  • THE ART OF GETTING .....BY

  • So slack and so so beautiful!!!.

  • What year were they in Cleveland!?

  • fuck coldplay, fuck nickelback

    pavement forever

  • OH Coldplay are such dicks for emulating a band I like. GOSH

AND WORST, they came up with something beautiful all their own.

    Why am I so pretentious?!

  • its ok but a complete rip off of Coldplay's Yellow

  • @jl45000019 Bull shit. Bull fucking shit.

  • @catguyauble It sounds exactly the same, I hope they list coldplay in the credits on the album

  • @jl45000019 Lol troll.

  • @jl45000019 this is from 1992, Yellow is from 2000..get your facts straight, dude

  • Wish I was a Kid and discovering Pavement again for the first time.

  • @patblackwell1 Wish I was a kid when I discovered Pavement :)

  • Comparing Pavement to Coldplay is like comparing getting a blowjob to getting raped.

  • @MEYERS3000 Horrible analogy bro.

  • I like Pavement and Coldplay...

  • just to be a little more clever than - this sounds like Meat Puppets to me ;)

  • Where do people get the "Here" = "Yellow" thing, anyway? I think both songs are good, and I only think they sound vaguely alike.

  • Oh & about the whole Coldplay vs Pavement thing... I dont know why people are comparing them. I like Coldplay, and I like Pavement too. People say Coldplay sucks b/cit's mainstream & not indie. Well first of all, Coldplay does have an indie sound - I have no idea how it even got mainstream or how people who like Bieber also like Coldplay. My conclusion is that whatever plays on the radio, people automatically like - at least people who just listen to mainstream. Either way, both are great bands.

  • I love this song. Lol it's funny, this and Price Yeah! are the only two songs I've heard by Pavement, and they are so totally different. I was not expecting this song to sound like it does after I heard Price Yeah!

  • Oh will everyone shut up with the Pavement vs. Coldplay. Although there is no denying the fact that Pavement shits all over Coldplay, I don't see why everyone is just getting so psycho about it. I'm sure you're bound to find similarities between two different songs, so shut up you fucks.

  • Chris Martin ripped off this song for Yellow. its so clear if you play the chords. A E6 Dmaj7. Pavement are the best though. The greatest band of all time

  • Chris Martin can suck out. Pavement are actually good. The same cannot be said for Shitplay.

  • if coldplay sucks so much then why do your shitty indie band have such few views compared to Chris Martin HUH????????????? yeah thats what i thought

    mainstream music 4 lyf

  • @illsubanyone If you are using Youtube views to determine which musicians are better than others, then you must honestly be mentally retarded. That would be like saying Justin Bieber is better than Coldplay, although the comparison is laughable because both musicians are incredibly overrated, and can't be compared anyways because of their different styles. Each person to their own taste of music, though, but please don't think that you speak for everyone.

  • Just recently started listening to these guys. So far, I love it!

  • ha this is a total coldplay rip-off. fuck this shitty band. they don't even have armbands and they don't even dress circa french revolution. fucking gaylords.

  • @evilsnakes1 Funny! Other way around though. Pavement wrote Here years before Yellow

  • @flowerdoodle

    ummmmmm, yes, i know.

  • @evilsnakes1 ok Tiger, just makin sure. I thought you may have been being facetious

  • coldplay ripped off pavement.

  • comparing coldplay to pavement? thats like comparing lady gaga to bowie. coldplay is sanitized rocknroll. complete garbage in my opinion

  • pavement, um, worship?

  • HAHA COLDPLAY IS GAY AND WIMPY HAHA THIS JOKE IS SO ORIGINAL AND FUNNY

    /sarcasm

  • Coldplay??? fuck whoever brought that up

  • Fuck coldplay. Coldplay is lamer than Stephen Hawking with polio.

  • i can see the coldplay sound in pavement

  • @acdc725 you mean you can see the pavement sound in coldplay

  • @tenaciousE11 u3mmmmmm ok,6 you don'5t know what yo4u are talki8ng about oka3y???? yeah 4i'nm going to5 bed6

  • @acdc725 Not sure if you are trolling, but assuming you aren't, I am saying that coldplay definitely ripped this song off of pavement, which is why you would see the the pavement sound in coldplay, and not the coldplay sound in pavement.

  • This was voted number 42 in a list of The Best 50 Album Tracks (that weren't hits) in The Sunday Telegraph. Anything by Springsteen should automatically make the top 10.

  • Coldplay fuckin suck donkey balls

  • Fuck coldplay. wtf u should be shot in the ears

  • i'll be honest, today was the first day i really sat and listened to pavement.... it's very obvious how they have influenced so many bands... you can hear a little of this in the stuff of weezer, blur (big time), modest mouse, and jeff beck just to name a few!

    Not so sure about Coldplay...

    ??

  • @spence9302

    i def hear modest mouse.

  • Eh, Coldplay is a decent band. They don't really make research for their music but they sound OK. Easy and efficient.

I prefer listenning Coldplay's music than Weezer's music.

But, yeah, actually, Pavement is another world...

  • @wevegotafileonyou New Weezer blows, but early Weezer was 1000x better than Coldplay could hope to be.

  • the fact that anyone is talking about coldplay on a pavement video is disturbing. if its not the talking heads they're stealing concepts from (i.e. warning sign) its every other good alternative band in the 1990s like radiohead and pavement

  • Comment removed

  • how can you even think about using pavement in the same sentence? Except maybe to say: Pavement is a kick ass early 90's garage/indie band and Coldplay sucks mega monkey tits.

  • @TomViolence12 i would've preferred you said donkey tits but ehh. whatever.

  • ahhh memories. thx for post!!

  • i saw pavement live in Chicago two days ago. they played this.

    it was perfect.

    the end.

  • does fake plastic trees has similar sound to this song?

please dont talk if you cant understand that sad indie songs aren't all reworked versions of Pavement sad songs...........

  • Even Malkmus reckons Coldplay have stolen this amazing Pavement song. When they performed this song in Rome, Malkmus instead of singing "not as bas as this" sang "they're yellow", kidding those shitty awkward musicians...

  • ''We're definitely not 'dad rock' like Coldplay.'' Stephen Malkmus (You see, even he thinks they suck!!!!)

  • coldplay and pavement are two completely different bands.... you all need to get over yourselevs you dont know everything about music

  • SO STARK YOURE A SKYSCRAPER!!!!

  • Anyone know a good Pavement bootleg off DimeADozen?

  • I think it has more in common with Radiohead's "Fake Plastic Trees" than anything Coldplay has done.

"And your jokes are always bad... my fake plastic love."

  • @Jethelred

You're right actually, Radiohead may have gotten Fake Plastic Trees out of this, the chords are pretty similar and the melody of FPT sounds pretty close to the verses here. They're huge Pavement fans so I wouldn't be surprised.

  • @Jethelred

Radiohead is way better than Cold Play so they're allowed to do that.

  • seeing them in 3 weeks in berlin!

  • i really think they're both good bands. coldplay is nowhere as near as good as pavement, but I wouldn't say yellow is a rip off of this song either.

  • coldplay could have never even heard this song. the small similarities could be a coinsidence, they really don't sound much alike.

  • @pongrocks12 I'm not exactly sure you could call it out and out stealing, but Coldplay certainly does copy Pavement's sound in Yellow. And let's not forget, Pavement did have quite a following in England, so it is possible Martin has heard their stuff before.

  • well i have no clue im judging by what i heard.

  • Coldplay is a third rate, no talent band, compared to Pavement. Chris Martin couldn't even do what Stephen Malkmus does on his best day. F**k European wannabes!!!! Pavement owns their s**t!!! Everyone else who copies them are just jealous haters who only wish they could be as brilliant. Coldplay blows!!!! Pavement forever!!!

  • Agreed, and i come from england lol

  • @lisaann1213 That vitriol would carry more weight if I didn't hear shades of The Kinks in this...

  • @operaottawa There's a difference between being influenced by a band (Which if you do hear the Kinks in this, then I'm sure that's what spurred Malkmus.) & outright copying because you have NO TALENT (Which is what Coldplay did, HELLO!!!). You're not changing my mind on this one, Coldplay still blows!!! If they blew any worse, the whole of England would disappear in one strong gust. Believe that.

  • coldplay are not in a single way related to pavement, other than they are both bands. someone likes heroine

  • There is NO similarity to the two songs...are you people HIGH?!?

  • This band was out way before coldplay assholes get your facts straight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Now I realize that this song was ripped off by Coldplay. Very similar, both good songs and bands though.

  • @Skellington383 I hope you mean Coldplay ripped them off.

    Fuck Coldplay. They're garbage.

  • @Flea817 I did mean Coldplay ripped off Pavement. Thay what I said, I suggest you read the full comment before commenting!

  • @Skellington383

funny that no one can comprehend the wording of your sentence xD

  • great music video

  • abner jay. abner jay. abner jay.

  • Tindersticks version of this is a marvel.

    anyone heard it?

  • Tindersticks is an amazing band...I'm trying to get rights to Feel The Sun for a film of mine...

  • The first verse is about me...I swear!

  • That's cuz your jokes suck.

  • True!

  • slanted and enchanted rocks, but it is second to wowee zowee

  • nope. other way round.

  • I know thats riight grrl

  • yeah, pavement fucking rocks

  • wonder why you guys hide every comment you dont like

  • ArtIsNotForSale is an obvious troll.

  • lol internetz...i was just listening to Yellow and thought "hmmm....nice song but that reminds me of that pavement song" so i come to look for it and find the usual bitch fest....this music is wasted on us....

  • pavement and coldplay......what the fuck is everyone talking about. stop trying to be clever by drawing influences of different bands to try and sum up how the sound was created.

    load of bollocks.

pavement fucking ruled. coldplay totally different!!!!!!!!!(they dont rule, chris martin is a sun flower weeping his balls out.

dont draw the two bands together!!!!! ahhh!

  • Here here! Just listen to the wonderful music while appreciating it for what it is...wonder.

  • wait. the music itself is wonder? I thought it was I who was committed to wonderment listening to the song.

  • @crabolde man ur totally rite for a start pavement dont wet the bed...

  • @crabolde for a start pavement dont wet the bed...

  • @crabolde You limey brits, coming on here telling us what we should and shouldnt write or make notice of. Youtube is ours. Pavements is great, I agree. I know how you sickly, arrogant, funny talkin british like them so much. They, after all, stole from your bands. U have 2 admit that Yellow and Here do share a striking resemblance, both in tone and structure. Coldplay are not that bad--they may be Dad Rock, but so what. Music is about beauty and feeling. Im tired of the cult of Indie cool.

  • @crabolde Btw, Muse are utter and total shite. They have one good song

  • @flowerdoodle would you say that hysteria is that good song?

  • yeah a bunch of art fag, pavement is pavement !

  • Chris Martin was in a circle jerk with his mates when Pavement wrote this song.

  • lawled

  • "fuck right off" you stupid fucken idiot...this song came out in "89" chris martin was into rick astley you fucken stupid retard

  • Rick Ashley also is a huge influence on Pavement

  • your funny...

  • bet you wish you didn't post that! :)

  • Comment removed

  • great band

  • I've regarded Pavement as the 90's Beach Boys

  • hahahahahahaha

  • @ chillidogdupree

    hahahahahahahahahah

  • then your someone who knows very little about music, how can you compare them too the offspring? are you deaf?

    pavement are awesome

  • Not really. "Fake Plastic Trees" and "Here" don't have the same melody and chord progression.

  • i think they do. go and listen to them both.

  • your wrong go listen to them both!

  • more like "fake plastic trees" sounds like "here". Here came out in 1992, fake plastic trees in 1995.

  • Shut up art fag!!!

  • I once accidentally walked in on two dudes butt-fucking in a port authority bathroom stall, and that was the gayest thing I'd ever seen until I saw Coldplay on SNL as of late...Pavement forever...

  • omg willisprovidence, I fucking lol'd.

  • Coldplay is so gay, they make Tom Cruise look straight.

  • get over yourselves. making fun of coldplay is like adults making fun of children's shows.

the kids like it, so let it be.

  • @WillisProvidence HAHAHA!

  • @WillisProvidence My mind has been forever stained. The butt-fucking part was nasty too.

  • Coldplay ripped the shit outta this one on "Yellow".

  • THE MALKMAN RULES

  • You know how I know you're gay? You listen to...

  • With Coldplay making the shitty, generic music they do I highly doubt they have influences as good as Pavement.

  • I bow down to God (Malkmus).

  • Check out the song New Year's Kiss by Casiotone for the Painfully Alone. Remarkably similar.

  • Who the fuck listens to coldplay?

  • fucknuts & arse candles, that's who

  • Oh that's a bit harsh - they do a lot of work for the soul deaf.

  • @guildnavigator oh you know just people with dicks in their ears

  • @guildnavigator lots of people do.. actually more people listen to coldplay than this band.. pavement is really good though.. and also, you are an idiot.

  • everybody takes inspiration from everywhere .. but to rip off means you take the entire structure and copy it .. just because two songs are similar it doesn't mean it's ripped off each other .. who says chris martin even know this song? Supposebly he does but still .. come on people .. stop always comparing bands and start seeing that there are certain charistics all rock bands have and line they all follow .. the next thing will be that "shiver" is compared to "back for good" by take that !

  • Pavement best band ever! whoooo! GO Malky

  • as a fan of both bands I must agree it does sound similar, but the chord structure to this song is the backbone of a lot of hits and songs over the past 100 years or more

  • if coldplay ripped off pavement, then every pavement song before wowee zowee was a rip off of the fall

  • come one people, coldplay didn't rip this song off. the guitar timbres are somewhat similar and the tempo is the same. but the chords, the chorus, the structure, the melody, everything is different. Don't say something is ripped off just because it "sort of sounds like it".

  • a guitar can only make so many sound people if you think about it every song sounds the same the riff is simialr but nothing big!

  • KT Tunstall hammers on the body of the guitar, so I suppose the guitar as drum ;'].. Then there's air-proofing and tuning to keys.. and plucking methods.. But yea, there are a finite number of chord progressions & riffs - this could be like the kinks or cars had similar, albeit faster styles in some songs.

  • "Yellow" by Coldplay like totally ripped this song off.

  • Explain, please.

  • Nevermind, I just heard "Yellow." I thought Coldplay was cool. : (

  • I agree with you

  • it doesnt sound that similar people!

  • No, totaly different..

This are just some chords that goes from high to lower, lower again.. also in Yellow.. but many, many songs have that.

Some chords on the beat and rhythm bassline and you have this.

So it is not a rippoff just a way to play songs.

  • Nice vid.
