the most annoying thing was tthe news coverage...It's snowing- we're caved in- I GET IT!!!!! They didn't need to go on about it, if we wanted an update all we needed to do was look out the window.
Where I come from, the snow record is something like 75 cm. Yep, for THAT storm I got stuck in my home for 4-5 days. The problem here is that we also have flood and erosion risks when the wind gets to 56km/h or higher: gale force wind. The Atlantic whips up and becomes a beast that can swallow the beaches up like a fat man swallowing a donut. They only shut down the schools around here if the drivers can't see the road or if it gets too icy to move. One inch of snow-bah!
Since the snow has not totally abated in the UK, a pointer or two from Boston, USA: DON'T PANIC!!! Get to the store and buy food BEFORE the bad weather comes, and buy a lot of it so you have a 3-4 day supply!!! If you've got a fireplace or woodburning stove, buy wood, tiger tim logs, and long fireplace matches-it will keep you toasty. buy batteries for your radio and candles just in case you lose power, and always wear your woolies outside!!!
lol in slovenia we had over a meter and a half in about a min that is a lot and poeple was still out there in there cars and people was at school and working
but we had like snow things to clena the roads and i love the snow
lol it is well funny i am from england but omg come on what the hell
In my country (Mexico) it snows in some parts, generally in the north. This year has been the worse and also it snowed in the central part which is not very common. In Mexico City it hasn't snown since 40 years ago, and if it does only in the mountains and volcans. So, the ones living in Mexico City, we really want every year that it happens a miracle jajaja.
Im from hertfordshire just above london and basicly everyone went insane, there was suddenly no heating for the elderly, pipes burst, airports closed, we were adivsed not to go out unless it was very important and everywhere was shut.. i couldn't even go to the chippy :(
it snows in winter here in the great white north. I know it snowed in October in Alberta, we in Ontario got snow later in December. We did get a white christmas.
So... 40 cm is the equivalent to 15 inches. Here in the self-proclaimed "Snow Capital of the World" (Western New York), just in my town, we ended up with 3 times as much. About 48 inches of snow in two days.
Nothing gets cancelled. Ever. :X
It's interesting though! You guys end up with the bunny hill and everything turns into chaos :)
Brits need to toughen up. Why is everyone at home? Your green party complains about 4x4s and now they actually have an opportunity to be practical, and no one is out and about.
I live in Canada, weve had atleast 3 feet of snow since the start of the winter. Its pretty much the same with or without snow, business goes on as usual.
there's a lot of snow here in Slovenia, but much less than usually. usually it starts snowing around october, november, now it only snowed three times and it's almost the end of january. as far as i remember, even if it was 1m+ of snow outside, schools were never closed. nothing is ever closed because of snow.
Yeaa! everyone else is stressin about the snow.. but not my college ¬¬ ive had go in everyday =( Bad Times. Just need the boiler burst or summit xD cus the snow aint helping !!
I have been of school for a week because of the snow, not that i'm complaining, but it's pretty stupid the way the whole country just stops as soon as the smallest bit of snow. But it is pretty fun just staying at home to play in the snow. x
Its not so much the snow. it is the persistent cold. It fell to -22 degrees in the UK a couple of days ago and every night where I live it has fallen below -10. last night was -12. its just too damn cold.
i live in wales and its bad around here, its not that the snow is the worst, its after its compacted into the fall and turns into ice, thats when we cant do anything :( i am learning to drive and i cant book me test because of the snow :| and i cant take any more lessons till the snow clears, its BS man.
its funny. i lived in canada for 5 years when i was little and im like: what are yo ON about? its snow! get over it. and they're all panicking and going: omg omg ice age ice age.
Most children here in western Oregon love the snow when it comes and play in it and people go sledding down empty streets and such since people do not drive on the steep hills we have here usually when it snows. Going down a long steep hill on a sled is fun.
I live near Portland, Oregon on the west coast of the US & whenever there is an inch or more of snow the reaction is similar to what you are describing although I don't know of many people crying over it. But many ppl freak out & complain, school is canceled, most businesses are closed, public buses are on limited snow routes & can only go 25 mph bc their tire chains, ppl are getting into all kinds of accidents & cars are abandoned on roads. Western Oregonians are wimps when it comes to snow too
I'm from Alaska, but just recently moved to the UK about 4 months ago for uni. In Alaska, we could easily get 2.5 - 3 FEET of snow at a time. When I was 16, I would drive have to drive 30+ miles in the snow to get to school. But regardless people manned-up and went to school/work. (It was very rare to have a snow-day)
I'm now in Gloucestershire, and there's about 3 inches. They almost closed our Tesco! I love you British, but MAN-UP! It's just a little snow!
here is Denmark is soooo freaking cold, minus 6 degrees Celsius during the day time and minus 10 at night... it's never been so cold, I don't even wanna go out. We still have to deal with snow, but in the Scandinavian countries is pretty normal; I'm from Spain, so for me this is close to death lol... I can't believe how cold is it.
Do you mean to say that the Nation that persevered through the bombs of Hitler falling on a daily basis, cannot cope with a few flakes of the fluffy white stuff? I guess you'll just have to hide indoors and watch telly and drink beer. Wait.....do you have enough beer on hand to wait out this emergency?
i remember it was snowing in 2004 or sometime and only about ten schools were open and my school was open. i admit dont like snow moved to australia 40 degrees christmas =D
We can't cope cos we arnt prepared. Overall our climate is neither tropical or reflective of either pole. Its just mostly rain and coldish temperatures and in the summer hot afternoons. its best described as shitty. As we rarely experience either extreme we were kinda caught out by the snow and coldness of late. Whereas in Canada they would have facilities, equipment and operations planned incase of heavy snowfall.
basically the very few people in this country that pay taxes are getting screwed over by the stupid politicians who would rather spend our money on a hot tub.. well HA cause i hope it gets iced over! sorry i had to do another comment cause i waffled too much and my words went ovr the limit :) so yeah.. they would rather buy a hot tub than grit.. i feel so sorry for old people and this is the one time i suppourt chav violence.. go kill politicians!
I'd say it's defiantly worse in the north and south east. Being in the south west, we hardly get what you call "extreme" weather.
It's weird to think that only a few years ago we NEVER had or even expected snow like this... We're unprepared because we haven't needed to be prepared before...
Ice age on the way? I don't mean major one i just mean like the minor one in the 1700s...
here in sweden, where im located, we got really much snow, since im from up north, and its been -34C for a couple of days now, now thats something to cry about, haha :P
right now, here in sweden we have up to 50cm snow. everyone still goes to school and work though, during my lifetime the schools only closed once, when there was a blizzard and we had 100 cm hah, but that was back in 96!
HAHA.. so glad i no longer live in UK. Here in Australia we have a 24 degree night tonight and i think 35 degrees tomorrow, in the next few days the weather shall get up to the 40s :) x
Here in Norway we have snow up to our knees, and its not really a problem.. Of course, it's slightly impractical if you're going somewhere and you have to walk a long way, but still, things carry on as usual=)
This week has been absolutely boring! I've been cooped up doing nothing except watching Judge Judy, revising for my A-levels, ating and shoveling snow! I went to the shop yesterday and it was the most contact with humans I've had all week! It was the most time spent outside this week! t may be exams soon, but I'd gladly take that over being cooped up here all day!
i lived in Scotland in 2000 - 2001, and a wintherday it was like 3 cm of snow and the schools closed... now i live in my home country, Norway, and here is about 6 - 6,5 meters of snow... Why break down and cry. Are you really thatl weak...
Im in Germany, and theres quite alot of snow but it usualy always snow around this time here, and am just going on with daily life haha, apart from the school bus didnt go to school today so we turnt around and went home. but this is the only day weve been off. and apprently there is going to be a snow storm or something over the weekend haha, but yeah England are just crying about the snow and i doubt its not as bad as here. btw i am English, 100%, i just live out in Germany atm :)
Here in Alberta were dry and don't get all that much snow, but the snow we get is turned into a blowing white menace. Last month we did not let unusual weather even for us stop us from our daily routine. Yea we look at -50F and say "bring it on"
As long as we have our warm and very sunny summers we are happy
thats funny cause in the southern states we rarely have snow so just abit of snow and the schools close and people freak out but because its so rare u either love it or u hate it
oh! and you don't know how lucky you guys are for getting off for not even having a foot a snow on the ground. It takes at least 2 feet of snow with a layer of ice underneath that for just the schools to shut down.
But I guess you guys just don't live in it with 5 months out of the year like we do lol.
I would like to say a few things in response to this video.
1. Snow is not a bad thing, it is amazing and I love it! There are so many different things that you can do in the snow; ski, sled, snowmobile...
2. You don't know what a lot of snow is until you have been to where I live during a normal winter. We get up to 3 feet or more some years.
3. You must be getting all of the cold weather in England, because here where I live in America it has been to warm all season, which sucks. Worse winter!
i live in the south east of england, we have about 3 inches here and half the roads are closed, the schools are shut and i couldnt start my new job thismorning lol
lmao i live in chicago, it has to snow 30 cm around 2 am for us to get a snow day. but thats because we have a very effective snowplow system that i imagine places that dont get alot of snow dont have. so but yea its pretty normal routine except with snow boots
Exactly, they don't even know what a lot of snow is. Where I live in Oregon we can get 4 or 5 times that much in a night and sometimes we still don't get school off the next day lol
Love your videos man. Keep up the good work. Anyway - I lived in west Texas until I was 7 and never saw more than 2 inches of snow at a time. Then we moved to Ohio (Talk about a SHOCK) where the average annual snowfall is 145 cm 34 cm in January alone. Later I lived in Maine where the average annual snowfall is 178 cm 48 cm in January. Needless to say Im used to it by now. My advice? Get out and enjoy it while it lasts. There's nothing like a good snowball fight. 8)
Here in the South-East the ice is in line with the pavement on the road; it's so thick. And my school has been closed. MY school. It NEVER closes when it's snowing, but other schools always do, so this is a first; it must be bad.
Last big storm here was Saturday into Sunday. How did I deal with it? I was 1 of the guys running a plow truck around town keeping the roads clear (one of the big trucks, not a pickup). We got 20" (50cm). Other then being one long night it was no big deal.
from a canadian point of view i will admit that u guys do have a lot of snow there. if we had that same storm here, i am sure the schools and universitys would be closed. one big difference is that in the uk there are very few snowplows and people dont have snowblowers or winter tires so. they have a much more harder time dealing with all the snow.
here in middlesbbrough at sj james cook hospital at a standstill haha,.,., its gone nothings working..... its fine by me i love it hahha and well you know jordan free cuddles off the lasses pmsll
Can't go anywhere, there's too much traffic, everywhere has run out of grit, if you manage to get to the supermarket everybody is buying all the salt so I can't have any on my chips, even the little tubs, the shelves are bare because people think they will starve to death because of some god damn precipitation. but my school has we've had an extra week added onto our christmas holidays, not been since last December, and our school never closes when others do.
Global warming for us hahah ... over 4000 schools closed in our area haha.. no grit no main roads gritted busses at a standstill... trains off.... hahahah great weather hey and once again great vid
because of the gulf stream the uk is not so familiar to snow. in germany it is similar but not so bad. in the past years the germans get to adapt to the snow in winter. but the news are still reporting horrorstories about that.
...What I think is that maybe they should be a little bit more prepared for such a "state of emergency." I mean, come on people. Get your asses on a snow plow and suck it up.
Ok, so I lived in Ohio my wholllleee life. If you know Ohio then you know the crappy ass weather we have during the winter months. I used to walk to school in snow up to my hips. Yet, school was never called off, stores were open, people driving around. Then I move down south to Virginia and they get like 1 inch of snow and they're all holed up in their house's and when I go to the grocery store all the milk and bread is all gone.
Yeah i live in south wales lol schools closed and most self owned businesses are closed. Cant drive anywhere because the council cant be arsed to grit the streets
It snowed on Christmas Eve in Texas! the first white Chrismas I've ever had :) it was a lotta snow too.. it's crazy though, cuz the day before it snowed it was like 70 degrees (F) but that's Texas for you...
The midlands isnt that effected. We only got about an inch of snow on the ground and it hasn't snowed since yesturday morning. The real problem here is the cold!
@BKsMassive, it's not moved off us, they're just a huge patch of high pressure over the UK at the moment blocking the gulf stream forcing it around the big patch of pressure and allowing the cold winds from Russia and Siberia over the UK causing this 'Big Freeze'
Most of us english people spend ages wishing for a white christmas and as soon as it hits january we dont want it anymore and we start having major worries i find it hilarious
i knww! its really bad coz iv got an exam on thursday too and schools been shut since tuesday so i dont know whether the exams are still gonna be on :S
People may not be killing themselves but they have died. Some man froze to death in scotland and somebody crashed their car. I have had quite a few days off for snow over the years. Hopefully no school tomorrow. :)
haha Jordan another good video mate! Everything in Burnley came to a holt really well most schools... all colleges was shut apart from mine wont impressed :]
AAAAAGH! THE SNOW....TOMORROW...WILL BE.....I C E !!!!!! we cant hanle it! its too much, I cant deal with this, its too much. God lives in England so nothing ever happens, he doesnt curse us with anything...but its gonna be ICE, ICE!!!! di you hear me??? ICE!!! ice is slippy....*starts crying*...its slippy...I wont be able to walk with my usual ease....I cant handle this.
Lets just stay in, lock all the doors, keep the news on and get the whiskey out.....thats the only way we will get through.
i know! its so rediulous!! i listened to trent fm radio and how many shools are closed!! then i went outside TINY BIT OF SNOW!!! wtf??? its slippy but not OTT!!
yeah, the snow is affecting my ability to get drugs. dealers can be so lazy...oh yeah and people cant drive..people are breaking down mentally. The English arent mentally prepared for snow, there are people in tears, crying at their cars being trapped in their driveways...on their knees screaming 'WHATS GOING ON?.'
Unfortunately the video isn't loading for me, but anyway ^^: In Germany we haven't got that much snow this year but I guess we are more or less prepared for snow because as soon as there is a nice layer, the "snow machines" (what do you call them?) are there and they're putting salt everywhere.. But of course there are still lots of traffic accidents etc.
Glad this winter was the warmest in 14 years and it was not shitty like last year.

DanReborn 2 years ago
lmao i live in chicago, it has to snow 30 cm around 2 am for us to get a snow day. but thats because we have a very effective snowplow system that i imagine places that dont get alot of snow dont have. so but yea its pretty normal routine except with snow boots
yansi888 2 years ago
Exactly, they don't even know what a lot of snow is. Where I live in Oregon we can get 4 or 5 times that much in a night and sometimes we still don't get school off the next day lol
swedishgorilla1 2 years ago

BrokenClocks08 2 years ago
Last big storm here was Saturday into Sunday. How did I deal with it? I was 1 of the guys running a plow truck around town keeping the roads clear (one of the big trucks, not a pickup). We got 20" (50cm). Other then being one long night it was no big deal.

from a canadian point of view i will admit that u guys do have a lot of snow there. if we had that same storm here, i am sure the schools and universitys would be closed. one big difference is that in the uk there are very few snowplows and people dont have snowblowers or winter tires so. they have a much more harder time dealing with all the snow.

Can't go anywhere, there's too much traffic, everywhere has run out of grit, if you manage to get to the supermarket everybody is buying all the salt so I can't have any on my chips, even the little tubs, the shelves are bare because people think they will starve to death because of some god damn precipitation. but my school has we've had an extra week added onto our christmas holidays, not been since last December, and our school never closes when others do.

because of the gulf stream the uk is not so familiar to snow. in germany it is similar but not so bad. in the past years the germans get to adapt to the snow in winter. but the news are still reporting horrorstories about that.

...What I think is that maybe they should be a little bit more prepared for such a "state of emergency." I mean, come on people. Get your asses on a snow plow and suck it up.
koolkittenrawr75 2 years ago
Ok, so I lived in Ohio my wholllleee life. If you know Ohio then you know the crappy ass weather we have during the winter months. I used to walk to school in snow up to my hips. Yet, school was never called off, stores were open, people driving around. Then I move down south to Virginia and they get like 1 inch of snow and they're all holed up in their house's and when I go to the grocery store all the milk and bread is all gone.

The midlands isnt that effected. We only got about an inch of snow on the ground and it hasn't snowed since yesturday morning. The real problem here is the cold!
handofdestiny123 2 years ago
I went to college with no problems, I'm from South Essex.
Mattspageofapathy 2 years ago
the reason why it is so cold is because the gulf stream has moved off us but it will come back by sunday :)
so when they gulf stream moves off us for good, it will be like this everday! :D
BKsMassive 2 years ago
@BKsMassive, it's not moved off us, they're just a huge patch of high pressure over the UK at the moment blocking the gulf stream forcing it around the big patch of pressure and allowing the cold winds from Russia and Siberia over the UK causing this 'Big Freeze'

The news is annoying me. They're making such a big deal about this weather, for no reason.
I live in the middle of the countryside, so getting into town was a challenge today. But it sure is fun watching everyone fall on the ice.
Not many cars in town. All the pedestrians were walking on the roads where it's less icey.

Badly Affecting Me
CCTProduction 2 years ago
yeah, the snow is affecting my ability to get drugs. dealers can be so lazy...oh yeah and people cant drive..people are breaking down mentally.
