Those aircraft land faster than anything I've ever flown! Most scary bit - the roll in formation. I don't see how they could keep each other in sight. Even though it's only for a second, you can still wobble while you're doing it.
The aircrew worked out that they could enhance the roll rate if they removed one of the fuses limiting the ailerons movement, it worked a treat. The engineering manager went ballistic and told them to put them back in immediately, they did so, but later admitted that they had put blown fuses into the aircraft just to shut him up - and that is why the gnat rolls so fast.
@AdrianNtart Ernie Jones, who flew with the team in this sequence as Red 7, reckoned the Gnat was like an MG Midget sports car. He said it was like having the aircraft strapped to your back. Having seen the Gnat up close on several occasions I can only agree!
