To become a Pilot/Combat Systems Officer (CSO) in the Air Force you must have or be within 365 days of receiving a baccalaureate degree (BA or BS) awarded in any major.
To apply for the Pilot/CSO Officer program you must have a GPA of at least 2.5 and take the AFOQT.
in case any one was wondering, u think they would let any idiot fly a multi-million dollar aircraft?
@evoldevildogs F-16 is way more capable than the f-35 in dog fights and maintenance and everything else besides the stealth the f-16 is just simply better, it will never be replaced
I have always thought you have to be the BEST to be a fighter pilot, which I have striven for ever since I was 3 years old. I did join the USAF Auxiliary, on my way to Cadet 2nd Lieutenant, but right now I am a Cadet Staff Sergeant, after two years. I am a Mission Radio Operator Trainee, have my ACUT, I also took the ICS-100 and IS-700 exams for Emergency Services, since that is one of our major things in CAP, and soon I will become a cadet pilot, which would help me. B+ GPA also, private school
@edwardschristopherj You have to be serious about school for sure. Unfortunately, most high school activities will only help you get into college. Good grades in college are the key. Join an ROTC unit and work on getting good grades and you should not have a hard time getting into flight school. Do a little research, some schools have higher placement rates than others. Placement into aircraft is part hard work and part luck. Don't forget, the Navy flies jets too. FLY NAVY JETS!!!

Also Edward you would have to get used to the awesome amount of g-force. It's like if you were sitting in a spong seat going at f16 speed doing a turn, you will sink into the chair until you straighten up.
I mentioned before how it's not easy keeping the plane in the viewfinder, and you managed to do it while zoomed in on the plane! Excellent job! The best is when the planes surprise you and fly over your head. :)
@evoldevildogs To be an F-16 Fighting Falcon Pilot, you have to have gone through honors in high school, be the best in your class, get letters from different senators and governors, be accepted into the USAF Academy (Or university with AFROTC and flight school), and graduate from there. IF you are selected into flight school, it is random, and the Air Force will put you where they need you. Since everyone wants to be a Fighter Pilot, you will most likely be put into transport or something else.
@edwardschristopherj I drank beer in the ang, c's make degree's. was a carpenter. aimed high! paid for school, now a geologist. being a fighter pilot these days will end up shooting you down with a drone.
@edwardschristopherj So, my advice...(easy way out) join ANG or ROTC. Go to school and become a software program specialist. With a C average with the military paying for it. Play ALOT of NINTENDO! by the time your of age and education, you'll be great. And if you want the rumble and G-force, by a corvette! you will be able to afford it and still get your jolly. Manned planes will be of the passed soon.
@Curicua Last I was in the military, 60 or more credit hours college to be accepted into officer candidate school, then flight school AFTER you complete your selected 4 year degree at the academy as an officer candidate. Flight school ONLY AFTER you have a 4 year college degree in other words, so you must show some decent previous college aptitude to even be selected into the academy...then you must perform well in your class and graduate with a degree before application to flight school.
@PhrynosomaTexas wow sounds tough...was my dream to be an f16 fighter pilot but made bad choices in my earlier life but now Im an aircraft mechanic but only on civian aircraft, (non military career). thanks.
@evoldevildogs You need a bachelor's degree to be a pilot. It's best to have something in the physical or computer sciences. Maintain a high GPA. Get a pilot's license. Enlist in the Air Force, Navy or Marines. Good luck.

I saw an F-16 at RAF Finningley airshow here in the UK back in 1991.
It was turning tight circles over the airfield with its burner on! - JEEZ the noise was deafening! For an Airplane with only 1 engine it is LOUD!
Great video - thanks

@ToonandBBfan It is surprising how loud it can be with one engine....but what a engine it is =)

it doesn't matter anymore because the USAF is scraping the F-16 for the F-35
its sad because the F-16 has so much potential
apparently to the air force awesome performance is not as important as crappy stealth and honorably maintenance

@evoldevildogs Uh...you'll need college, and quite a bit of it, before you would be allowed to even attempt to qualify to fly one of these.
