I can't blame them for thinking it was cheating back when it happened. That has to be your first assumption without the information they give you in this documentary. That said, he obviously wasn't cheating. Just really good at memorizing patterns.
The irony is Michael Larson could have used his achievement at winning at Press Your Luck and got any job on Wall Street - Wall Street is always looking for talented people who had "cracked" the system and made tons of money!
CBS are the real crooks. They changed the system so that noone could ever win big money ever again. And that's not exciting, probably why the show failed.
"The prevaling question was how could we let this happen? What can we do about it? Do we pay the guy his money?"
Ok Cbs, here are the answers.
1, Because you were too stupid to realize that the board wasn't random. You designed it in a way that was bound to be figured out, so it's your own fault this happened.
2, nothing
and 3, Unless there's some rule saying you can't watch a game show and figure out a winning strategy, then yes, you should pay Michael his money.
@facefacts911 Card counting (without a device) is not illegal in any way. Casinos just reserve the right not to host card counters. Yes, casinos can kick you out for being too good at a game.

Yeah, definitively not cheating.

it's only cheating if you change the elements of the game...what he did was like card counting
jopollak 2 years ago 119
@jopollak Then why is card counting illegal? Just curious.

@jopollak
Not really, because casinos can kick you out for card counting, or even just doing good. They had to pay Larson
bullet50000 9 months ago 2
@jopollak Exactly, it's not illegal. It's frowned upon, like masturbating on an airplane.

@jopollak Card counting is also illegal...
