I made something similar, a friend's uploading the video of it right now.

some expensive stuff on that by the looks of it, though. I got my brake and steering system from scrap cars, if you find a small car with rear discs you can just bolt the caliper on standard kart disc and use the cable operated handbrake system. A few extra kilograms, but worth it as i picked up my whole brake system for less than £10. if you live by a scrap yard thats the best place for bits

Torque Converters and cvt's are 2 different things, Torque converters are used on automatic cars while a cvt is a whole different transmission type

@1998mustangify The bigger the tire in the back the faster the top speed will be, but you will sacrifice acceleration and the ability to pull up hills. He was thinking right. It is not fun to drive a gokart that takes a long time to get up to speed.

@X19710 Something so small like a go kart wouldnt hold 4 car batteries, I can tell you right now that motor would stall, And On the lighter Li Po batteries, I wouldnt want one of those to such a heat source like an engine. They have a tendency to spontaneously and violently combust.

@elementalwiz instead of using a washing machine motor perhaps try 2 use a electric scooter motor, they usually run on 12 or 24 dc volts and the batteries dont weigh too much since you only need about 10 amps

@robertsonak01 if your gonna use that you need to check what size the engine is first, usually you'd be alright with a 50-55cc engine..with a go kart it should get you up to around 30-40kmh

@elementalwiz the only problem is washing machines are designed for ac and usually 240v (often more for industrial machines). if you're going to build a electric go kart i would recommend, an etek motor (about £350 new). you would also need a large amount of power to power this motor so either 4, large car batteries (£300 ish) which would add large amount of weight or you could spend £1000+ on lithium polymer packs which would weigh alot less than lead acid batteries. character limit exceeded:(

@jraymj a horizontal shaft is best the way you tell is if the crank shaft Is sticking out the side then it's horizontal if the crank is sticking out the bottom then it's vertical so get a horizontal a vertical is to hard to connect so I hope this helps

@brendonv101 - I think what he meant was if he needed something to take a vertical shaft engines power and transfer it to a horizontal plane. You can convert vertical shaft engines to horizontal by fabricating an oil slinger that a normal horizontal engine uses and a manifold for the carb to rotate it 90 degrees.
