When I first saw this scene, I was shocked. Elena is growing more and more capable of tricking vampires. Reminds me of Katherine. They are both dopplegangers, both trying to survive. For that reason as the show goes on they get stronger and smarter.

I know I should be focusing on the killing here(to make that clear - I side with Elena here, she couldn't be 100% sure Rebekah would go through with it, and she'd already seen Elijah fail - and just a slight mishap could ruin the whole thing), but... I really, really hate Rebecca's dress in this. She's so pretty, yet this dress does her NO justice. She looked truly beautiful in that blue one in Ordinary People.
