  • 661 people don't know shit about good drumming

  • kids phenominal when he wants to be, and just a fun little game to play

how many old band references can you spot or hear?

    king diamond shirt

    raining blood

    randy rhoads polka dots

    Fuck Yes

  • @RebelOnAWarpath so it was raining blood? :D i wasnt sure

  • FUCK YES KING DIAMOND SHIRT!!!! AHAHAHAH!!!!!

  • This is Capillarian Crest

  • 0:40 The Fun Part

  • KING DIAMOND! Danish cult-metal <3

  • 0:24slayer

    haha

  • 0:24

    haha raining blood by SLAYER

  • This isn't Bang A Gong... I've been duped.

  • I suspect Mastodon is a very professional band, some of their songs are very well arranged and honestly I think they must have "fleshed out" and used some music theory when arranging songs like Joseph Merrick off of Leviathan. So in other words this drummer is probably pretty good (just like in any professional metal band).

  • @COOLBIAN57 You've heard Cracke the Skye, right?

  • is forrest griffin the producer? :34

  • @jontheliar LOL no it's his little brother

  • The beginning of this song definitely has a "Raining Blood" feel

  • The thing is, fair enough, what he's playing isn't technically that difficult, but it's more the fact that it's an original piece, for a song. Not a solo, or just jam ideas, an actual song. Factor that into your brains, people. Not saying he's the best drummer alive or whatever (Haake still holds that, IMO) but anyone who says he ain't very good is just trolling. He's clearly of a very high standard, much better than what most of us can replicate. So please, STFU and enjoy.

  • @BrownBreadToast

Uhh, that's definitely the song Capillarian Crest.

  • @HappyFunAdventureTim

    I know. I said it's an original piece for a song. :)

  • @BrownBreadToast How can you say that this isn't difficult? Anyone that uses "isn't technically that difficult" is retarded!

  • they need more albums where he does falsettos, i love his falsettos

  • Esse cara toca Muuuuuuuuuuito!

  • It's not a drum solo, it's the track for Capillarian Crest.. which makes it even more ridiculous!

  • coolest shirt ever!!!!!!!!!!

  • he's not very good...

  • @MrPlantyboobs Are you high?

  • @MetalPoster nope, such an overrated drummer. but i think it takes a drummer to recognise that. Everything he's playing there, although it looks quite good, is actually pretty simple.

  • @MrPlantyboobs I don't think you're a drummer then.

  • @MrPlantyboobs fuck off, im a drummer and what he's playing is actually bloody hard, id like to see u do it.

  • @MrPlantyboobs Its simple, but its a song. And any musician knows that when you play a song, you are not showing your full potential. I bet if you had him do his own solo, he could get a lot more creative. Still better than travis...

  • @DahPurpleHippo i know what your mean but im just saying, judging from this performance, i wouldnt say he was very good.

  • @MrPlantyboobs Uh....what?

  • @MrPlantyboobs Really dude? Terrible judgement if you ask me.

  • @MrPlantyboobs uh... are you stupid or something?

  • CAPILLARIAN, GONE AWAY.

  • well he is very fast, and a good drummer indeed, but certainly not the best.

  • Where do people get the idea Travis Barker is the best drummer in the world???

  • @shauny1408 when they know nothing about music

  • @kawridr6 Lollloololololool

  • @shauny1408 Travis Barker?! lol...Brann shits all over him.

  • @squeezeslemons I know. Hes pretty awesome. First thing I noticed when I listened to Mastodon was the insane drumming :)

  • Drum Solo? That sounded like an average Brann Dailor beat (which is beyond a "Drum Solo" for most) :P

  • @EtannikufesiN indeed, it was the track to capillarian crest

  • KING DIAMOND!!!!

  • The only man alive that can play rhythm on a drum kit.

  • BA-DA- BUHDEHLA-BUHDEHLA --- BA-DA- BUHDEHLA BUHDEHLA

  • "that was me the whole time! no one knew it!" xD xD

  • Nice King shirt lol

  • i get lactic acid when i try to play like dailor.. :(

  • I cummed.

  • I WANT HIS FUCKING MASK!!!

  • @Loewra827 While i agree on the similarity of Sabian and Zildjian, Meinl and Paiste are completely unique

  • @deftones720 Zildjian are shit and brittle unless your playing jazz!, Sabian, Meinl and Paiste are for the hard hitters.

  • @85Aheadstix ... Wow, you really don't know what you're talking about, do you.

Also, nice King Diamond shirt, Brann.

  • @85Aheadstix Zildjian are pretty brittle,k but the sound definantly isnt shit

  • capillarian crest <3

  • wow he must really hate his endorsements!!! Pearl drumkit, excluding the tama floor tom. A different brand hi hat stand, dw9000 pedals, dw stands, its like, come on, he's endorsing companies for all the wrong reasons.

  • @ShittyMcPoopyBalls Blood Mountain was years ago

  • @deftones720 yeah I know, but like...seriously.

  • @ShittyMcPoopyBalls yeah, he probably didnt have the endorsements then, cuz obviously all the things you just stated are related to his Tama endorsement

  • @deftones720 No he was endorsed to them back then. way before that actually.

  • @ShittyMcPoopyBalls Really? Did'nt know that. But I do know that many drummers use different gear in studio. Lars Ulrich (a 20-something year Zildjian endorser) uses Sabian cymbals in studio, and theres plunty more examples I could give.

  • @deftones720 I know, lars also uses gretsch kick drums when recording. I know A LOT of drummers that do stuff like this and I totally hate it, they're supposed to endorse companies because they like the way they sound, how are we supposed to trust their opinion when they're selling the products to us when they don't even like using them.

  • @ShittyMcPoopyBalls If they trust the products enough to endorse and use them LIVE, i could care less what they do in studio. Im guessing youve never recorded. Certain sounds are better for studio settings, and certain sounds are better live. I trust Brann's opinion just fine.

  • @SIZZLEBIZZLE1982 That is actually Mastodons Crystal Skull.

It sounds kinda similar to 13 steps though lol

  • @Shootark Thanks for clearing that up dude.

  • Ha, I used to be a big King Diamond fan in school, and I was dreaming of getting Meinl Rakers or Paiste Rudes back then

  • 0:40

  • Comment removed

  • Dailor could inspire anybody because his kit is not as complicated & not as UNNECESSARY as most other top drummers yet he played awesomely. Dailor wins :D

  • BUM BUM BUM NANANNA YOU KNOW

  • his fills arent what amazes, me....its the stuff he plays during the verses

  • Lol...this isn't a drum solo...its from Capillarian Crest from the solo progression onward. Sounds like a solo though

  • 0:13 Vinnie Paul!! 13! 13! Steps!

  • CAPILLAREAN CREST!!!! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

  • EARGASM!!!!

  • The drum is a Pearl?

  • @matteomancinelli he uses whatever sounds best in the studio. He is using Zildjians and Remos on the next album

  • holy shit. is it possible to get that mask?

  • nice king diamond shirt

  • I believe! Not in god, i believe that he is the best drummer, in the whole universe.

  • Nice shirt Brann, you glorious man.

  • what is the song he starts playin at 0:41???

  • @nini073210 Capillarian Crest

  • @nini073210 Capillarian Crest

  • that was me the whole time and no one knew it! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • His drumming has always sounded so tight and together it's amazing

I'd damn near kill a guy to have him teach me how to play

  • He's good

  • Aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh shit... why can't I have a drumkit ? :(

  • esto no es slipknot

  • by any chance, anyone knows what his setup is?

  • Nice mask.

  • Has to be one of the best newer drummers in metal and in music. Also got to love the fact he is wearing a King Diamond shirt...Them kicks ass btw..He must be influinced by Micky Dee

  • I don't like Mastodon, or any metal really, but this guy is great!

  • He waz playing ~Capillarian Crest ~ :)

  • i like the angle that his ride's at, his unique.

  • Brain owns the snare :_)

  • I just noticed that he plays pearl drums

  • Had no idea Mastodon's drummer is this good. Damn, the dude can play.

  • @CherubicGuardian Actually, he studied jazz drums. Also, the way he plays (fast, and with lots of snare fills) was influenced by his youth: he didn't know any bassists, so he jammed with guitarists a lot.

  • @CherubicGuardian Wow, listen to every Mastodon song ever made right this minute young man.

  • Bum Bum Bum... Da Na Na... you know!!

  • He kinda looks like hutch

  • KING DIAMOND!!!!!!!

  • holy shit... thats who it was? woahhh

  • No sex in the playings, open up! Is too busiest. Less noise is mature noise.

  • прикольно

  • "Thanks. I like to play."

  • @IAteMyCopilot Wow...You're...Amazing.

  • @IAteMyCopilot Party on Garth!!!

  • first song reminded me of 13 steps to nowhere

  • I'm so glad he is able to joke around, that let's you know he really enjoys his job.

  • hey I'm playing drums too!!!!!!

  • had a beer with Brann on friday in seattle after the BLACKDIAMONDSKYE met em at a bar hes a fucking cool guy

  • add some raisins and you have raisin brann.....

    oh king diamond ftw!

  • @fatherovterror666 nah, it's pronounced brawn.

  • is it a robot? no, it's superbrann!

  • THIS IS SO COOL!! Many thanks dude!

You're really good at that drummy drumming.

  • 1:16 - 1:35

    HOOOOOOOOOOOLY SHIT

  • he is so awesome because he proves that you don't need a ton of cymbals and toms to be a good drummer

  • @BillyMaysFTW yeah man thats right

  • oh my god the only wear mark on his snare is right in the middle

  • That was me the whole time! no one knew it.

  • This would be the one guy I could see replacing Portnoy in Dream Theater.

  • @thedreamforce no one would want brann to be in dream theatre

  • @FatalNemesis0 Either him or Gavin Harrison from PT.

  • @thedreamforce except that he said he thinks dream theater's music sucks, hehe.

  • 0:29

    LOL! *bambambam* "tenenee... y'know"

  • Do a Barrell Roll!

  • nice style im going to listen to mastodon xd

  • Capillarian. Gone away.

  • 1:13-1:30 dubstep beat ftw

  • that was crystals skulls

  • Fuck yeah, King Diamond!

  • love his style, his fills sound like somebody throwing a kit down a flight of stairs a la keith moon

  • how come there are no drum videos without idiots commenting about neil peart??

  • @superchimp99 cus neil peart is god

  • @superchimp99 Because he's Neil Peart...?

  • @superchimp99 fuckin! word...

  • @superchimp99 cause niel peart is fucking amazing like this guy

  • @adalstan neil peart is overrated but hes still good, you cant compare him to brann at all

  • @FatalNemesis0 and no neil is NOT over rated he is the best and everyone should know that lol. but tahts the point, everyone should so people shouldnt have to go around spewing stuff like neil pert is better when thats jsut a stupid thing to say cause it doesnt matter. briann is a PHENOMINAL drummer probably the best of the 21'st century next to mike portnoy

  • @TheGerthax i know where your coming from, he is the best in his genre. you cant go around saying one person is THE best overall drummer but you can have an opinion on it.

  • @FatalNemesis0 well thats why i can though :P cause drummers like neil peart and brann dailor are multi genre drummers. the reason why brann gets the respect he does is cause he plays genres like gospel in some of his songs. like megaladon, that song sounds like somthing thomas pridgen would play. and everyone has seen neil play all genres lol. but in all seriousness when you look at influence, skill, and overall music theory, neil is number one.

  • @FatalNemesis0 brann is probably the second greatest drummer of the twenty first century (next to mike portnoy of course) and he should be givin the praise he deserves, people that just walk around shouting out "oh neil peart is better" are just idiots cause even though he his, that doesnt take away from the serious talent that brann has. dailor is my hero :P

  • @TheGerthax in my opinion mike portnoy isnt better than brann. but like i said, thats my opinion

  • @FatalNemesis0 Glad we feel the same way. Niel peart god of rush is the most three dimentional drummer I know of. Its all apples and oranges man they both taste great haha.

  • @superchimp99 Because drummers like Brann shut them all the fuck up and got them to move on haha

  • @superchimp99

neil pert is the godfather of bigtime drummers. he was double bassing and destroying 30piece sets 20years before i was born

  • @ikejones1 Dave lombardo is the godfather of double bass though

  • @superchimp99 Cause it takes

  • @superchimp99 Umm how come you're the idiot that asked that question?

  • Sounds alot like jazz , only a couple of times more aggressive.

  • @TheCyprusX yeah but just a bit. you know, in jazz there's a lot of pauses, and dynamics, and metal drummers tend to always play loud (i'm not saying they're not good, just different)

  • it just sounded sporadic to me,loud and obnoxious,no tonal qualities,no dynamics, just straight forward hammering, things that pass for good amazes me.

  • @semiLivedj Then you have no idea what you're talking about do you? Brann's rolls are godly. You're missing all the little accents he throws in, as well as the odd time signatures that he's constantly keeping up with. Also take into account the amount of disconnection between his limbs and his mind that he is demonstrating. You are not very familiar with the concept of drumming are you?

  • @grahamzandah Im more familiar with drumming than you would think,And i know exactly what im talking about, tha accents are nothing new and he doesnt accent enough to even matter, and what you call time signatures is pure crap,Someone is blowing smoke up your ass and your buying it.Just like "disconnection between mind and limb" Its pure bullshit! He isnt doing nothing that has already been done before, but with alot less grace!

  • @semiLivedj All right then, you play one of his song if your so awesome haha. Oh yes, odd time signatures. Listen to capillarian crest. It switches between 4/4, 3/4, 6/8, 5/8, and 21/16. So yeah I would call those pretty odd as far as time signatures go. Brann has been at the forefront of the progressive drumming seen for almost a decade, the fact that you say he's not talented tells me you're not listening to the music at all.

  • @grahamzandah never said he wasnt talented, just dont think that the stuff he playes is all that great,Definitely not good enough to be worshiped. He's average at best, and i think the kind of music he plays is keeping him from being better than average,Its just my opinion,no need to argue, just agree to disagree.Peace

  • @semiLivedj Ok fair enough haha. But keep in mind this type of music is how he developed his style. He also plays other types of music as well. Check out his jam with Danny Carey of TOOL.

  • @semiLivedj Well he says in an interview that him and his friends played and no one told him he was supposed to play along with the bass over the guitar. So he learned to play with guitar. And thats why his style is so sporadic. I agree with you that his accents aren't very accentuated but consider the fact that he's playing so fast it makes it hard to really do great accents. also look at Brann Dailor and Danny Carey. Great video and it shows you this is how he likes playing. not his only style

  • @Lintinanims When i learned to play,I played with guitar only for the first 4 years of my learning, and did pretty much the same thing, but when i started playing with a bass player,I found that it opened up alot of things, and played even more accents and rolls than i ever could with just a guitar player,a bass moves around alot more than a guitar does.so in my opinion, playing with a guitar only held me back.but became useful later on when you have monitor problems.

  • @semiLivedj Out of context all drumming is loud and obnoxious, check out the actual music, the drumming fits very, very well. Also, Brann's drumming is totally progressive (as grahamzandah talked about) for the metal genre so i don't get why you call it straight forward. As for the "hammering", this is a heavy and fast tempo song, so it wouldn't make sense for him to play gentle brush strokes and ghost notes for the sake of dynamics. He's playing what suits the song, and he's kicking ass.

  • Best drummer ever!!! Well, with Danny Carey, Gavin Herrison, Neil, and Mike :D

  • GOD he's so fucking amazing.

  • wat song is that from 0:35 to 0"40? someone help?

  • 0:24 Raining Blood!!!

  • King Diamond T shirt ftw!!!! Mastodon kick ass!!

  • Tricked me into thinking this was their version of bang a gong guess no one can even attempt T. Rex's coolness

  • yea neil pert is the best ib the world lol

  • I officially hate 23 people and all the next ones that will dislike this

  • Wonder how high he is?

  • this guy might be better than neil peart

  • @blackbolt66a LOL I dont think so...I mean i could out do this guy....easy lol...
