But FX7 is not shoulder mount right? I am in the market for a shoulder mountable camera and this seems like the best choice so far because I want the option to shoot HDV tape AND shoot 24p HD (720 is fine).
There are 3 recording buttons, one on top on the handle, one on the left side of the body near the power button, and one in the usual spot on the hand grip near the zoom
No, There is a standard tripod screw mount on the bottom, on the silver tripod adapter plate. BUT! keep in mind all the weight will be towards the back.
quick question i know u went with jvc but i see you got Canon in there too, but if u had go with XL H1A, cuz of fully 1080ip real time recording would you change it?
720/24p, 25p, 30p, 50p, and 60p i like but 1080 would been better
I do love the ergonomics of the XL series so that is a tough question. I was originally planning on getting the XL H1, but the price made me reconsider.
XL = $9,000 at time of purchase
HD200 = $5,500 at time of purchase
My next camera will most likely be a RED Scarlet when it comes out. Something about 4k Super HD at 1-150fps makes me happy. For about $3,750 I think it might be worth looking into. Most definitely hidden costs, but still that's how it always is.
haha your exactly like me i sware the only reason im not going for XL h1s price range but XL h1a its around 6999 here in toronto with tax it goes around 8 grand kinda expensive if you think about it.
im looking into jvc for the moment i hate the fact is not 1080p or else would sh..ted on canon price wise. :(
thankyou for the info im start doing some research on "Scarlet", Can You Shoot A Music Video with JVC HD200? quality matters alot
the best model is the 250u. The 100u and the 110u are essentially the same except for the 110 is an update model. The 200u and the 250u are the same camera internally, the only difference is that the 250u has the studio pack (genlock, timecode, remote, etc). Each camera is essentially the same the only difference is that the 100 and 110 can only shoot in 24 and 30 while the 200 and 250 can shoot in 24/30/60 and 25/30/50.
Thanks Josh....Is there anyway of adding timecode if you don't get the 250u?....A program that you can attach the timecode to in post production? If that makes sense at all.
The timecode is always going to be present on the tape and any major NLE system will be able to read and generate timecode. I mistyped timecode lol, the genlock is what I meant by timecode and that is just used for multicamera shoots so that all the cameras have exactly the same timecode on the tape. :)
From BH (one of the most respected professional video stores, and my personal favorite)
Camera $5,400
Batteries NOT included
Be prepared to spend another $1,000 on a battery and charger. I'd recommend the Tandem 70 charger and the Dionic 90 battery. This is the setup I use and it gives me enough power to run for about 4.5 - 5 hours. And the charge slides into the Gold Mount so it can also act as a power supply.
The quality of the microphone is comparable to that of other camcorder microphones. Personally the sound quality is alright for me, but the pick up is a bit low sometimes. Most people regard the microphone as crap, and it may be compared to proper equipment, but as far as other microphones that I've used it is close to some cheaper shot guns mics.
Yes, that's true, there is no auto focus what-so-ever. It's not something you should be too worried about unless you film a lot of sports. I've found that the focus is pretty wide (several feet) when zoomed out and the aperture open. This may not help you, but I believe in buying a camera you can go into if needed, no need buying a camera you can already use to it's fullest. Think of it like any tool, if it has features you may not be able to use correctly at first, no worries. Good luck.
I know the Z1U got the best review for low light footage v. Quality and the A1U is decent all around, but the video (to me) still looks like a home movie since it's interlaced.
I would personally discourage buying any Sony prosumer camcorder. They sacrificed the ease of use to get such a small package. So unless you want to spent ten minutes scrolling through the numerous menus get something with a button for the most used features.

It's the autofocus that's the challenge...there is none. Focus and exposure are all manual so there is a bit more to think about on top of framing, sound, and movement when filming.
It is quite amazing when you figure out how to use it, but it takes A LOT of thought at first to get all of the things that are normally automatic to look just right. Only thing negative I have to say about the camera is that it isn't great in low light. That and the fact that Final Cut Pro 5 doesn't offer HD 24p or 60p, so I am basically stuck at 30p until I can upgrade.
i think for all sony cams including hd ones people go with Sony vegas software, and i did see the specs on the hd110 and i thought it had 3 lux illumination?
It does, but I believe that rating is based on +18db gain...I never increase the gain unless I am just shooting home video. With 0db gain the camera does well at average room light, but truly excels when light is more than needed and is evenly displaced on the target subject.
your right, so that's how they get you, by saying how much illumination the camera has but it's not at 0db's gain! I have a choice between the dvc100 and hvr v1u for my next camera.. they say CMOS chips has more noise than CCD chips, the dvx100 has 3 illumination also, wonder at how much db's.
here in america, one should get the damm thing and try it hard for the 14 days or so that almost everystore allows, and come to their own conclusions, instead of letting other people preferences guide them, therefore regreting many times the outcome.
America allows for trials and refunds, Enjoy that benefit>
DramaKid, if your working in Final Cut Pro in HD don't let 24p sway your decision, HD24p, HD60p, and HD24p(a) are only supported in FCP 6. If you're using any recent Premiere you will have no problems at all.
Some sound would be nice.

we'll out of the hdr and hvr series, the v1u seems the best. 24p, HD, 4 illumination, hdmi, 1080I/p ..
DramaKidStudioz 3 years ago
the V1u it´s not a really 24p. It a trick used by sony.
JVC has a real 24 recording.
supersticion 3 years ago
why isn't it REAL 24p recording, pls explain, because this camera is on my to get list vs. dvx100 and canon xh a1
DramaKidStudioz 3 years ago
because the recording of the camera it´s not a 1080i24 or 1080p24 it is 1080/60i, 480/60i (NTSC).
It´s a digital trick. It is the same that you convert the 1080i60 to 1080i24 o 1080p24 in final cut , premiere or another system of edition.
