Oh & about the whole Coldplay vs Pavement thing... I dont know why people are comparing them. I like Coldplay, and I like Pavement too. People say Coldplay sucks b/cit's mainstream & not indie. Well first of all, Coldplay does have an indie sound - I have no idea how it even got mainstream or how people who like Bieber also like Coldplay. My conclusion is that whatever plays on the radio, people automatically like - at least people who just listen to mainstream. Either way, both are great bands.
I love this song. Lol it's funny, this and Price Yeah! are the only two songs I've heard by Pavement, and they are so totally different. I was not expecting this song to sound like it does after I heard Price Yeah!
Oh will everyone shut up with the Pavement vs. Coldplay. Although there is no denying the fact that Pavement shits all over Coldplay, I don't see why everyone is just getting so psycho about it. I'm sure you're bound to find similarities between two different songs, so shut up you fucks.
Chris Martin ripped off this song for Yellow. its so clear if you play the chords. A E6 Dmaj7. Pavement are the best though. The greatest band of all time
@illsubanyone If you are using Youtube views to determine which musicians are better than others, then you must honestly be mentally retarded. That would be like saying Justin Bieber is better than Coldplay, although the comparison is laughable because both musicians are incredibly overrated, and can't be compared anyways because of their different styles. Each person to their own taste of music, though, but please don't think that you speak for everyone.
ha this is a total coldplay rip-off. fuck this shitty band. they don't even have armbands and they don't even dress circa french revolution. fucking gaylords.
@acdc725 Not sure if you are trolling, but assuming you aren't, I am saying that coldplay definitely ripped this song off of pavement, which is why you would see the the pavement sound in coldplay, and not the coldplay sound in pavement.
This was voted number 42 in a list of The Best 50 Album Tracks (that weren't hits) in The Sunday Telegraph. Anything by Springsteen should automatically make the top 10.

how can you even think about using pavement in the same sentence? Except maybe to say: Pavement is a kick ass early 90's garage/indie band and Coldplay sucks mega monkey tits.
Even Malkmus reckons Coldplay have stolen this amazing Pavement song. When they performed this song in Rome, Malkmus instead of singing "not as bas as this" sang "they're yellow", kidding those shitty awkward musicians...
You're right actually, Radiohead may have gotten Fake Plastic Trees out of this, the chords are pretty similar and the melody of FPT sounds pretty close to the verses here. They're huge Pavement fans so I wouldn't be surprised.
@pongrocks12 I'm not exactly sure you could call it out and out stealing, but Coldplay certainly does copy Pavement's sound in Yellow. And let's not forget, Pavement did have quite a following in England, so it is possible Martin has heard their stuff before.
Coldplay is a third rate, no talent band, compared to Pavement. Chris Martin couldn't even do what Stephen Malkmus does on his best day. F**k European wannabes!!!! Pavement owns their s**t!!! Everyone else who copies them are just jealous haters who only wish they could be as brilliant. Coldplay blows!!!! Pavement forever!!!
@operaottawa There's a difference between being influenced by a band (Which if you do hear the Kinks in this, then I'm sure that's what spurred Malkmus.) & outright copying because you have NO TALENT (Which is what Coldplay did, HELLO!!!). You're not changing my mind on this one, Coldplay still blows!!! If they blew any worse, the whole of England would disappear in one strong gust. Believe that.
