That's why I like John... People screamed to stick with the bluesy stuff, and he basically said that it was still there, but that's not the music playing in his head at the moment... That's what makes a true artist for me... The guy follows the music and plays to it rather than to the public now. This album (like all the others) will be different and awesome.

Young and Dylan are both phenominal, but I didn;t see john as one of them. I kinda liked battle studies despite its bad reviews. Its weird what hes doing I think now... its like hes freaked out dropped everything and then started again... There are already people that have been doing this sound successfully in modern music. I dont really get it... most artists start off as simple acoustic singing then end up building into a whole band toward the mid-range of their career... I just dont get the direction john is going in. I think he should have just gone back to the Trio more blues stuff. Its like hes got so far then just thought hold on I want to drop all my fans and start again as a Neil Young / Bob Dylan act. I thought he already did hes acoustic side on Room for Squares... This is a lovely song. The last verse referring to his parents' divorce is particularly poignant. As a fan who has travelled FAR to 7 JM concerts, I hope to see more of the Dylan-esque folk Mayer on the upcoming album. These new songs made me pick up my own guitar again for local open-mic nights. Can't wait for the new Album. Hope the throat/voice issue gets better soon :)

Born and Raised is like that point in life where you are fully an adult living and adult life; sort of like hitting 40, there is no more clinging to the kid or the kid like lifestyle that you still do in your 20s and 30s and the point where the things you wanted to do get pushed to the side for reality. "i still have dreams but they dont fly as high as they used to" definitely a song about the places in life.
