it call a rake not a sweep not sweep it call no kicker on the ball wheel it will spin whit out no kicker it call yoyo he do not know what he is talking about it it look clean how it run omfg Brunswick pins i used amf pins not Brunswick Pins they suck
1950s Engineering at its finest.. Also, that shakerboard needs adjustment. You can hear it at 5:50 making a neat little banging noise. I do miss working on these things. Good 'ol mashers.
1). Does the sweep wagon actuator work 4 complete cycles for one main cycle of the machine (both first , and second ball)? I see the cams so I'm assuming 1st and second ball cycles are the same, other than no electrical delay on second ball.
2). Is the drive motor 1 hp 115 volt single phase, or do slower machines get smaller motors?
3). Is there always a ball accelerator ( 1/4 hp, 1140 rpm , 115 volt single phase), because it looks like it could work with just gravity.
IN my area (buffalo ny) most alleys use a2's or jetbacks which I assume are similar, although some models seem to operate 30% faster than others. I couldn't quite tell if this was a fast machine or slow machine, and, seeing as there are separate motorpulleys for the main gearbox and elevator, I assume you could have a fast machine with a slow elevator , amoungst the 4 combinations. A few questions for the experts amoungst you (see next post).
@Bill25cycle The A2s and Jetbacks do run faster because the motors have smaller pulleys on them causing them to run faster. The Original Model As run slow as molasses, but its such less wear and tear on the machine that it's almost worth it to use the other motors or install the pulleys. The Japanese A2s used motors with different voltages than what the US A2s used and ran ever faster than a regular US A2s/Jetback.
This is actually really fasinating, im applying for a job at my local bowling ally so these videos are teaching me the ins and outs of the machines, thanks guys =D x
Good video, but how does the pinsetter see to that the pins are turned the right way before they go in the pin wheel so they don't go in the pinsetter upside down?
@Gumbypotty the turnaround pan at the top of the pin wheel takes care of that... watch closely, no matter which way pins are facing when they get to the top, the turnaround pan swings them around the right way onto the pin elevator.
it call a rake not a sweet on a a2 dam ass he do not know what he talking about it call a lift rod or a pin on the track you do not show a black out what oor is a black out bull shit it will stop at 90 u do not know what u r talking a bout wow u got old pin in it u need to get amf pins is the best on the market u do not have any kicker on the ball wheel u get carpet cover on it u do not have the auto oor wow only 2 lanes
You ever just pulled a pin out outta range??? uhhh, just pull the hook, unless you want a 500lb deck to crush your ass and your feet with no shoes lol Yeah, never shuts it off, only deckjams so it doesnt break anymore shit
@MIkey2008g6 Actually the motor to gearbox pully (the one closet to the motor itself) is smaller than most and this slows the gearbox down causing less ware and a softer setting of pins and they will wabble alot less.
ive been working for brunswick for about 10 yrs and out of range is when a pin slides on the pin deck on first ball and the scissor cant pick up the remaining pins wher are these guys turn pan cams i bet you they have alot of 180's wit pins headfirst
drfirebird,,, you are absolutely correct, i too am a mechanic,,, and an out of range is exactly what you said. there is no blackout. thought i was losing my mind for a second. thank you
As a 20 year Brunswick pinsetter head mechanic, I will correct one thing said in this video. An out of range pin will NOT cause the machine to black out. It will disengage the clutch at 90 degrees and the out of range lever at the back of the machine must be pulled for the clutch to re engage and lift the deck off the out of range pin. Any dead wood on the lane must be manually removed as the rake will not sweep during an out of range cycle. Blackouts are caused by deck jams.
@drfirebird64 actually in the 60's i believe, brunswick had automatic scoring called "discrete" (i bellieve) which had a double detect combined with deckpad switches to count pins. and the machine did blackout during to allow for scoring, since the deck switches couldn't be used, there was a device at the top of the cross conveyor that counted pins after an out-of-range blackout.. if you can find a really old parts manual, you can see a double microswitch above the 4-1 area
@drfirebird64 I love bowling at AMF houses and hearing people yell "Deck Jam on XX" when it's actually a table jam. Hilarious.I prefer to use auto out-of-rang kits installed which is what we used at the MSU Rec Center. They are a pain to get adjusted but save so many headaches and calls. I wish the other center I worked at after school had them.
@drfirebird64 The last time I went bowling, I heard pins being thrown out the back of the machine. What usually causes that ? It is just something that happens from time to time when pins get jammed or is a part in the back of the lane faulty ?
@JKnight51480..... If you heard pins falling out of the machine, the most likely thing that was wrong was what it called a " Turnaround Pan Jam" . On Brunswick model "A" , "A2" , and "Jet Back" machines, there is a "Pan" that turns all the pins going up the conveyor belts in the same direction. (Bottom First). Sometimes the pins jam and if the pin wheel keeps turning, the pins will fall out of the machine onto the floor.
If I could make a request: maybe in your bowling ball review videos, you guys should each talk about why you chose your ball's layout and what it's supposed to do.
I always thought that there were guys back there setting them back up lol

What happens if the modulator T bearing skips during a mid cycle? Does the A2 shut down or does it rely on the Vertix coil until it can be looked at?

I saw twice where the pin turret forgot to load 1 or 2 pins into the setter :-)
Joelomite 1 year ago
@Joelomite those were extra pins. Some bowling alleys have 21-25 pins so if a pin is lost, you still have enough pins for a 2nd rack.

This is true. Unless they have out of range kits installed. Then there is no need to have some one run back and pull the lever.
