match up to watch...
Regardless, both cars are great. One is all about performance (r35) and the Porsche is more of a head turner and has a bling factor.
At the end if the day, I'd go with the Porsche regardless of how it does on the track :)

@greyhounds72 I don't understand you youngin's - does it have to be one or the other? The GT3 (especially the RS) is a great track car. That said - when timed laps are done the GT-R is quicker (with the 530 HP DBA 2012 GT-R - much quicker). Right now - only the 300K GT2RS is faster at the NBR - but we still have to wait for a dry lap as the 2012's time of 7:24:22 was in the wet. LC4 is under warranty as it can only be activated with VDC-R on. It's a great rivalry that keeps improving the cars.

@Howie262 Incorrect, the new GTR produces around 512bhp stock. If you hand your Nissan to the Switzer tuning company they will hand it back to you with 800bhp+ and a bill of 60,000. The engine capacity remains at 3.8 litres, and the number of cylinders remains at 6, THAT is engineering.

@Howie262 Yes Switzer also make a Porsche SPI750, I believe it is faster than a Veyron in standing mile according to Unlim 500 and Dragtimes info. What is wrong with Turbos? they are far more efficient than non turbo vehicles. All car manufacturers are looking into turbo technology now: McLaren, Mercedes, PORSCHE (911 Turbo) BMW, Audi, Saleen, Dodge, Lotus, Corvette and many more.. simply to increase power and meet new efficiency regulations.How do you know it is more reliable? do you own both?

saw a gt3 and a vette messin around on the way back from arizona to cali, then a little while later i saw a murcielago and a 911 (and a mazda 3 that thought it could keep up with them lol) Was pretty funny to watch them weave through traffic then get held up by 2 completely oblivious suv drivers going 65 side by side hehe...

@TheDartblockstang Its not just when you get there its sbout how you get there and thats where the gt3 wins, the RWD with engine at the back is a much more exciting and fun drive compared to the super capeable active awd nissan. The 911 turbo is 4wd for those who want it, the gt3 is a race car (gt3 cup car) for the road - thats the difference. i mean look at the bhp out of that n/a engine - thats epic engineering man

GTR cost less but it is faster, the porsche cost more cause its a porsche of course and its exactly slow either. both are nice cars, both are expensive to maintain. Twin turbo with dual clutch transmission AWD or N/A 6 speed manual. RWD, its all personal preference.

Whats sad is the owner even said in the video that the gtr was designed to be a 911 turbo beater. next time create a comparo with similar attributes. I.E., turbo, all wheel drive, etc. If this was the case you would find the Porsche to come out victorious.

lol the gtr can beat a ferrari enzo in a 1/4 mile, so a gt3 has nothing on it.
the gtr has been recorded to do 62 Mph in just 3.2-3.4 seconds the enzo is 3.6 omg..
look at the stats on the gtr and the cars it beats, ive been trying to find out how it is so fast and i really have no idea how it is that fast!

@rooneygy Well, I am very jealous, I have nothing against a GTR, I own a 99' ford explorer and a 993 Carrera S, posche is less of a ride around town car, mine won't go under twenty miles an hour without bitching and shaking or brake normally without cracking and locking up. I still stall my Porsche from time to time, talent is what you need to own any manual 911.

Porsche 911 owner here so bias may show. The Nissan is an amazing car and I like for other car makers to make porsche sweat perhaps it will make them concentrate a little more on the better balanced Cayman see what they can do with that car. He looked like a good driver (kick my ass for sure) but I would like to see the 911 in the hands of someone who is not surprised by the oversteer (perhaps not a drift champion). Also which car did he look like he was having the most fun in?

I like the GT3 better, the car looks beautiful, it may get beat out by the GTR but that's because it doesn't use as much technology to aid it's performance. Also the GT3 is not the fastest of the 911s, the 911 turbo will beat a GTR (in a straight line).

Is there a another car out there with 4+ seats that can beat it in a drag race & around a track? I don't think so. It has heated seats & aie con too! More reliable, an American car! I don't think that has ever been the case. When they tested the ZR1 on Top Gear UK after a few miles bits were falling off.
Around the Top Gear UK track, which is a power track more than handling & the GTR was built for handling & not straight line speed the GTR got 1:19:7, the ZR1 1:20:4 & Z06 1:22:4.
Around the Nurburgring ZR1 1:26:4, GTR 1:26:7 so thats a .3 slower for a car that has four seats ect. The GTR is a far better car.

The GTR is a New car, New Technology, New Chassis, New Engine, New Everything. You can turn the driving aid off, all the computer does is keep using it full 480 BHP & tells u when the cars faults ETC.. Even without traction control it grips its a masterpiece & Porsche will never achieve a car as cheap as the GTR

I love watching all these videos of the GTR whooping anything thrown in its path. 1 thing im not fond of though is a drag race. The GTR is not made for stright line speed, its made for a race track. When has a race track been made in a stright line? I say, you want a drag race buy a drag car, you want a fast curcuit car buy a GTR, i did :)

@vulture241 Sam is a seriously good driver, so he's qualified by any reasonable standard. I just think it's a matter of technology and power. The GTR has P2W 7.91 vs. 7.41 lb/hp for GT3, but power has more to do with top speed. But the difference in torque is MASSIVE (134 lb-ft difference), and the GTR has a very high tech AWD drivetrain, so it can harness all that torque without losing grip. That's why it was so dominant in the drag race.

Numbers racing is for idiots..... The fact is the GTR is VERY overweight and practically drives itself with all of it's computer controlled driving aids. The GT3 is more rewarding and fun to drive because you actually have to drive it well to put down a fast lap. Nothing is better than striving to improve yourself as a driver and seeing the end result pay off. It's very unsatisfying when your car saves you from every mistake you make..... The GT3 is also in another league in quality.........

@DrinkerofBeer09 Agreed. That's the problem with high tech cars. I admire the incredible technology they possess, but like you I prefer a car that requires some skill to drive. I'm not saying that I want a car that's sloppy, but I've always liked a car that requires skill to drive. If I ever owned a supercar, I'd prefer it to have no ABS, no traction control, and no paddle shifter.
