correct me if I'm wrong but this isn't pointless... he only does the work so he knows the answer is right, if you put a bunch of algebra constant stuff that i don't understand into this, someone could answer a question they don't know with this.
@trumpet190 That electronic device you're tying on, which I assume you think is fun, is essentially this K'nex creation, but a million times more complex and a million times more compact.
Now the golf balls on the bottom should drop to a real extra long calculator, pressing numbers, and then with one finger pressing an equal button would show one number as the answer! woohoo!
you should make it so that if you pull one piece of knex all of the balls get released into the answer bars at the bottom instead of pulling each one. I don't know how you'd do that but i think that would be a lot easier?
Ok, I know this is math and it shows skills and schooling and I am not as smart as all this, but honestly, what is the point. It seems more confusing then needed for math. Is this something that one may encounter in their life as in, is this a skill needed for jobs? I really honestly do not see the point in knowing about this. Or I could just be a lazy retard. IDK it hurts my brain to think about it.
When you make something like this, its the thrill of going from concept to finished, working device that is the motivation. We use electronic computers and calculators all the time, so seeing the basic, mechanical representation of how these devices work, using knex no less, is cool to see. Its like a puzzle. You know what the final product should do, but getting there is the challenge.
if you had a big bag of golf balls and wanted to count how many there were you could stick them in a big tube above the 1's column and drop them... as long as they release slowly enough for it i guess. nice vid
@NakedCreep I can actually back my statement up, can you? I said it was pointless because it's way too complicated. It's much easier to to the additions in your head. Larger scale? No, that just makes things worse.
yay carry-over mechanism! very cool. my problem with this is that the amount of thinking required to use it is probably more than would be required to do the math yourself. make a frontend!
its a handy thing to make schould maybe be handy for schools with kids that need to learn math (math=wiskunde from my country but theres a lower lvl then math but i dont know the name of it in English) 5stars its a good Calculator
