I used to love Letterman back in the 80s on NBC and remember whenever Leno was on it was always a good show. These guys genuinely liked each other and had a great rapport back then. Leno was a staple on Letterman in the early 80's. This is the exposure that probably got himthe permanent guest host spot on the Tonight Show in '86.

Jay was great back in the 80's. Too bad when he took over the Tonight Show, it corrupted him and he just gave up on being funny. I'm afraid he showed his true colors during this whole NBC switch-up mess.

I remember Leno coming on Letterman back in the '80s. Lenos carreer had totally stalled and his guest appearances on Letterman totally kick started his career again. Especially 'whats your beef'.
