  • 5:40 What is the name of the song?

  • @TheJacksonMaster To Live Is To Die

  • Its to live is to die its on and justice

  • does anyone has the tab or know what song are they playing when james and kirk come in???

    i really love it!

  • thumbs up if you miss jason

  • this gig and gigs between 91-93 are best gigs....between 91-93 gigs still had bass high enough to hear it

  • Jason looks like John Cena xD

  • Jasen Newsted has sonny moores haircut!!!!

  • 0:34 - 1:34 the best minute in my life.

  • @PLTommi

OMG, I hope you are kidding. If that was the best minute of your life, you might want to work on upgrading your life. I mean, it was OK and all, but there are many better minutes than that out there in this world.

  • @Prairiedogma There are also a lot worse ;)

  • I think jason was the best bassist for metallica AFTER cliff's death of course.

  • who plays the bass GEETAR xD

  • *there

  • those four dudes their could move mountains.......not taking anything away from rob.

  • what song is it when kirk and james come in?

  • @rimticketts Master of Puppets \m\

  • @rimticketts isn't it to live is to die?

  • @rimticketts thats 'the frayed ends of sanity'

  • Jason intended this solo to be an instrumental on the black album. It was to be titled My Friend of Misery.

  • rob is good

    jason is better

    cliff is best

    R.I.P.

  • jason is way too serious when he plays when kirk and lars do solos they're so happy and metal but jason isn't fun when he plays. thats good coz he's passionate and all but still

  • ohh Well I knew james hated jason so Ya I can see it, U can tell to on other songs james throwing looks at jason

  • @MrBeerman97, for a long time I believed that The Unforgiven was a heavy-handed metaphor describing Jason's position within the band.

James said that the pain of Cliff's death would influence some of the lyrics. For instance, even though Nothing Else Matters was meant to be about James' girlfriend, some of the lyrics were applicable to how he felt about Cliff...particularly his death (e.g. "Never cared for what they say" could mean not caring for what the police verdict was - black ice).

  • U notice how much space he leaves from jason

  • @MrBeerman97 James took all of his anger out from Cliff's death on Jason. That's why Jason left the band, James treated him like complete shit. That's why he was sitting away from him, James HATED Jason.

  • @xxa411xx, what's even more sad was that Lars hated him the most. He wanted him to leave back in '86 but management said "You chose him, now deal with it."

  • It's kinda cool looking how jason is bald on one side.

  • @obsessedwgaming he is on both side.

  • @TheStackerGH lol Thanks.

Cool dood with a bad ass beat and bass playing skills. I tried my friend's squier fender bass yesterday. I never knew how heavy a bass was until yesterday. That instrument is friggin' heavy.

  • trujillio is a korn ass poser who looks like hes gettin butt raped by a ghost when plays

  • I think Jason is a great guy. and it sucks the way he was treated when he was MetallicA. but in between the legendary Burton and a Trujillio he was defenitly the lesser of the three

  • I wish they would play the whole version of "To live is to Die " sometime

  • this man makes me wanna plat bass and I'm not even a guitar player !

  • @monamOneX Me Too :)

  • Jasons good but hes a bell end, fancy playing in 2 bands at once, pure disrepectful good riddance i say

  • jasen makes the best faces!

  • 6:16 whats this songs name ?

  • @TheBerkinOz To live is to die. Its an original Metallica song, from the album ...And Justice for All

  • Lol at 5:18 they look like they have all been zombified by his guitar sound! Hahaha!

And that is such an epic scene when they are all siting together playing guitar (at like 6:42)

  • Lol at 5:18 they look like they have all been zombified by his guitar sound! Hahaha

  • what effects is he using after 3:10? is that Sustain or Attack/release effect? what pedal is that? Sounds awesome :)

  • @hirsm I think it's like Delay, Reverb and Sound pedal all in one!! Haha! I don't know

  • i fuckin love when james just comes in playing too live is too die

  • whats that song when jason first puts on the distortion, cause it sound like a black sabbath song but idk? could any one tell me what the song is!

  • It does't sound like a bass should sound.

  • I like the solo for when he starts to live is to die :)

  • god i loved jason's bass tone in this concert

  • @javier232 me too. This was one of my favs for bass sound....very thick and heavy!

  • @jaymzb1979 I think it's like delay, reverb and Sound pedal all in one! Haha! I don't know

  • @jaymzb1979 is it something to do with the brand of the bass (alembic elan series 1) or the effects he was using because in the san diego concert his bass sounds completely different (it had series 2 electronics) but in all the other videos i've seen of this tour the bass sounds similar to this

  • In my opinion, Jason is the Best Bass player for Metallica.

But Lars and James didn't let James putted him in a cage.

They never realy accepped him, we all know why but thats not the point

He flew to do what he wants to do. Music!

I think its sad, if you think about it.

  • 3:35 crepping...

  • is the beginning from a song or just a solo?

  • @mojorasta1 in 1991 the used it as a bass intro for the song "My friend of misary"

  • I had orgasm, when Hetfiled start playin'.

  • Comment removed

  • @autoeroticruler I say you listen to alot of gay bands.

  • @jickface lol yeah i actually just found tat on another video, but you're right they are gay its more so for the laugh ya know? does slightly hav a point tho

  • @autoeroticruler all the "rock" bands you just listed are SHIT. horrible. heavy metal blasphemy. if you want a real list for this it goes like this: Metallica, Opeth, Tool, Pantera, Mastodon, Lamb of God, Rage Against the Machine, Meshuggah, Strapping Young Lad, Cannibal Corpse, Alice in Chains. thats more like it

  • @jkjl234 ugh i actually regret doing this now, i just copied nd pasted it myself ya fool! and yes i know the rock bands are pretty shit, i just hope ur not the first of many repys, in fact i might delete the comment if thats the case, cos this is just gonna get annoying. thanks for the reply tho

  • @autoeroticruler haha yeah i gotcha. i didn't mean to sound like an asshole.

  • the delay solo gave me a chill... it reminds me to a horror movie intro xD

  • What effect pedals does Jason use in this video?

  • what bass effect peddal is he using?

  • I kinda hate James and Lars for abusing Jason at the first place and not let him write more. fuckin control freaks.

  • τι είναι το όνομα του σόλο στην αρχή και στις 3:18?

  • I wonder why they go in to "To Live Is To Die"?

    Meh, it's a very nice touch :)

  • Tabs for the solo?

  • scary 3:18 - 5:10 O_o

  • RIP cliff.

you are forever in are hearts!

  • Look at that awesome legwear Jason's wearing!

    X-D

    :-D

    We miss you Jason!!!

  • Who's on the shirt that Jason's wearing?

  • Johnny Cash and Elvis

  • @schumifriend1 can you buy that shirt?

  • @njdevils16 I don't know, maybe.

  • I think the BEST bassist was Cliff, but my own personal FAVOURITE is Jason...Robert is simply awesome with the finger-plucking moves though!

    :-D

  • Jason- easily the best bassist Metallica has had. I'm sorry to you Metallifanboy retards, but Cliff just copied guitars all the time. I've heard the isolated bass tracks. Jason is more technically skilled than Cliff. This bass solo is better than Cliff's solos, sorry. Cliff was hands down the best composer and songwriter though.

  • @TorrentialBand

    End of line!

  • @TorrentialBand you're retarded. all those harmonies and such you hear from Ride the Lighting and Master was all CLiff, because CLiff TAUGHT THEM how to do it. out of the entire band, Cliff was the only true MUSICIAN in that band. Jason is good...but better then Burton? Nowhere near him.

  • @TorrentialBand your stupid dude you dont know no shit . Cliffs was god and jason just a fill in. That solo sounding like a blob of SHIT!

  • @TorrentialBand I can make a solo like that with two caseses of beer. iIf you think thats lalent yior the retard

  • that was an awesome solo

end was a little sad still

    RIP Cliff Burton

  • the end is the best

  • Why can't you guys just shut up about Rob. Trujilo, he is best on the bass, Jason is best on the backup vocals, and Cliff was best with the music( making song and music). You guys all think Cliff was a God, while you still haven't heard him. So don't come hear and say that Rob. Trujilo is a joke!

  • I like both Rob and Jason, but I think Cliff's a god

  • i should shave the side of my head too my hairs long but other then that its normal

  • Just love it when james and kirk come and assist jason on the solo. :D

  • that riff could have been put to fantastic use on justice/black album. what a shame.

  • fucking awsome.

  • the last solo its beautiful

  • It's a little bit of the song: "To Live is to Die".

  • That's the very next track in this gig...Don't you just love this tour?!

    :-D

  • the middle of the solo scared me shitless

  • does anyone know what jason's equipment diring these shows was. I can see that he's using alembic and wal basses. And ampeg amps. But what else? I mean effects and preaamps and stuff.

  • Jason in this years was the backbone of Metallica. So sad he left and never had the ability to be creative in Metallica. He could have done so much more ... more like this heavy shit. This almost is like Cliff in an easy style.

  • well, this is harder then cliff\s stuff. cliff was just "shreding" the instrument. and using alot of wah and disortion, so that made it sound more heavy lets say. +1 for newsted

  • you cant compare jason and cliff.they play two different styles.yea cliff used alot of effects but he knew what he was doing.he wasnt just "shredding".they were actual solos.cliff played bass like a guitar without a pick.jason plays bass like a bass from hell.his style had 2 faces.the beautiful deep side.then the fucking evil, creepy, harsh horror side.

  • @nyhardcore18

you are damn right about both cliff and jason, but i do like the "evil side of jason", maybe becouse i'm similar to him like in style of playing, music. it happens, you know.

and i just get bored reading in every post that "rip cliff" and "burton is the best, everyon else sux" and so on. you get my point right? cheers

  • the first solo is very beautiful

  • the middle of the solo is spooky lol

  • awful very poor poor ok good very good excellent cliff: excellent+ jason: excellent- rob: very good+ it was very cruel on jason to play To Live Is To Die right after the bass solo
  • Rob is up there on the excellent+

Have you seen his performance of For Whom The Bell Tolls at Big Day Out in 2004? Best performance of that song since Cliff passed.

  • rob is a fucking joke, hes riding on the fact that he plays like cliff.jason established himself without the hype.jason has his own style.rob is just a cliff wanna be

  • Wow...have you ever listened to anything from Suicidal Tendencies for Infectious Grooves? Rob was the absolute master their. He even brings his own style to Metallica. All three bassists are virtually un-comparable though, they're all too different to be compared.

  • @Darthjacob22 Couldn't have put it any other way!

  • @Darthjacob22 idk man, jason and cliff were virtually in the same genre as bass players, thrash, speed w/e. rob is a funk metal/crossover thrash guy, so yea its hard to compare them all for the same mold, as metallica's bassist

  • @Darthjacob22 if only everybody could get that through their heads

  • @nyhardcore18 - You are fucking retarded if you are saying that because they are both fingerpicking, and jason is using a pick? Lol... Rob has a very unique style, aswell as Cliff burton, so just stfu about it alrdy.... Robert trujillo is a great bass player

  • hell no dude, have you seen rob's influences, he comes from a completely different background, funk influenced, he plays slap and his finger plucking style is much cleaner but with the same attack/aggressive type sound. He's actually surpassed cliff really, but if cliff was alive it would be different. but i agree with you on jason's style being great and unique.

  • This is why I consider Jason to be better than Rob. He was very experimental, just like Cliff was. Rob is more of a funk player. He just doesn't fit in with Metallica.

  • jason is a god !!!!

  • 3:20 how he can get that sound? please answer me!!

  • delay, distortion, wah-wah, and a shit load of echo

  • what is echo? :D

  • @feverhood delay. echo is dutch

  • Don't forget a pick! with fingers it would sound a lot more mellow and round.

  • i dont give a shit man

    rob is good

    jason is better

    cliff is best

    R.I.P.

  • Fucking true!

  • why is cliff the best?

  • @KillThemAll559 nothing but the truth

  • @KillThemAll559

    No, its:

    Cliff = speed

    Jason = soul

    Rob = skill

  • Love how they went straight from To Live is to die into Master. <3

  • 5:45

just one of those parts of a song that u wanna feel sad aboutand kinda cry

same as in Orioncall of Ktulu, the ending where its all nice

u know, the part that "says" the end w/ the beutiful ending. then suddenly, ?(question mark) cuz of the hole drumm thing @ the end

  • jason's solos were great, they were also intense as a muthafucka.the to live is to die part at 5:46 was pretty heart felt and had me kinda choked up.

  • 5:46 - 7:48 makes me wanna cry. RIP Cliff Burton

  • 0:59-1:01 is the best part, I think. Amazingly played!!!

  • by the way, could anyone tell what bass is he using?

  • alembic essence 5 string

  • i still think jason were, is, and will be the best bassist for metallica. after him, i would pick trujillo. you can call me a faggot but i'm not changing my oppinion. go jason!

  • Can anyonw tell me what effects Jason is using at the beginning? i.e. from 00:37 - 1:30?

    Thanks

  • it sounds just like a distortion and wah pedal but not actually using the wah if you get me?

like for whom the bell tolls but not moving the wah

  • Thanks, man, good thing I have both (y)

  • I'm Masturbating to this!!

  • 5:45 .... just wow

  • Awesome solo but... from 6.18 and on it was FUCKIN PERFECT!!!!!!

    Go JAson!!!!!

    MetallicA RuleZ!!

  • wow

my respect for Newstead has just gone WAY UP :)

this is pure gold right here

  • does anyone know what the shirt jason is wearing?

  • 5:46 - 7:49

    R.I.P Cliff Burton

    : (

  • That's not Jason.Cliff possessed Jason and played bass through Jason's body but used a pick so that he doesn't reveal himself.

    lolwat

  • could jason of played pulling teeth of kill em all, that would of rocked...but this is still kick ass

  • Even if he could they wouldnt have allowed him since you know Anesthesia is Cliffs Trademark solo

  • Now That Is A Bass Solo Hellyeah Freaking Creepy sounding!!

  • RIP Cliff and Jason ur also missed :'(

  • Comment removed

  • 5:46 is the best patr

  • Yeah that part is pretty cool

  • experimental metal bass sound

  • where does jason get those sweat band things?

  • In all seriousness I think they're black tube socks he made into arm bands. James Hetfield did the same thing. I don't think Hot Topic was around back then lol

  • Haha, i love playing solos like that... its so fun to make scary sounds with a bass. Inspires my bands black and scary music :o but it's more like a "effect jam", what he does, not a solo :o

  • bass solo ftw!

  • jason is a beast..too bad james was a douche

  • that beggining riff is great

  • I love the beginning also it's so nice

  • it's a shame that he left Metallica. They shouldn't have treated him so badly. They are missing a great bassist, I'm not calling Trujillo bad I'm just saying I think Newsted fits better with Metallica than Trujillo

  • I liked Newsted, but I think Trujillo has more input into what the band writes, whereas Newsted wrote very little. But I think everyone agrees that no one could possibly replace Cliff. He was the greatest bassist Metallica ever had.

  • definately

  • the reason newsted wrote little is because james lars and kirk wouldn't let him write a lot

  • yeah they bullied him a bit. not you know, gimme ur lunch money bully, but you get my point

  • AWESOME bass solo! I bet Jason played this in memory of Cliff Burton!

  • so did jason and kirk

  • I wish I could play the part at 3:18

But I play guitar, not bass

  • you could probally find a efects preocessor that does this

  • he use alembic elan bass guitar.

  • 3:18 Bazzar!!

  • thats awesome when the whole band joins in for the soloing. great.

  • true...really touching moment...
