  • That's awesome to see someone so bright, giddy, and happy after such a blessing of having the ability to hear again :D

  • God Bless this family !!!!

  • She is beautiful.

  • God bless her :)

  • Oh gosh. Bawling my eyes out. I hope things are still working out well for Ellie. God bless her and your family.

  • She is an Angel!!!!

  • What a cute reaction once the sound was just right! I'd be excited and making a bunch of noises too!

  • This is simply beautiful!

  • God bless you and your family. :0

  • this is beautiful

thank god for the miracle of modern science

  • Beautiful video, beautiful little girl. I love how excited she gets hearing her own noises and laughter!

  • This one is awesome!!!

  • This is incredible. Just look at how excited she is to hear all of the sounds the hearing take for granted! God Bless

  • God bless you little child. I am going in the morning with my 10 year old girl for pre cochlear implant surgery, please pray for her.

  • how did she lose her hearing?

  • (last page) But, I am happy that I am able to give an expression of my opinion, since there is a long debate. Have a wonderful time with your child, I'm so happy for her, she finally restore her hearing. (I couldn't even imagine how they feel if they got hearing back)

    Have a nice day!

    Daniel

  • (page 5) parents a wrong approaching, sense of fear putting thie child into the Deaf World. So think about who is to be blamed for shrinking Deaf world? I'm not supporting about being bad or good. There are things that it needs to be considered. I'm very like wanting to give some knowledge that I am very devasted that enemy were produce once cochlear release. Therefore, I am really apologized that they give parents a wrong approach, but please think of different situation that could have happen.

  • (page 4) ... instruct the child to learn the sign language, I'm giving out notions. I have learned sign language and oral thru the school. They had TSP program, it's running out of the business, which helps Deaf to have two mode of communition; visual and audio language. I feel umm... like bad or disgusted, because I'm part of the Deaf world. But i have seen so many Deaf have soo many rivalies, or telling the parents not to give them a cochlear implant. I mean, sometime they could be giving ..

  • (page 3) I think the person with CI or without CI, even though this person is still Deaf, as in fact. I think they should know basic signs or could be advance if desire. These will be a great back up. For example, if there is a plan to enroll the child into a swimming school. They will be required to take off the cochlear implant due to the lack of water proof. Or anything that requires to take off the CI. Then.... (oops)....:-X So, take a consideration such as that. I mean I'm not forcing to...

  • beautiful....she;s seems so excited to be hearing again! Best of luck!

  • I can feel her eyes as if they were my own,... ready to learn and read everything in her world. Only if she could be free from "lock-in" with focus on the lips of hearing adults!

  • Wow, so you are opposed to her mother asking questions to her during the mapping process so that they can ensure that it is set to just the right level for this particular little girl?

  • I can understand why you are angry. Well, you would think I am sicker if I send my hearing child undergo surgery and have him become deaf because my grandparents are deaf, and myself and my husband are deaf. I wouldn't do that,...I would want to leave my child's natural Orangic as the way he is,...and be willing to learn how to communicate with him, instead of forcing a baby be someone it wasn't destined for.

  • Was this video about you and your family? Try to look outside of yourself and remember that it's not all about YOU. Next time your family member needs surgery of any sort, think about how much sense your organic comment makes. Ellie and her mom were thrilled in this video, and you had to be negative? Again, evidence of people unable to look forward to the benefits of living with hearing in a hearing world. Ellie giggles with joy! Wake up

Go rain on someone else's parade, grumpy.

  • I wonder who actually is grumpy? I wasn't even emotionally attached to this whole thing. Your messages all sounds you are mad, worried and anxiety, maybe you are worried about losing your job because you just realized it's is not right thing to do by putting scars on children's head. Sheesh.

  • I don't think I'll lose my job as a mother. :-) I can't imagine why you would want to post this kind of message on a child's video. After all, she already HAS the CI. It's really sad, and I hope my implanted kids never have to hang out with people like you.

  • Oh you are the mother of Ellie? The mother who thinks she is doing the right thing? You are only thinking of yourself, not for Ellie's future. You just don't want your child to be called freak, or dumb. Its very sad. I hope many mothers think you aren't the healthy kind and won't follow your steps. Ellie doesn't know anything better, she is just a child who loves new things, like its toys. One day, she'll become sad. Just watch her. And be careful with your arrogrant words and attitude! Chill!

  • No, I am not Ellie's mother-- nor do I even know them. Why in the world would Ellie be a freak? As the mother of kids with CIs, that is an astounding statement. Did you notice that Ellie has excellent and complex language skills already? The video info. said that she lost her hearing 4 months ago. Ellie is NOT a part of your family, she is a part of her own family, which is (I'm sure) rich in its own culture and heritage. She gets to continue to hear, now, thanks to today's technology.

  • Just wondering, since Ellie's already CI, I understand that. Will you also encourage Ellie to learn ASL, American Sign Lanugage soon? Or you will not?

  • As i stated, I'm not Ellie's mother, so I can't speak for them. I can't see any reason that she would need it, considering her new hearing and her language abilities. Perhaps she should learn Spanish or French, though.

  • I have five Deaf friends who major in French, and Spanish at several universities...three of them born Deaf, and from Deaf families. Two of my Deaf friends can even write Latin and French fluently. Five of my other Deaf friends are from France and Germany. Plus I have alot of Deaf friends who came from Mexico and I grew up with them. Deaf community isn't only in America, but its international community. Its a big community world wide. I am proud I am fron this beautiful community.

  • Remember, this is a video about this little girl and HER happy moment. No one is disparaging your community, but not everyone has to take part in it. You must realize that it is far easier to learn a foreign language when one can hear. This little girl now can. Just be happy for her.

  • How can I be happy for her if I know this beautiful, bright, young child is going to grow in isolation. You may never know it and being able to hear does not make it easier to learn forgein language. You can hear about 20,000 fequencies, and with CI, the hard, naked truth is the deaf child will only hear 44 fequencies out of 20,000 fequencies.

  • Your science is out of whack-- CI electrodes allow hearing in the entire speech range. Kids with CIs hear reallly well, particularly if implanted young or when having only been deaf a short time. I am around this every day, so I know it's true. Isolation is when you go about in a hearing world and can't find people who speak your language. It is not allowing kids to hear who previously could not. Again-- rejoice for the kids who are implanted early or after only a short time of deafness.

  • CI is not my science. I just happened to know the data that shows the true fact about the average of hearing, and CI just fails all the way. CI is such a sad invention that has ever been done on this earth. We the Deaf community will always welcome Ellie regardless of her ability of speaking, even if she has a CI. She is always welcome. Its just you and your kind of people who act like superior over the unique minority really disgust me. You're just pathetic, and I will not waste my time here.

  • Since you have not actually heard my child speak or see him listening in ordinary situations, and because you refuse to believe the truth about CIs, and because you believe false things, you will never see kids like Ellie or mine wanting to join up with what is becoming a very exclusive club. CIs work absolutely well for the vast majority who get them early. I'm sure you have spent lots of time on Pubmed researching double blind studies? Hmm. Wake up-- they work.

  • I will never be rejoice for the kids who gotten CI....its like death to me.

And this is not only an exclusive club. This is a group (International) of people that accept all walks on the earth just because we all have something in common, we all were treated like you are treating me right now. SICK SICK SICK SICK!

  • I have done nothing but speak the truth. Your club is becoming more exclusive because you alienate those who choose to hear via CIs. I haven't done anything to you; I get to enjoy my children hearing and speaking every day. Now, so does Ellie's family. She was so obviously thrilled that it's absurd to think that you would try to cast a pall on that special day.

  • Kwilinski, just wait til the children grow up. There are plenty of adults who are Deaf but got implanted as a child and they are miserable. They wish they learned ASL. I think it is you who needs to wake up. And it is you who waste lot of time.

  • There are actually few adults who received their implants in early childhood, since one needs to be implanted prior to age 2-3 to utilize typical auditory pathways (and it wasn't FDA approved until 16-17 years ago.

  • It is clear, soujourner55, that you are hoping to see kids like mine fail, and it upsets you that they are happy and well adjusted kids who get to live very typical lives without language restrictions. We parents know the reality since we live it daily, and we will make sure that our kids know what you've said about us and how you feel about their successes and hapiness.

  • Kwilinski, I do not hope to see failures in any children. I had a friend who got implanted when he was young and he is lonely today. He is stuck in a world where he does not feel belonged. (actually, in the world of his parents choice). My mom decided to not implant me when I was a child and I thank her everyday for that. If implanted children are successful, I am thrilled. But if they are going to grow like my friend, I am sad. I try to encourage parents of the implanted to learn ASL.

  • Wow! I read the whole comments based on debate. Personally, I'm Deaf with cochlear implant. I love this video, made me to cry and my hair fiereced up by its impression. I couldn't imagine how if they remember the hearing before her loss and after her activation. I was born Deaf, so I couldn't imagine what it sounds like in accoustic hearing. But to my point for signing, I think being Oralist could be a good thing for education. Because hearing world is much bigger than Deaf World... con't

  • (2nd page)... Deaf world is actually smaller than hearing world, so cochlear implant is much helpful for being independence. I have heard alot of rumours that one of the girl "BECAUSE OF CIs" I mean, cochlear implant is not to be blame. We were warned that we could be infected with Mengititis (SP) or if your cochlea is not in a good shape. It's not to be blame dude. My cochlear implant works great! I wore for (counting my fingers) 14 years! Sorry, Now i got back to signing part, I think the ...

  • Isolation would be her not being able to communicate with her family and friends BECAUSE she's deaf. Her family and friends are hearing people and they want her to be part of that and so does she.I'm deaf too and you know what my ears can't hear but my brain can think (unlike yours)and I wonder every day what it would be like to hear the birds singing, my mother's voice, my dad's voice instead of being mute. You have no right judging people! You are noone!

  • Do u know what this reminds me? Holocaust. Colonialism. Tyranny. Do you know who you remind me? Michael Jackson. That is pretty low kind of person. You are a loser who falls into the world of "Cyberborg." Yeah, I am no one. I can be me and the way nature has intended me to be. When civilization falls, electricity, batteries, and everything will runs out. You wouldn't know how to survive without depending on CI. What will you do if you can't hear and can't communicate? iPod will never save u!

  • Holocaust? Colonialism? Michael Jackson? iPod?U're all over the map! Why don't u just stop pulling shit out of ur ass just to sound knowledgable?? I am very able to communicate and function without a CI because I simply don't have one. In another posting u said how terrible it would be that she would only hear 44 of 20000 freqs. Well honey, that's 44 more freqs than u'll ever hear because of ur close-minded attitude & hostility! Ellie's smile says it all so keep ur 'mouth' shut u "freq." :)

  • Hey "youarefullofBS"

glorioussierra7 isnt allover the map, she is presenting plenty of truth but you just dont want to realize anything.

Ellie's smile? look carefully in the beginning, that is all I can say.

I hate to be the one to make u sad, but dont worry about it because you have plenty of hearing people out there,... dont come and scare more people, dont come and try to implant more people.

Deaf people,... they are people too. Party with your own people and leave us alone.

  • Again, I've seen alot and I really dont think you have seen anything except your own little yard from what you have said.

If you saw what I saw, u wouldnt be saying any of this and encouraging Deaf babies to go to Deaf schools, socialize with their own people. You seriously would....

  • To Full of BS, man... It's sad to read to your comments... there is nothing intelligent but obtuse points. You are just an angry person. I am not going to waste my time wiping your craps from ur anus.

  • For you to equate cochlear implants with the Holocaust is not only a slap in the face to those who endured it, but a slap in the face to the children who get to use this technology to talk with their buddies and parents. When civilization fails, I would expect that all of us will have more than one difficulty; not hearing would be simply one of thousands of issues. Having learned to speak clearly is still an incredible benefit, and one which makes lipreading incredibly easier.

  • Or BSL, British Sign Language if you are from England... just my guess. :o)

  • This was not only about my family or me. It is about Ellie n children like her, you guys don't realize you are creating a lot of losses you made on our community by adding computer devices into a deaf child's head. Ellie would have become a wonderful Deaf leader in our community. I am thinking of the Deaf community. It's our family, Ellie's and mine. But unfortunately, I guess you prefer for us to call you guys the Deaf killers, or maybe the colonialist, or secretly, the proud anti-deafhood?

  • I could feel her soul, constricted, searching, and reaching for more information beyond the modality imposed on her. Expand her biological language and communication horizons by imposing nothing and embracing everything.

  • I saw her eyes light up when she asked "Can I take this home?" but I suppose you didn't hear her say that. She was jumping up and down with excitement that the implant was now HERS!

  • Right on, Katz! You were always a good teacher! Darla

  • Expand her language and communication horizon by imposing no limitation. I can feel her constricted soul. Her eyes reflects yearning for MORE information beyond what's imposed on her.

  • I can see she is using her eyes most of time. She should have gone to Deaf School, not being a victim of CI. This is very sad if she will grow up as an oralist.

  • You are one sick person. She is getting the chance of a lifetime! She also has an attentive mother who makes sure that she can see and understand mom's questions so that the mapping goes appropriately. WAY to GO mom and, of course, Ellie!

  • glorioussierra7 is only expressing her personal opinion because she knows how it is to be Deaf.

FYI, Kwilinski, being able to hear is not a chance of lifetime.

Being Deaf is a chance of lifetime!!!!!!!!!

There's so much of beauty in American Sign Language and having a community filled with Deaf people. Beautiful. Implanting people is not the answer. Why do Deaf people need to be fixed?

  • This was one little girl and mother's happy moment. Why you would choose to negate their fun moment is really beyond those of us who know that hearing is a good thing and that we are not fixing kids but allowing limitless opportunities. Try to be happy for those kids who have good things rather than gnashing your teeth about your own angst.

  • You are one sick person. She is getting the chance of a lifetime! She also has an attentive mother who makes sure that she can see and understand mom's questions so that the mapping goes appropriately. WAY to GO mom and, of course, Ellie!

  • This is so sweet
