HOW CAN THAT BE A GREAT HORSE...WHEN A MAGNIFICANT STEED IS ON THE FLOOR LIFTING HIS HEAD UNABLE TO RAISE...MIGHT BE A GREAT RACE TO YOU, BUT NOT FOR ME
Carryonharry - why oh why did he have to fall at the first?
actually maybe it was a good thing - that way he stayed local to me :) he's 17 now the old boy, 18 in 2011. he was still winning this spring! he might be retired now, im not sure. but he almost always turns up at the local point-to-points each spring/summer and puts the horses half his age under pressure!
apart from being one of most exciting nationls in yrs, was on this 25/1 - came like a bloody train and kept gettin mullered by loose horses, so this race doesnt get repeated enough for me or the credit it deserved
Ad Hoc going easily under a typical Paul Carberry hold up ride when brought down by Davids Lad 4 out. A fair way to go but would surely of been in the first three. Another National that got away for me!
i can totally echo that. also had ad hoc and felt he would have def been placed. also backed beau in 2001 when he got tangled up in his reins when not many runners left. then there was clan royal whos rider dropped the whip in 2004 after the last and almost went the wrong way. then the next year i backed him again when a loose horse stopped him in his tracks (although i doubt he would have beaten the impressive hedghunter)
however ad hoc, for me, was always the unluckiest of all the above.
this was my favourite Grand National- i had just turned 9 when this race ran, and i chose Bindaree becuase he looked like me "dream horse" haha! chestnut with a blaze! i put my first Grand National bet on him and was sooooo happy when he won- the next day i collected magasines and newspapers and cut all his pictures out and stuck them in my room =) x
