This is madness! The technology is going far away from our hands! What's next? A cordless phone which can be used in any place, with a photo camera on it!? MADNESS
This seems to be a different game from the Atari arcade game, but closer to the X-Wing game for the PC. Not played it, so I could be wrong. It looks mighty impressive though.
Definitely the latter. Most Amiga ports could have been much, much closer to the original versions if their developers hadn't been so incompetent and lazy.
@JasonLee215 the X68000 and Amiga are actually nearly identical in hardware, iirc the only difference is that the X68000 has FM Synthesis and slightly better video hardware.
The X68000 is far from "nearly identical in hardware" to the Amiga; in fact, even the ST is a closer match. Then again, trying to find something even remotely like the Amiga is a considerable challenge, if only because the Amiga's one of the oddest computer designs ever. And calling the X68000's graphics "slightly better" than the Amiga's is a bit like calling the PS3's graphics "slightly better" than the Wii's.
The X68000 IS a computer. It, the Amiga, and the ST all use the same Motorola 68000 processor. So did the Genesis, Neo Geo, and Jaguar consoles. But the CPU has nothing to do with the graphics, sound, memory, or anything else that actually distinguishes the machines, and those aspects are radically different in each.
No kidding. You have Commodore to thank for that - the Amiga's original designers came up with several replacements that would have beaten the pants off of the Genesis, and even the X68000, but the idiots running the company nixed them all. (One canceled design would have had power comparable to the PlayStation 1 in 1992!)
So, yeah, OF COURSE hardware unchanged from the original 1984 design is going to be inferior to hardware from 1988.
Oh, and the ST failed just as hard as the Amiga in the face of the PC's ubiquity. Heck, it's a wonder that even Apple managed to stay in business through the '90s.
Both the CD32 and the Jaguar were colossal failures, and that reliability "statistic" is meaningless when the reason for the Amiga's failure was Commodore's brain-dead refusal to market or update the thing.
And what are you getting at with this? Honestly, what are you trying to tell me? Trolling?
Honestly, you're like a little brat poking a dog with a stick - you don't actually care one way or another about this whole thing; you just like being an ass.
Only four bitplanes. 9-bit palette No hardware sprites or scrolling. Garbage square-wave sound chip from 1978. Internal speaker. No multitasking.
The Amiga had six bitplanes, a 12-bit palette, hardware sprites and scrolling augmented by the copper and blitter, an 8-bit sample-based sound chip, multitasking, and more crazy hardware tricks than you can shake a stick at.
So, yeah, I know about computer hardware. Sorry for the bad news.
Any versions of Frontier:Elite II on the x68k or anything else better 3D than this crap(sorry).
Is there any real demoscene going on the X68000? I mean look at Amiga prods on OCS they are billion times better even in 80-90s. You should be able to do magic with chunky-graphics on the x68000, or was there some kind of bus slowness going on because of the chips like on the Macintosh?
The sound is horrible compared to Amiga and no blitting(\o/) but still come on 68k should do better... *fix*
"The X68000 is many ways similar to the Amiga/ATARI-ST. 68000 based series of personal computers."
Because they use the Motorola 68000? Apart from that, I can't find ANY similarities. The sound chips all use completely different methods of sound generation (with the Amiga sounding best and the X68k having the most channels), and the graphics really can't be compared. The ST is a lame home computer, the Amiga is an awesome home computer, and the X68k is an arcade machine in a computer case.
amiga would be completely outclassed by sharp x68000,it had seame parts as a capcom arcade machine.nothing could touch it for years it had best arcade ports which were identical
Amiga was built with a specific budget in mind resulting in a much cheaper system with less features than the x68000. But for the price, you couldn't beat the Amiga for what it could do.

Monochrome wireframe with noisy digital sound and cheesy music? Are you freakin' kidding me? My $129 Commodore 64 can produce better graphics and sound. Obviously, you guyz never saw any Amiga demos...
Um, have you seen the Amiga version of this game? Much worse.
Comparing ports of a 1983 vector based arcade game isn't exactly any measurement of what either of the systems can do. And I say this as an Amiga freak.
It's amazing! He captures that "in the cracks" swing feel from the original. This is a very good sound paradigm. Back then, games were simple enough that 1ch digital was good enough :) and if not, you could always throw the less realistic effects onto the FM.
That FM has a nice sound though! What a great machine. The rendering of the 3d is really nice for a computer this old

i am quite impressed. i love vector graphics. i wish they would use it more in indie games rather than pixels.

Here's why the ST is lame:

The Amiga had six bitplanes, a 12-bit palette, hardware sprites and scrolling augmented by the copper and blitter, an 8-bit sample-based sound chip, multitasking, and more crazy hardware tricks than you can shake a stick at.
