@MrBeerman97, for a long time I believed that The Unforgiven was a heavy-handed metaphor describing Jason's position within the band.

James said that the pain of Cliff's death would influence some of the lyrics. For instance, even though Nothing Else Matters was meant to be about James' girlfriend, some of the lyrics were applicable to how he felt about Cliff...particularly his death (e.g. "Never cared for what they say" could mean not caring for what the police verdict was - black ice).
