A lot of people don't get the third album. Maybe they haven't gotten there yet. The way I see it, the Big Star albums chronicle being young, and the third focuses on the sense of disillusionment at the tail end of "coming of age". Some call it an existential crisis, others call it ennui. I just call it, BIG STARS THIRD. Now, if only Chilton had come up with an album that focuses on paying taxes and raising kids....
One thing that sickens my tits about Big Star is that everyone associated frailty with genius. This is such a weak album. Give me #1 Record or Radio City any day. The songs are much better. They're not miserable and wimpy like the third album...
It appears you have spent the last two weeks listening to every song from the Third album on youtube, and leaving a comment about how much you hate it and how it "sounds drunk." We get it... you don't like Big Star's Third record. Surely you must have better things to do.
@davebest2001 "Third" definitely has an acquired taste, it's really only a Big Star album by name. Alex wrote all the songs except "For You", with no other creative input from Jody or other musicians. It's a classic non the less.

At this point, religion is useless. Religion is something people hold onto because they know there is no hope without it. They linger at its purpose to feel that they can go on living that nothing is as corrupt as it seems. But this world is corrupt. It is diminishing because of power. People are overly selfish and ignorant that they do not care if one dies in order for them to get what they desire. They are hedonists. They must be destroyed in order for us to save this world.
Thank you for posting this! I love Big Star. They're one of my favorite bands ever. Check out my cover of "The Ballad of el Goodo" sometime if you get a chance. Cheers.
Closest thing I've heard to Dylan since Dylan

Such an oddly concocted song - but monumentally charming. And yes, I wanna dance.

i say the bad thing of Big Star's songs is that they are so short, then I think that if they were longer they wouldnt be so good.
so i'll just play it all over again, till my drukness is gone or till the moon goes down.

Third album is by far the best Big Star record in my opinion. Hauntingly beautiful. Slower and perhaps less poppy but so much deeper than 1 and 2.

@davebest2001 I disagree, but since you said "sickens my tits" I feel strangely compelled to agree.

We invented religion, GOD invented us. GOD made us in HIS image, we been trying to remake HIM into our image ever since.
