  • Thanks for the video. I didn't really like my Ontario AFSK because of the rounded handle. Never thought of sanding the handle down like you did. I'm going to try that as well as removing part of the guard like you did. It was my least favorite fixed blade, lets see it I like it any more after the modifications.

  • The leather is a series of washers mounted on the tang, if it is like the kabars I have owned. So it should not unravel. Wako you should oil that handle. You should retain all the traction, but the leather will last longer. We use a product called mink oil in the USA. I don't know the Japanese analog. Mineral oil would work well, as would any vegetable oil that would not go rancid.

  • @flyflung I have mink oil here for leather care. Thanks.

  • That leather will likely unravel because of the sanding.

  • @jambiyaSlaughter unravel? its stacked, not wrapped

  • That MK1 looks like a miniature Recon Scout, made famous by nutnfancy

  • Nice mods, interesting that they cut wood the same. Thanks for the vid Wako.

  • Very practical and versatile semi-custom knife. Love it Wako!

  • Amazing love those knives , good job

  • Your knuckle looks like it healed up nicely too! That was a nasty cut! Great job on yourself Doctor! excellent

  • Thanks for showing this knife and sheath. Seen it in your previous video. Nice mods!

  • Great mod!

  • Thanks for another excellent video, those are some really good mods. I'm going to have to try a few of them out on my own knife

  • Great Video. I have an AFSK. I am going to make the same modifications. Yours came out very nice. I hope mine comes out the same. I like lowering the metal guard on the top. It looks a lot better and I think it will function better in most cutting situations.

I really enjoy all your videos. They are useful and informative. Keep them coming. Thank you.

  • it looked to me that while they bit in to the same depth, there was less resistance with the usn mk1. is this true?

  • @27dcx It's true. I didn't expect the flat bevel knife would outperform the Scandi bevel knife in wood biting. I think the USN Mk1 is good for bushcraft as well as for hunting. Thanks.

  • @virtuovice Is it possible that the similarity of the wood biting was due to both knives having a convex bevel, regardless of the shape of the sides of the blades?

  • @traderjoes Your opinion can be true. And the Mk1 handle is much thicker and easy to take my hand power. Thanks.

  • I got my piolots knife when I was 13 and its still going strong after 19 years later . It is a treasure to me allso . I allso use a buck 110 thats about 10 years old . Cut up a lot of deer with them . Love your vids brother

  • its funny how his favorite knife is the cheapest

  • cool my friend

  • "It's my treasure." You are not a knife snob!

I think I will do a similar handle mod on my old USMC knife, I never really liked its round cross-section.

Thank you for all the videos!

  • Mac has put the same mods on his pilots knife handle and it indeed improved the grip on it alot! Good job there brother!

  • The ka-bar mark 1 also comes with a kraton handle, I wonder how that compares to the leather handle. I would imagine it has more traction when wet, and would be more durable as well.
