I saw a semi truck roll over and blow across the parking lot into Kroger. than it tore apart The Hermitage property and uprooted most of the of 150 yr old trees in it's path. I'll never forget it a very massive tornado
i was downtown in the somment center when this happen i so scared i saw the legs with my eyes and my dad truck ended on top of a bar on brodway downtown that worst day ever
i remember i was in school at lockeland and they made us get off the bus and run back in the school because the tornado was down the street. we ate off the red cross truck and didnt have lights for about a week
damn, this tornado, the Salt Lake City tornado an year later, the Ft. Worth Tornado of 2000, and the Atlanta Tornado last year proves that tornadoes can hit anywhere, the Fort Worth one was close to home for me since i in Hunt County TX, about an hour or two away from the DFW area.
I remember this. I was in 7th grade at Two Rivers Middle. We got to school and went straight in the hallway, but my mom drove back and picked me up. If I remember right, it tore the roof off of one of the gyms at the school.
I remember i was in 4th grade, we had had tornado drills at school most of the end of the day, and as i got home my mom said a bad storm is headed towards us, i remember standing outside with my mom and the sky looking very "green". Everything was so quiet, my dad and i got on the roof of our home when we saw the monster about a mile away headed towards us.We ran into our closet.Remarkibly the storm stopped half a mile from my house. I have nightmares still about tornadoes because of that storm.
That was right in the path of the tornado. I was on the riverbank right across from Shelby Park and watched it go by and when we looked straight up the clouds had that green color.
it was my senior year @ TSU & i just turned n my senior project win it became very dark. looked out d window & saw a tornado touching down behind a dorm. @ dat moment d window bubbled out, i new it was going 2 break so i started hopping d stairwell railing 2 get 2 a lower level. made it down, den n a panic i ran towards my dorm fighting d wind as 2 tornados were bouncing around campus. 1 of my friends was caught downtown she knelt beside a building covering herself b/c it was raining glass. wow!
i can't believe its already been 10 years. i was in 6th grade and remember driving home with my mom on briley parkway, then hear that the tornado hit the gaylord building not 10 minutes after we had passed it. my aunt was in the suntrust building downtown when it hit (ironically enough, she was also in atlanta when the tornado hit there too)...it was a scary, scary day
i remember being in 7th grade when this happenned.. my mom was downtown, they had a 18 wheeler fly over her shop..she worked right down the street from the Police dept.
she was able to get to my school about 5:30 pm to pick me up..
Yep. I don't know where that myth came from though. Nashville, Dallas, Ft. Worth, Chicago, Miami, Atlanta, Salt Lake City, Oklahoma City, Memphis, and St. Louis - that's just a sample of major urban areas that have seen tornadoes in the last century or so.
I'll never forget this. Trying to get home driving down Ellington Pkwy. It didn't look like a tornado, more like a wall of cloud. I tried to get in an underpass, but it was already full. Then visibility zero with a wall of rain and tree limbs hitting the windows. The car shook violently, then after an eternity it was gone, both the car and myself unharmed. I still don't know if I was on the outskirts or actually IN the thing. Everyone in Nashville has a tornado of 98 story. 10 years ago! Wow.

Would like everyone to know that TN leads the nation in tornado deaths with 112 between 2000 and 2010. MO is next with 70

After what has happened in Miami Atlanta Nashville and Salt Lake City its just an urban myth that tornados don't hit downtown areas of big cities
