What you are trying to do is called a sonic rise. It's a good place to start, but you will generally want to start with a "pen" which kinda long, and which has evenly distributed weight towards the ends. You can make this yourself(I'm sure it'll be easy for you), you just add like tape, rubber bands and eraser caps to both ends of a regular pencil. If you want to learn more, search for "pen spinning" on Google and Youtube.Thumbaround is a cool beginner trick. Penwish do com got nice pens for it.

The thing you tried to do in the beginning is called a 'charge'. The only pen trick I ever learned was the thumb spin, and it took like 3 weeks of pens on the floor and me frustrated, but it was worth it. It's cooler than the charge, too, IMO

I can't do handy things other than crack the joints in my hands a ridiculous amount. I however can tell time like you can by feel. When I lived in Chicago a lot of light shined into my apartment. So over the course of many months when I woke up I would be able to look at the amount of light shining in and be able to tell myself what the closest hour was. If it was 11:45 I would say Noon. I nailed it every time. Before I moved out I was starting to nail the time down to half hours.

1.Personally, I learned how to twirl a broom between my fingers and then years later tried it with a pen and it was fairly easy. I suggest you find a broom or something similar in size and weight to learn.

A friend of mine had a trick he could do with his fingers, that he often showed us. Not that anyone would look at it voluntarily. I'm not a squeamish person but my fingers hurt just from watching.

If there's not a lot to do thanks to lack of internet and such, here's a few things you can do:

1. Go for long walks in nature. Good for ya and there's usually plenty to see.

2. Read a good book, or several (I'm currently working on the Dresden Files series).

3. Combine! Walk for a few hours, find a comfy spot to sit (maybe with a nice view), read for a few hours then go home. Rince and repeat. New spot every time. :)

Oh, man what a day to be at my moms house where I don't have a webcam. I am pretty good at astrojax, which is a skill toy that is kind of looks like a cross between a yoyo and juggling. I haven't put up a video yet, but there are some pretty amazing ones here on youtube if your curious what it is. I also dabble in lock picking.
