once upon a time i had an ax73 and loved its sound especcially the filter fm. but the editing is awful and the ax 73 is huuuggeee and heavy so i sold it.
I was given one but the guy had played with a couple of wires; anybody could help me restore the beast to its original state? contact me at pierre-andre.boucher@videotron.ca. Thanks
I have an Akai AX-60, and people tell me that the two sound the same. After hearing this, I feel that there is a difference between the two. Whats your opinion on it?
They all have the same circuits. I believe this and the AX73 had different voice assign modes so you could play it 3-voice polyphonic with two oscillators in each note. Probably what is happening here. My favorite thing about my AX60 is the sawtooth waveform with PWM applied, it has a weird sort of sync/wavetable quality i haven't heard anywhere else.
If you can get a hold of an S612 you can do some great dual-oscillator sounds with that by sampling the AX60's raw oscillator sound or whatever else. There is a special 13-pin DIN cable used to hook them up, but this is unobtainium, I soldered together two dual inline PCB headers (they have the exact same pitch and spacing as the original pins) and some Cat 5 cable to make my own. Only the first 7 pins on the connector are used.
