If he didn't close it from the inside, the window would've blown up and the whole station would have flooded, plus theres Desmond desperately trying to get to Penny as well, he probably wouldn't have noticed Mikhail outside.

I've just seen this episode and I'm very upset about Charlie's Death.
First of all: How does Mikhail do to survive with a harpoon in his chest? Why don't nobody check his death over and over again?
Why does he detonate a grenade in his hand?
Why doesn't Charlie decode the code wearing a diving equipment before?
Why doesn't Charlie close the gate with him OUTSIDE of that hatch?
Those are some questions. Of course, Charlie had to die in the story but the script seemed unlikely with his death.
