  • This is brilliant, considering it was all filmed and broadcast live!

  • There is simply no voice like that of the great Julie Andrews's. Totally breathtaking! And she carries herself as regally as her voice.

  • @lizze1011 coolio!

  • It's in the works of coming back to Broadway and Lea Michele has been rumored to play Cinderella!

  • julie andrews is pretty then and now. i admire her so much! se is so young here but still an amazing voice. haa i love when that man is singing all the names hah love julie andrews. its my user name for goodness sake!!

  • that stepmother is a bitch

  • I barely recognized Julie Andrews until i heard the voice - just like in sound of music her voice is lovely

  • holy cow! one of the sisters is Alice Ghostly

  • October 1st is my sisters birthday!:)

  • Beyond being the original, this is a far wittier and more romantic version of the musical. In large measure this is due to Hammerstein's superior script. It's great to see it in circulation.

  • i didn't realize Julie Andrews was this old! my oh my, she's still amazing.

  • @frugalfruit yeah october 1 i think is her birthday and she will be 76

  • This is a good Cinderella Movie, I first saw this on PBS its great

  • Julie Anderws was perfect for the role!

  • julie andrrews could still play this role!

  • julie andrews es bellisima

  • I wish I could see my fair lady with her :(

  • yer we already know that the prince is haing a ball you only need to sy it once

  • I love this! But, can somebody tell me the name of the prince? Christopher Rupert and that's the only thing I understand.

  • @missbelina

Christopher Rupert Windermere Vladamir Col Alexexander Francois Reginald Lancelot Herman

  • Not nearly as good as the 1965 version with Lesley Ann Warren. I'm not surprised that Rodgers and Hammerstein wanted to try again.

  • @PCCphoenix Julie Andrews' version was a live play not an edited movie like the 1965 version. And Julie andrews sings this waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better that lesley-ann Warren.

  • "uh-huh"

    haha :)

  • they just dont make like they used to

  • I read there was a color version of this originally...sad that it's lost :(

  • They aired this again on TV a few years ago for its anniversary or something and i remember i really wanted to see it since I was/am a huge Julie Andrews fan and knew it was one of her first filmed appearances. I missed it but my parents ended up surprising me with the DVD for my birthday. One of the best and sweetest presents ever. :)

  • fantastic. i saw the lesley ann warren version when it came out in the 1960's. i had no idea there was this version

  • omg i have the dvd

  • Wow, Julie Andrews is beautiful here!

  • please please upload the full movie cinderella the one with leslie warren and please inform me when u do,looking for the full movie and the one with her in it

  • i love julie andrews, but she is just wrong for this role

  • @brabon1 that's an interesting opinion. why do you think she's wrong? They wrote the part especially for her. no hate, just curious to know why you think what you think. ;)

  • @buddyboy80 she just seems too worldly and too assured of herself...maybe it was how she was directed...it just doesnt seem that her version of cinderella could be pushed around by the sisters and mother...or that she needs a fairy godmother

  • @brabon1 I get that. She comes of so sophisticated for an uneducated servant girl.

  • @buddyboy80 exactly....has nothing to do with her beauty or voice...but come on...she was directed differently in sound of music...there, you can see her being a nanny...and amazingly, she looks older here then she did in som...probably because of the black and white

ever wonder why she was not cast as eliza doolittle for the movie of my fair lady?

  • @brabon1 Actually, because she didn't have any film experience.

  • @brabon1 Funny that Rodgers & Hammerstein wrote especially for her then that all I can say I think she was perfect in this role and of course it lead to her being cast in The Sound of Music another classic R&H musical

  • Wow those windows are pretty adamant about staying open. Time for the duct tape - not only for the windows but for the mouths of her bratty sisters and step mother

  • Julie Andrews is so enchanting!!!

  • Wasn't the step-sister Joy in Julies t.v. show The Julie Andrews Hour??? Ohh I adore Julie!! If only I could meet her! =)

  • Julie Andrews looks like Wendy from Peter Pan

  • @maleficentdiva yea i thought that to lol

  • actually it was filmed in black and white to begin with they just had color stills of the show

  • @thevin69, No, it was actually filmed and aired in color to begin with. The only surviving copies are black and white kinescopes.

  • Honesty funny. Why remakes just can't compare to true comedic talent :D

  • Uh HuH, Poor cinderella having to see those faces everyday hahah. . . but if i was one of the sisters me and her would have been bestfriends : D. . .i CaNT Believe shes only 20 Here. .JulIe andres 4ever!

  • Hmm. Not the best version in the world. I much prefer the one starring Lesley Ann Warren as Cinderella. Not that I don't absolutely LOVE Julie Andrews.

  • @SummerSunshine1988 This is the original version written especially for Julie Andrews by Rodgers & Hammerstein

  • @steph42uk : Didn't know that. Thanks for the info.

  • @SummerSunshine1988 No problem your welcome

  • The little girl in the beginning looks like Kym Karath (Gretl in "The Sound of Music"). So adorable!

  • @KeybladeKH

I thought the exact same thing! so cute :)

  • Thank you so much for posting this! I am listening to Ms. Andrews' memoir at the moment and she's been talking about this production and it is so nice to be able to see it again now, knowing more about the actors and the behind-the-scenes stuff. Her memoir, Home, is wonderful, by the way.

  • Julie Andrews is SO young in this!

  • dude!!! i have the soundtack to this! awesome thank you who ever put this up.

  • Brilliant Rodgers & Hammerstein wrote this for Julie Andrews in 1957.

  • The best Cinderella is Julie Andrews!

  • i hated Brandy as cinderella. The best is Leslie Ann Warren. Beautiful and sweet looking. Perfect as a young beautiful shy Cinderella

  • Very wierd...that kid CAN'T be Mark Lester! He was born in 1958! I can't remember if this was broadcast in '57 or '58 but Lester would have been a baby or not born at all! But that kid is a dead ringer!

  • @Autostade67 This was broadcast on March 31, 1957, one day after my birthday, but I won't say which one, LOLOLOLOL.

  • I wonder why the people follow Cinderella around when she is in the town carrying the packages.

  • It is a shame CBS did not have a way to preserve this color broadcast in color. Some still photos exist, but thank heavens they had the presence of mind to at least preserve a Black and White kinescope.

  • @soulierinvestments Yes how I wish they could have preserved this in colour, in fact three kinescopes survive of this production, the rehearsal ones differ slightly in sequence I am told.

  • Hey that little boy in the beginning is Mark Lester from the movie Oliver! he wasn't credit though.

  • how many versions of this movie do they have???

  • holy crap! julie andrews is YOUNG in this movie!

  • @Hittmeg Yup. She was born in 1935 so she would have been 22 here. :)

  • @Hittmeg she was only 22! :0

  • @Hittmeg 21 to be exact!! o.O

  • @Hittmeg Lol!

  • Herman? Herman!

  • i played in the pit for this musical and I remember the music :) brings back high school memories

  • i love this so much. Our school's doing this and im the herald (not the most exciting part but i like it :P)

  • that IS exciting! Congratulations! :) Brake a leg!

  • Have you seen what the herald does in the Brandy version? Now that is exciting!

  • wow I'm so glad I stumbled upon this version - Julie Andrews is wonderful! She has such a charm about her - no matter what age =)

  • cool. lea salong did a version of cinderella too.on stage.. and i watched it :D

  • Alice Ghostley as one of the stepsisters! Holy cow!!! LOL!

  • Kaye Ballard (Stepsister Portia) was Liza Minnelli's godmother - Liza pays tribute to Kaye in her latest show!!!

Alice Ghostley (Stepsister Joy) played Esmeralda in "Bewitched"!!!

  • I'm sorry to say this, but you're wrong there. Liza's godmother is Kay Thompson, vocal arranger for MGM, author of the Eloise books, singer and actress.

  • YES!!!

    I had their surnames mixed!!!

    SORRY!!!

  • No worries. :o)

  • Thank you for uploading this!!

  • awesome thanks for uploading!
