I appreciate the way you break your video down; It makes it a lot easier to understand. However, I am a little confused. On the first roll, using just the snare and bass, you would count it like this?
(snare) 1-te-tah, 2
(bass) -te-tah
(snare) 3-te
(bass) -tah
am I counting this right? if so, how many times through do I count it. If I count it right then its only 3/4 of a measure. Thanx for your time

@mikeroxannandrew Hey. You need to think of it in 16th note triplets instead of 'normal' 8th note triplets. so instead of 1-te-tah 2-te-tah etc it would be 1-te-tah &-te-tah 2-te-tah &-te-tah (all the way up to four). 16th note triplets have 24 notes in a bar. That means if the phrase is 9 notes long you can fit 2 full repetitions followed by 6 notes to finish (in this case its RLRLFF). it sounds alot more complicated than it actually is!
Who came up with the term "gospel fill," or "gospel chops?" Are they only used in church services? Nice drumming dude, but what a crappy name for a fill... AT ITS CORE ITS ALL RUDIMENTS, NOT GOSPELS.
I think it's awesome that you post your licks for free on youtube man. for a lot of drummers their special little fills are coveted secrets that they are unwilling to share. And obviously many people appreciate different perspectives on fills they can add to their arsenal, so thanks!
loved this - very simple but effective. and thanks for breaking it down so well. I cant stand guys that play a fill at normal speed a few times and expect the masses to understand immediately.
On my kit I'm only using 1 overhead because my other one is under my snare drum. I need some mic stands, but for now its good. Thanks again for your vid
Thanks for breaking down these awesome drum licks. I've been checking out your other gospel fills lesson and they have been really helpful. Looking forward to more.

One thing also that you can do is play the first time through on the snare and the second on the toms, or visa versa. Adds a little verity. :)

could this be counted as a 9 stroke roll for just one bar??
alloneword154 2 years ago
a 9 stroke roll would be RR LL RR LL R
i.e. 2 sets of doubles followed by a single. This lick is a combination of singles and feet.
samnadel 2 years ago

RLR FF RL FF
