I took my little sister and cousin to HB back in the 80's. I think if the park would have been closer to the center of Houston it would have been more successful.
@ApacheMan2K Oh wait, nevermind. Actually, I'm surprised it was right here in Houston! Nowadays, according to the Wikipedia article, it is SplashTown USA, located in Conroe.
Wow I cant believe HB had the balls to run theme parks. Looking back it seems so dam cheesy. Really a theme park that pays tribute to some of the worst drawn worst written and worst animated crap toons from the "Dark ages of animation" 1966-1987 The dismantling of the Taft Broadcasting company then owners of HB in 1987 was good for animation and helped usher out the HB crap.
@craftruth2009 Mostly because the animation looked rushed, especially when they started using computers, which was rather primitive back in those days.
@craftruth2009 Yep...the ushered out the "HB crap" as you call it and left us with...Pokemon, Yugi oh, and a lot of VERY forgettable stuff. From where I stand most of the really memorable stuff produced in the last 20 years is STILL associated with HB--by way of TIME WARNER (the DC Universe stuff, in particular). A lot of the HB crap from the period you described was bad, but a lot of also has tremendous staying power: Scooby Doo is still going strong after all these years.
I WILL 100% Agree with you. Because the swirling star has always been the one PREVAILING identity of Hanna-Barbera, the one that I`ve always known growing up and always will know as .. Hanna-Barbera.
Look at how far Disneyland and Walt Disney World went with Mickey, and their castles.
If Hanna-Barbera Land would have done the SAME thing with their swirling star symbol, I will go as far to say that Hanna-Barbera Land would still be here TODAY.
I am a diehard Fan of Disney. Always have been, always will be. But, If Hanna-Barbera Land is such a rip off of Disneyland, then what does that make places like Universal Studios Theme Park, Six Flags, Paramount's King's Island, What does that make all of these OTHER theme parks?
They need to Bring Hanna Barbera Land back! They ruined it when they updated it... and they should have kept Scooby Doo.... that was a big thing! And Everyone still loves Scooby!
I always wondered did any more these parks existed other than the one in Spring at the time and why did it close down and eventually became Splashtown?
Remember the "withches pots"? 1st ride I ever threw up on.

Would have hated to have been the guy in the top heavy Smurf costume on the very small railed rollercoaster.

1) $1.50 off? Must've been SOME ticket.
2) I bet it would've been part of Islands of Adventure if it had lasted.

My 2nd cousins (older than I am) used to go to that park all the time.

I remember going there when I was a kid back then. IIRC, it was featured in an issue of Texas Monthly around the time the park was in business.

If this place was still around, they would have characters like Powerpuff Girls, Ben 10, Chowder, Flapjack, and other newer characters.
