@megafunk (Comment #2) : Bob Dorough also wrote "Figure 8." I used to hear her at Reno Sweeney's on 13th St. in the Village back in the 70s. She did the early sets, ending by 7 p.m.
dumb as i am... taught and played for years, and NEVER knew "tea for two" was a love song, until i heard blossom do it. OUTSTANDING!! heard her play with mike once, they were great, even without my guitar. yeh right!!she was awesome.
YAY! When you're a sap like me who's a jazz pianist AND cries when they hear "Figure 8" (schoolhouse rock) cause that's how they learned their multiplication tables, hearing Blossom own a tune like this is oddly full circle, and..so...well... HIP.
How did she leave this earth and I didn't get to hear her live! My loss, but thank goodness for Youtube. I love her voice, it makes me smile. Thanks I'm saving this to my favorites.
The conversation does mislead one to think that "I'm Hip" is her composition (as they talk about her writing at first), but this is not the case. "I'm Hip" is by Dave Frishberg and Bob Dorough.
Sean - Yes, Bob Dorough and Blossom Dearie were good friends. I remember their recording of "Baby it's cold out there." Bob must be in his '80s by now. Great that he's still performing. Thanks for the message. -Peter
The world lost a great jazz singer/pianist in Blossom Dearie when she died in 2009 at her Greenwich Village apartment at age 84. She performed professionally for over 50 years and leaves us many recordings. Thanks for posting! -Peter
@pholzer5 In an email to me recently, Bob dorough wrote, "Sorry about Blossom too. I was at her memorial in NYC and they asked me to sing "I'm Hip." I did." (Yes he DOES answer email)
thanks for uploading this. will you be uploading (or, do you know if anyone already has uploaded) her version of jobim's "wave"?
