I visited Zippcast for the first time. The social media functions seems to be there. I think YouTube's 'grey-out' of functions is to make it impossible to have UT as a home. Instead everyone is supposed to also have Google+ and Facebook and Myspace and Twitter. YT becomes a video-listing without any real reason to visit a channel since there should be nothing, only videos. so sure, it's a deliberate strip-down of functionality.

You could feel all of this coming when the removed Friends and made them Contacts. Fellow YTubers are a close knit group and the new channel design is made to keep it as impersonal as it comes. They have limited characters for the About Me or the Channel Description and in my opinion, they tell all of your business but allowing your subscribers know your every move.
