Thats because the heads on that old green junk all turn clockwise unlike the FAR superior Case machine that the heads turn opposite of each other! Ive asked these producers and custom pickers in Va for years why they buy that green junk!
Who says the Case has to STOP at sun down??? I've been working cotton harvest last three years. Using older Case/IH picker, we can run just as late after sunset as the harvesters using a john Deere picker. Only difference is the fields WE pick look CLEANLY PICKED after we harvested. Those local fields picked with John Deere pickers look like we could probably pick that SAME FIELD a SECOND TIME and get AT LEAST another 30% of cotton picked from the field AFTER the JD picker was DONE!!!
My stepmother along with heer 8 brothers and sisters actually did pick cotton by hand before they went to shcool and after school during the season. She had a unbelievable good work ethic. Passed away a few years ago and I passed the stories onto my kids. She told me their biggest treat was when there Dad brought home fresh fruit from the market. Her Mom made her a couple of dresses out of the fancy corn or cotton (can't remember sacks)
Forgot to say they were poor and the dad could not afford the big equipment. This was in the early 40's. I guess Im pretty proud of her. Oh God Bless America..
