Great cover! Hey, was that a Nader sign? I guess that would mean this is early 2000s then. And I guess he said "Vote Ralph" at the end then? Just curious. Anyway, great song, still applicable to today's social atmosphere I think.
A beautiful song that applies today as much as forty-something years ago. I wonder if we'll see a Dylan / John Prine / etc revival, considering the state of things.
Peace and love to all the Youtube haters out there. I hope that one day, all can experience the wonderful sensation that comes with an open heart and an open mind. We are all on this ride this together, and a beautiful world living in harmony is only as impossible as we allow it to be.
@cculb1 Nicley put so agree with this in the shadows of the occupied movement I have been hoping the change would come in my life time and it's happening so happy for my humans and the youth coming up have something to look up at us in pride and not shame!!!

I'm baffled to see that this received 20 dislikes. It's a beautiful rendition of one of the greatest songs ever committed to record. Well done Eddie, well done.
Started listening to Dylan's songs long before songs of PJ. [although I was born in 1980] Dylan's songs were great, but his voice isn't all that...Eddie Vedder has a fabulous voice, so my opinion is he revives Dylan's songs..it's a tribute to Dylan and a big honour voor Eddie I guess...PJ still rocks my world :) Keep on singing Eddie! :D
I enjoy Vedder's cover songs. With any great vocalist, people love not only their own music, but also most of their cover songs. Vedder can do a powerful cover of Who songs as well. David Letterman said "If I had this man's voice, you could all kiss my ass!" lol Vedder has golden pipes.
This song was the national anthem and the marching song for my generation...we did what we could but, truth be told, we didn't quite manage to take it all the way home. Thank God for Eddie Vedder and for all of you out there who still understand that there is still a dream and that the times, they are still a changin! Carry it on...peace...love. Make it real!
Eddie knows how to cover Dylan because he does it out of love and respect for Dylans music, masters of war at msg 30th anniversary concert is the best there is. thx for the upload
The only constant thing in this world is change. Yet this song is TIMELESS... Dylan was indeed the spokesman of his generation, and Eddie, ours. Hats off to you both for being a monument in the history of rock...
One of the first songs I learned on guitar in high school. Perfect voice for this song! Heard him perfom it, or at least a clip of it in a documentary about Ralph Nader called "An Unreasonable Man." Amazing!
pearl jam used to be a red hot chili pepper cover band, then they gave them a spot on one of their gigs to play original stuff and everybody loved them
You can see that Vedder has got trouble singing this song because he's emotional. He was emotional during " I am a patriot" that night also. It was a special day for him i guess.
lookin a little bit like Johnny Depp here... Vedder does a great cover, nobody can top Dylan but this version means more to me as I grew up a '90s kid
Actually I'm a Bob Dylan fan and don't know much about Eddie Vedder, except that his band was called Pearl Jam. But I have to say that this is the best cover of this song.
@Ramaz1969 Indeed, there is a lot of crap on youtube. Vedder is a rather good singer songwriter, you should check out his album of into the wild. Beautiful songs and every one gives you chickenpox.
@sharon012490 I agree with you. Dylan, both his poetry and voice were unique and to be honest, back then we simply accepted Dylan without critquing his voice. Vedder does this great justice...

@matrix4022 So are you one of those types that judges people with dismissive labels like "douchebag" based on one thing they say that you to disagree with? Awfully sad way of living, bro. Judge based on action and the content of character rather than verbal interpretation...or even misinterpretation, for that matter. For my dollar, Eddie Vedder, based on his actions both past and present, strikes me as an honorable soul who deserves my respect, and I'm not even the biggest fan of his music.
@matrix4022 True. But to say "He said something and therefore I think he is a douchebag" is not the same as disliking hate-mongers like the KKK or mass-murderers like Bin Laden. Not the best comparison. I know many folks who hold vastly different viewpoints and opinions than I--either political, social, or spiritual--and I consider them to be friends. What was is it that Vedder said that turned you off, out of curiosity (and I'm really interested, that's not a confrontational question)?

@hazer333 Yeah, I just feel like there are too many great front men who are constantly being compared. Vedder is brilliant in every essence of the term. When your as great as Eddie of Jim, you are unique and yourself, not comparable too anyone else.
@Tigerpuffer and keep in mind, I do like Bob Dylan, and the original is one of my favorite songs, but I love Eddie and PJ... and this performance is just amazing. I am breathless
@ConTurk: Ah man, it's close. I don't have it in me to badmouth the original, it's such a good song, but I love this version and Eddie Vedder is da man.
i think in 30 years the world will realise what a legend eddie vedder is, and what he has done for music over the last decade!!! maybe then he will get the praise he deserves. he def gets it from me!! sadly the times ARE changing and i hope that the artists of today can take some insiration from music like pearl jam!!!! Its artists like eddie vedder and adam duritz from counting crows that keeps music
@wikid24 I hope you realize that you can't name an artist who doesn't cover someone else's work in concert. I also hope you realize that uninnovative isn't even a word. It was nice of you to jump in, but I think PJ fans have a better taste in music than the average fan, and definitely realize that this is a Bob Dylan cover. This isn't Lady Gaga. What you also do not realize is that Eddie actually got Dylan's permission to cover it. Uninnovative biter my ass. Learn English, then learn the facts.

Wow!!! I love Dylan's music, one of the most talented song writer ever, and Eddie Vedder voice fits perfectly for this song. Beautiful!!!

Tigerpuffer 1 year ago 2
@Tigerpuffer and keep in mind, I do like Bob Dylan, and the original is one of my favorite songs, but I love Eddie and PJ... and this performance is just amazing. I am breathless

@Tigerpuffer I agree this is an amazing cover mate, but I think the orignal just beats it, Just!

@ConTurk: Ah man, it's close. I don't have it in me to badmouth the original, it's such a good song, but I love this version and Eddie Vedder is da man.

Its artists like eddie vedder and adam duritz from counting crows that keeps music
alive. KEEP ON KEEPING ON!!!!

@MrRapelol i am keen to delve into you music taste?????
deanthehoff 1 year ago
@deanthehoff i hope you realize that this is a cover from dylan, vedder is just another uninnovative biter here
wikid24 1 year ago
@wikid24 of course its a cover. And its better than the origianl.
deanthehoff 1 year ago
@wikid24 I hope you realize that you can't name an artist who doesn't cover someone else's work in concert. I also hope you realize that uninnovative isn't even a word. It was nice of you to jump in, but I think PJ fans have a better taste in music than the average fan, and definitely realize that this is a Bob Dylan cover. This isn't Lady Gaga. What you also do not realize is that Eddie actually got Dylan's permission to cover it. Uninnovative biter my ass. Learn English, then learn the facts.
