  • LEGALIZE THE GREEN

  • the sweep sounds bad

  • The Iguana from Hell.

  • IGUANA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks!

  • a diamond in the rough...clean it up a bit and that would sound fucking great

  • fuck! stop talking so much

  • Like you said tones bad, but still constructive critisicm, just clean it up a bit. im not saying that like a bunch of these assholes. also with the guy below me, you can do whatever the hell kind of patterns you want, so mr. parker, suck it.

  • Sloppy sweeps.

Stop trying to slide in and out of them to cover up your mistakes.

    Just learn them correctly.

    Iguana.

  • Haha i have an ear for accuracy when ppl are shredding and they &^%$ up. But i can barely tell if you entirely missed all the notes descending on the arpeggio's or they just flew by to fast to hear them.

  • ur accruacy must be 1%

  • is that a jason becker pattern?

  • Nope, it's a lot more boring. If you take the major scale, they are the relative chord arpeggios for the following scale degrees:

    8, 7Maj, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 5(II inversion), 1. Similar to Canon in D.

  • uhh how do you do that last part on the guitar? I want to learn that :)

  • I'm guessing you're talking about the last few seconds (not the sweeps)? Well, that would be alternate picking. I made a video lesson about it awhile back which should be enough to get you started.

As for the patterns, I used some descending groups of 4's. Take a scale (I used major and mixolydian here) and play the scale degrees like so (3 notes per string):

    8,7,6,5 | 7,6,5,4 | 6,5,4,3 | 5,4,3,2 | 4,3,2,1 | etc...

There are tons of patterns like this that are fun to play! Try em!

  • ur right...u are much clearer..haha...

shit, doing them sweeps, it looked like u were trying to grab the fretboard and fold it down or sumthing XD...hehe...

i cant really do those like that, in fact i'm still in the process of even doing them good..lol...check out the vid i have and tell me what u think...lol...its just bullshit sweeps n wutnot XD...but i still think they're fun as fuck to do :P

  • Sho-off =p jk* where'd you get a J-custom, it's fancy!!! =0

  • Heh. The J-custom was a benefit of working in a musical instrument store and making a few connections over at Ibanez (Hoshino USA).

  • What's up with the iguana?

    haha

  • Since people made such a big deal about the jacket, I knew they'd talk about the iguana... so I beat them to it. :-)

  • People give guitar players a hard time in here, I am not sure why. I guess you can't whack off to internet porn all day.

Don't listen to them, they are jealous

  • Yeah, who needs porn when you have a fretboard. jk

I don't let people bother me... it's just the internet. Can't take it too seriously. :-)

  • sloppy as hell

  • You could use some time with a metronome to tighten things up, and you'de be insane!

  • Excuse me for sounding gay, but this kinda reminds me of the intro to black parade? Not ragging on you at all man.

  • I didn't get the reference there, had to look it up (I'm not a MCR listener). That song sounds decent, but it's not really my thing. That progression I played should sound familiar to most people: it's almost the same as Canon in D and is one of the most copied ideas in musical history. (I didn't make this video to be musical, just to demonstrate sweeping patterns).

  • do you hold the pick with 3 fingers?

  • Yes, I have a strange picking style. But it seems to work fine for me. Kind of a pre-80s style. A few other shredders do that too like Morse and Friedman, I believe.

  • Yeah, when I saw that the first name that came to mind was Friedman.

  • your sweeps are terrable bro. u nevr plant ur 11's

  • good vid

  • that was sweet its like weeeee!

  • You rock dude! You know who this is...

  • dry and soulless, just being honest.

  • was that a jason becker song?

  • Nah, it's just a simple descending chord progression translated into arpeggios: 8(Maj), 7(Maj), 6(min), 5(Maj), 4(Maj), 3(Maj), 2(min), 5(Maj), 1(Maj). No real musical quality here, just a demo of arpeggios/inversions.

  • Very nice. Record something really recent, man. You're coming a long way with your technique.

  • Hey thanks! Yeah, I have so many song ideas that I want to develop and record, but not very much free time anymore. But hopefully something good will come soon!

  • Trust me, I know exactly what you mean, man. lol. Well, you've nothing but time on your side and the guitar will always be there. =)

  • Better off Shred!

  • Make a video of a sweep lesson?!

im trying to learn in about 2 months. If that is possible

  • I might make a lesson eventually. In the mean time, I'd check out some Frank Gambale sweep lessons or that Paul Gilbert one over on the right (related vids) -->

  • I don't like Canon in D, but I wouldn't shun everything that has a progression of: 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 5, 1. Pretty generic and good for showing different chord inversions. It's not serious music, just fun.

  • What did you program Skycars in?

  • I used an old DirectX language called DarkBASIC. For its time, it was pretty nifty for a BASIC language, allowing 3d libraries, plugins, direct mem access, etc. I wouldn't recommend it anymore because there are much better and more versatile, open source game engines now in C++. Music done in Music Masterworks midi editor. Sound with a mic and CoolEdit. 2d with Photoshop. 3d with Wings3d and Valve Hammer. Physics code by hand with a lot of headaches and Mountain Dew.

  • good.

  • Yeesh, don't like those sweep picks. They scare me. Love the shreeed at the end though!

  • @Charlessale: How does a sweep scare you? Remind you of sweeping up the kitchen floor? :-)

  • U R A LEGEND DUDE

  • @Neoclassical: Heh thanks man!

  • That is hot! I love your noodly fingers.

  • @bloatie: Pfft. No, YOU'RE hot! I love your bloated... nevermind.

  • nice!

  • Thanks Bryce, really appreciate that, anybody else wouldn't be so kind but your sky cars tracks are worth this chat. At night watching the universe, relaxing, listening your sky cars tracks especial neptune, than people can start see things.

  • No problem. I know exactly what you mean (that's why I wrote those tracks). If you like that, you should check out Bluemoon's original SkyRoads music, or for non-midi try Boards of Canada.

  • mp3 player wont read the midi format, so thats why, but i got your point.

  • Gotcha. I know 2 ways to do this.

1: Get a program that will "render" your midi directly to a waveform using either your soundcard or (more likely) some soundfont packages. Usually a good idea, unless your midi has uncommon instruments like the SkyCars tracks do.

  • 2: Use a basic sound recorder prog. Play the midi and record the output as the input. With some soundcards you can do it directly by setting recording device to "soundcard output" or something, but with others you need to run a cable from line-out to line-in.

  • i like your hands

  • Hi Bryce, where can i download your music from sky car game. You know each planet has own theme music, they're great.

  • Hey, it's rare that somebody from YouTube references my programming / game development work! You just made my day (or at least an hour). Ok, I've uploaded all the SkyCars music tracks to my website in the music section.

  • Thank you very much Bryce, they are all good. My favourites are Hollo, Lonely7, Neptune.

  • One more, i tried to convert them from midi to mp3 but its quality is much worse, what do you think? Any chance to have them on mp3 file with the same quality? thanks for any answer.

  • Hmm, that's an odd request. Why would you want them in mp3? Converting a midi (sequenced) to an mp3 (waveform) will not improve the sound quality, and the output depends on what your midi device is: good soundbanks/soundfonts result in better playback. If confused, think of it this way: mp3 is like a painting while midi is instructions on how to paint: it's up to the user (your soundcard) to do a good job. So, the best approach to this depends on what you're using these songs for.

  • A bit sloppy but not bad.

  • SICKSWEEPS

  • You've gotten a lot better since that earlier video you posted way back when. Excellent. =)

  • fucking insane my friend

  • why is there a lizard on your shirt...!!:) lol hehe...goooood vork u really rock! very nice sweeps!

  • um u have crappy tone and stupid iguana and macaroni fingers and ure website is conceited.

but i gave u 5 stars cause of the hobbit

  • IGUANA

  • haha yeah! that's what im talking about. nice dude.

  • Those arpeggios were badass - good to see that u posted more stuff :)

  • Thanks man, glad you liked. Been too busy to post any "real" videos lately...

  • It would be one thing if it was just me, but I am not the only one! :)

  • The iguana thing was funny. actually. And I tried to play that up with the "jacket or iguana" thing.

However, on a serious note, people tell you that your sound thru the 'puter is bad, and yet you tell us (collectively) to not pay attention to it...

  • I'm telling people to ignore it because I can't afford the equipment to fix that problem right now, heh.

  • Dude... One hell of an ego you have. Not only is the website "bryce-kicks-ass" (which is BIG HEADED enough), now you talk smack to people who are trying to help you.

You have a crappy tone. sorry! but it is relevent because it could sound SO much better!!

You have an iguana on your shirt. don't know which is worse, jacket or iguana. but you post yourself to the WORLD and act like a jackass. so it doesn't say a whole hell of a lot about YOU.

  • I sent you a response but I'm going to summarize it here...

  • I didn't choose the website name - it was free. I didn't talk smack about anybody, but it seems you're doing so for no good reason.

  • You try posting a video online and see the thousands of senselessly rude comments pour in. People bash you for completely irrelevant things like what you're wearing, your haircut, your voice, your website's URL (wtf?), etc. Frankly I'm tired of it, so excuse me if I take preemptive measures (by mentioning the iguana in this case). I see it as humor at least, I'm sorry you're so easily offended.

  • I'm not concerned whether a few people think I'm a jackass - you don't know me personally and I'm bigger than that. It just bothers me when people post on my videos without any consideration themselves.

  • haha i agree with you 100 percent man.

  • YouTube won't let me post comments/replies unless very short... blah!

  • Those are some crazy sweeps Bryce! I especially like the run you play at the end.

  • Thanks Jason! That run is actually kinda filler material, nothing too innovative :-P

  • dang man u zoom through those

    can ya gimme some exercises?

  • Fieryfender: check my webpage for "Mystic Sweeps" tabs. Then watch Frank Gambale vids.

  • I might do an instruction vid later, but Gambale is more than enough. A monster player!
